Tunnel to Germany-Quickest route

Liking this thread not transferred our tunnel ticket date yet but our van only has a small fuel tank not done a long enough run to see how far we would get on a full tank. How does getting out the van to fuel up affect Quarantine if I wear gloves and a mask and use CC to pay?
Border control told me that if I got out of the vehicle I would have to quarantine.
It’s not far across Belgium so fuel up in Germany and it’s a hell of a lot cheaper.
We paid a € a litre in a few places.

was thinking more of getting to Germany but there is no quarantine I think for Germany, decisions decisions, not much chance of getting the sun there though.
It was unbearably hot a fortnight ago. I was talking to a vineyard owner on the Mosel and he told me they hadn’t had rain for 3 months.
That did change when we were there but only for one night. I’m sure the weather will still be good.

Not due to get tunnel till late September back early November so would possibly need snow tyres too.
Might just bite the bullet and stay in the UK will be first winter we haven't had some time abroad since we got our first van.

I have been informed that UK Border Force are checking the amount of fuel in the tank on arrival to the UK to see if you have 'topped up' in France - hence required to quarantine for 14 days on return. So.. arrive at Le Shuttle on vapours.
Cant afford French fuel anyway !

You are (or were about 10 days ago) allowed to fill up in a naughty country as long as you didnt go into the kiosk to pay (use the prepay machine) and this was from the .gov website so either the rules have changed or your information is incorrect or the Border Force are having a giggle.

its all a bit of a farce really

im sure so many people are telling porkies just to dodge the rules

or not fully up to date

complete joke

That is how the government advice reads but the guard told us if we had have stopped then we would need to quarantine.
It’s a bloody minefield but there is absolutely no need to fill up in France.

It wouldnt be the first time the people on the ground arent entirely sure what the regulations are.

But absolutely right, why bother filling up in Belgium or France and taking a small risk that you got it wrong on HMG advice.

I ll be filling up in Germany and wont be stopping (even though i firmly believe I can fill up with fuel under those conditions) because I might save £1.00 on a tank full of diesel in France. I wouldnt save any money in Belgium but it might cost me more.
But if i were to fill up with LPG in Belgium I might save £14 on that compared to UK. But its still not worth it so I ll fill that up in Germany as well.
I ll fill up with Adblue on the way out somewhere and I think Belgium was good for that pricewise (think we paid 40 cents last time) but that is on the way out on a (hopefully) 4 week holiday so it worries me not

We are just back from two weeks in Germany via non stop drives through France and Belgium. The Brussels ring road was flowing with no queuing at 8:30 am yesterday. If you are looking for a nice Aire in NE Germany, try Zülpich . Its 11 euros including electricity, next to a lake you can swim in and a moderate size town.

When Macron puts in the reciprocal quarantine measures for the UK, will a nonstop transit through France be allowed without a 14 day quarantine? Or will just arriving in France mean a 14 day quarantine?

That's the big question!

Wow, I carry 40lts spare in disposable containers, they might be surprised to find that others do too! 🙃

What will they do.. imprison all UK motorhome a in massive holding camp before allowing onward travel?
I doubt that, but they do indicate that if people arriving can't say where they'll be isolating or quarantining then they will provide accommodation, for which the traveller will pay.
It may depend on the level of trust the French authorities have that those who sayvthey are transiting are actually doing so.

I don't see how they would do that with eurotunnel.

I filled up in Germany, drove nonstop to eurotunnel and still had over half a tank left. But how would they know that?

The last French 'quarantine' was voluntary and those 'in transit' to other countries were exempt.

3. Travellers entering France from the UK
From Monday 25 May 2020, the French Government is putting in place a voluntary 14-day quarantine measure for travellers arriving from certain countries.

For travellers arriving from European countries whose authorities have decided, in an uncoordinated fashion, to apply 14-day quarantine measures to travellers entering their territory from European countries, a voluntary 14-day quarantine period will be reciprocally requested.

