Hi all, I have bought a new to me motorhome but its a four hour drive away. I have all the invoices etc from the dealer to prove my journey is legit.
With all the restrictions on travel due to the chinese flu, can anybody tell me if I can legally travel to collect it, as its a business transaction.
Thanks

Yes it is legit classed as essential same as having Sky installed. Tv specially these days is vital for information so buying a tv is allowed.
A TV is essential for information? I don't know how I've managed for years without one. A wireless and the internet are sufficient source of information

Bunch of Gesticulators.
This odd thread has just made me realise that when I take my Peugeot Boxer pvc out ( used as private car) I’ve seen people gesticulating of late. I thought something was wrong with the van but its obv people in this seaside resort where I live who think we are mohome tourists visiting here....I can’t imagine being that wound up about anything to shout at traffic!

30mins away? Get the dealer to drop it to you if you need it that soon? Do you really need it?
Handover could be tricky, (I wouldn’t want to be in a confined space with anyone Who wasn’t in my ‘bubble’.) They could send you a virtual handover to view once you’ve sanitised the van . At the very least I’d have a full conversation with the dealership about protocol.
How will you get there? If someone in your bubble drops you off they shouldn’t be staying with you unless you are comfortable , and the dealer is comfortable with the added risk. ( they wont be if they are a good dealer)
It definitely wouldn’t be the first time a new motorhome has suffered a breakdown/ accident /petrol run out / tyre flatten straight out of the dealership, then you’ll potentially put others at risk , also yourself.
TBH why not let the dealer keep the vehicle secure until its safe (r)

I'd say as you're asking, you know the answer is no.

If you wait until 1st April you won't waste a month's road tax.

If you get it on 29th March instead of 1st April onwards you'll pay a whole month's road tax for 3 days ... not sure which would be the 'biggest' fool date! :giggle:

motorhome. I can drive to an electrical shop to collect a new TV. It's permitted.
No it isn't. Gov.uk states food shopping and Medical apart from work are the only legal essential journeys.

You can do it. And I've seen people doing it.

I watch them pull up, the staff come running out carrying the TV and put it in the boot of the car. They even have special car park bays for click and collect for their customers to park in. Watch it regularly when I do my Grandparents food shopping.

If it is or isn't in the rules is irrelevant if it is happening. They are only open because the government allows it. Even if we both think it isn't essential.

They delivered it to my house. Saved an anxious journey. Many thanks Camper UK.
