It's a bit more than that unless you are French you need a compelling reason to travel and that does not include Tourism from Saturday.

French gov spox confirming new UK/France travel restrictions, from Saturday:
-pre-departure test taken within 24 hours
-Reasons for visiting limited to essential for French nationals/residents, i.e. not tourism.
-7-day isolation, lifted after 48 hours with -ve test on arrival

Bu**er
Not surprised though
Until at least more is known about the new variant it seems sensible
It may transpire things are less of an issue than last winter but time will tell
As I said in previous post I've not started packing :(

So happy we are already here, won’t complain if we are not allowed back.
Enjoy, very jealous bit scunnered meant to be heading over in the New Year to honest wasn't that surprised half expected it. Oh well a tour of plague Island it will have to be.

Yes thanks but we take the tunnel because we have the dog and also cant get away till the new year. Never know it might chage again. Just need to make the most of it these days no point throwing toys out the pram,we will get away somewhere just fancied a bit of sun :xThumb:

At this time, I don’t consider it socially acceptable for people to be moving about or mixing unnecessarily, or behaving in a way that might be interpreted as doing so. Others may not understand that you intend to remain isolated (you do, don’t you?) and will assume that you’re off to party, and may think that “if they are, then so will I”…

It’s easy for me to suggest that unnecessary travel or mixing should not take place because, being the cautious type, I’d rather stay at home than risk it and, after two year’s practice, I’ve become accustomed to it.
Just reading your post, I'm wondering are you, (everyone else) being scared into thinking there is a situation that doesn't exist, I referring to the Omnicron variant in this, it would appear that as a virus mutates Omnicron has mutated down so is actually more virulent but has milder symtoms thus less likely to be as severe.
Resulting in less people being hospitalised in effect making the patient no more worse off than a case of Influenza.

But if the multiplication go up then the percentage of hospitalisations also increase. We had around 50K a day positive and 800 a day entering hospital. Now make that 200K a day positive, will that mean we have 3200 a day going to hospital. I think thats what the medics are basing their arguments on. What is not known at this stage and until we get 50K a day of Omicron and then three weeks later or so the hospital numbers. That will not happen until into January. So its towards the end of January and beyond wherever you are in Europe if the figures go bad you may see additional movement restrictions ( Form of lockdowns) that is why at this stage we are not setting of again to Spain as being on site not allowed of your pitch does not hold appeal to us.

Thanks could you post the peer reviewed evidence for that.

Looks like the Spanish Government are going to make an Announcement @ 17.00 according to posts on another forum ?

I would like to think Omnicron is less severe and along with boosters it's not a big problem.
This is wishful thinking/ clutching at straws on my part and I would think it is too early for the evidence to prove of disprove the idea or peer review it
I'm still hoping to get to the Alps this winter but it's a first world problem
Lots of people with much much bigger things to worry about
If I was living in France and not involved with the tourist industry I would have been asking what the politicians were doing letting all those virus ridden Brits into the country

I think pretty much the same. If I lived in France with their measures to reduce spread and saw the cases doing what they are here and no new measures I would want the action they're taking. Were booked to ski in Austria early January I'll be pleasantly surprised if it goes ahead. If Omicron turns out to be a mild illness it will be great although as it seems to partially evade immunity by previous vaccination and previous infection it seems likely to me that Omicron infection may not provide much immunity against other variants.

I'm not scared, but I do not know what is going to happen and I don't believe any one else does either. I have restrained my activities because I think it the right thing to do, in the hope that a solution will be found in the meantime.
I agree that the current mutation may not have as severe consequences as the earlier ones, but that is yet to be seen, and who's to say that a more potent variant may not follow? What we do seem to know is that it is transmitted by people, so allowing people to move about freely will only help transmission.

Apparently the average reading age in the U.K. is of a 9 year old. Given that as a sad ‘fact’ then the Government is probably right !
I did a double take at this but found this web page (reading age) . They explain how to 'dumb down' your writing so everyone can understand what you say. Don't sez much abou ow edcashun sistum do it?

Language is a 'living thing' and is constantly changing; so much so that it can be difficult to keep up.
There seems to be a general lack of discipline, to understand or follow any rules, but maybe there will be a correction one day? Many things, especially in fashion, tend to wax and wane in cycles.
What's mundane today could become the focus of fascination tomorrow.

Communication is important but the means seems to be drifting from the written word to pictures.
And pictures can be interpreted in many ways...
Are we doomed?

The French Gov website is quite clear, In a nutshell, travellers from the UK are only going to be allowed entry into France unless they are French or hauliers ? The French say this is to slow down the spread of infections and give them more time to get their booster jabs out.

We too have cancelled our planned trip to Spain but hopeful the picture will change again in our favour before the end of January.

Perhaps we should be sending our booster jabs to France?
