True cost of using A/C while driving

280 mile real range is very impressive. I can see why the e-Niro has a long waiting list. Climate control reducing it by about 5.7% is not much in this hot weather. Does your handbook tell you what happens to the range in winter, when you need to heat the cabin and opening the windows only freezes you faster?
This is a bit of a put off with EVs the range before charging. Even at 270 miles without your headlights on, you need to start planning a pit stop at around 200 miles. What is the good of that, it would drive me nuts.

3.0D Iveco N&B 2007 6tonne Flair.

Removing the air-con sent the motorway mpg (on cruise) from 18.8 to just over 20.

5% ISH.

Which is about right.
It's the extra energy used by the engine to drive the air con compressor.
Not a lot of use though on a summers day in July with an air temeprature of 53ºc around Zaragoza.
You'd buy it back in seconds.

The cab of my van must be as damp as anything inside when I consider how much water I was getting overnight at the end of last year in the UK.

Whilst accepting that not perfect for everyone, withe the accuracy of the range predictor, you dont need to plan a pit stop with 25% of your range left
Current ( no pun) shortcomings of EVs are (relatively)temporary in terms of the tech

It really suits me and my work/life balance and costs me NOWT as a company car

Its an individual thing

Serious Question?, Can you "toad" one?.

TBH, not got a clue and never asked
Additionally, with all the tech and kit in the front bumper, including the charge point, I wouldnt disturb it with YOUR barge pole, never mind mine 😂

Engine never reaches temperature north of Watford.
Spongy
Still warm but we have just had a shower with some thunder which has made a nice change from perpetual sunshine. Strange how within such a small land mass as the uk we have such different weather patterns from side to side and top to bottom. Here is the culprit. Where would we be without the Gulf Stream.

Never gave it a thought but then again I have much more important things going on in my head ie how long will that paint take to dry, how fast is a snail, how heavy is a rain drop, and other important things 🤣🤣🤣
A little bit off subject
My favourite is counting the blades of grass in a golf course.

And the extra drag of opening windows or a sun roof when you have no air con to try to cool the car, certainly impacts on fuel consumption, except when melting in a traffic jam!