The following people will be exempt from voluntary quarantine, except if they show symptoms:

-
people in transit to another country;

We came back from Germany on Wednesday morning (Aachen Tuesday night - left at 04:00 and was on 09:50 tunnel train). BF didn't check fuel but did say we had to isolate for 14 days anyway as they had been told by FCO to say this. Apparently people fibbing about where they had travelled from. We ignored this as have proof (Polarsteps) of where we had been.

We are on the Stellplatz in Aachen, €17 for the night, filled up 400 metres away, not cheapest for Germany but was €1/099 per litre (Aral) and will drive from here without a stop until we get to the tunnel and as the tunnel require you not to get out we will be OK, we assume from the UK Govt. information

just one back from Germany through the tunnel. We stopped at Aachen for a rest and top up fuel which is cheaper than most other countries, Belgium and France in particular. We were asked by the immigration where we stayed the last night and where we bought our last lot of fuel, Aachen in both casese Left at 2am from the Stellplatz, very nice but a bit expensive. Thank you and go on your way says the man so we here we are back home, no self isolation as per if used a ferry as the tunnel had no open toilets on the train and you were clearly Told to stay in your vehicle until you were clear of the tunnel in the UK. The two idiots fore and aft of us who got out briefly so wondered what it was about the notices they did not follow despite them both on UK plates.

Just at Tunnel. Planned to start a thread of journey but as ever all conspired against me today ( euros to collect ordeal -last min shopping traffic and queue issue.. got off later than hoped .) But arrived here 3 1/2 hours early for Booked 8.20 crossover gutted to be told we needed to pay £130 to get on 17.30 crossing ( had looked yesterday £30 max difference on the website 😱)So reverted your base line of Can’t pay Won’t pay From poll tax days . Now eating m and S food for tea in moho park Tesco shop aborted due to traffic in town this am. Crossing scheduled With No extra charge for 19.20 but suspicious there ate places on the earlier ones so hoping to squeeze on ASAP. No idea where we are going after Aachen if we get that far tonight. I drove here so I am helping by navigating the Forren Roads. No sense of direction me so this may be a giggle . Or late night disaster . Got fuel from the Tesco just past the tunnel turn off so don’t need to stop before Germany . Thank you guys for the encouragement .... will update but too difficult I think to post pics from phone for me . Computer at home with cats xx

If you head to the Stellplatz in Aachen, €17 euros including electricity and you can indulge in camping activities, eg sit outside and eat, etc. there is an "Aral" fuel station 400 metres away, we did Aachen to Bicester on one full tank yesterday. Suggestions, try Camping Sonneneck near to Boppard just south of Kobelz you can indulge in watching the Rhine shipping traffic which is amazingly quiet, the noisy ones seems to have been retired. Try Campingplatz Wiesensee in Hemsbach which has a very good lake for swimming and for kids the largest play area we have ever seen, roughly 15 acres in size. Hemsbach is north of Heidelberg on the "Bergstrasse" which has a lot of interesting towns between Heidelberg and Darmstadt.

Agree, a total farce. My mate flew back to Jersey from France. They do a 5 day quarantine in Jersey. Border control stopped him to tell him to quarantine. He told them he would have to get the bus home. stop off and get 5 days of food. Then get back on bus to home. Border guy just looked at him....they know its a farce themselves.
How would anyone know if you stopped or not,,Its a farce,,BUSBY.

Thank you Ian. Just out of tunnel may stop in Belgium as both tired but Aachen tomorrow for a lazy day . No probs so far apart from Sarah’s driving ( rumble strips what rumble strips?)
Net disconnected last night so this didn’t post . Stopped at Aalter- free aire -very very nice, (only 2 places but we were the 4 th van on the side where the mohos go . Free net so can post. Sarah has fixed the mfi - it was not connecting , so can update . Sara’s IT skills superior to mine but then everyone’s are. Pics may be possible ...
