Travel to Europe, should we shouldn't we

Check Spanish restrictions right up to departure day...the Government has not relaxed as much as the UK has..
I know we have to do it if we visit Spain, (I wish GB was as thorough), but the Spanish Health Declaration form must have been designed by members of the Spanish Inquisition, or IT persons who had no idea what they were doing.

Managed to complete it after two hours of trying and finding the site dropping out.

Still, Spain will have our Euros from Thursday onwards.

Please order the sun!

If it is just the price of fuel we are going
If its fuel shortages as long as I can be full before ferry I can potter about the Netherlands and the top west corner of Germany and still make it home.
If I cant get fuel at home, floods or tempest we are probably stuffed

We are in France now, crossed yesterday, heading for Spain or Portugal don't do planning goes against the grain in a Motorhome just a rough idea of things we would like to see.
I don't get this pre booking lark seems a waste of time when you have a motorhomme that can go anywhere.

Get yourself off!
I can’t wait to go and if diesel doubles, I’m still going - I’m bloody determined to.
I’ve had over two years of plans spoilt due to covid so Putin can ram it as far as I’m concerned.
Life’s too short so get on your holidays and enjoy yourself.

In the last two years we've had covid, cancer and family death to deal with. We still manged 9 weeks in France, Spain and Italy on our first MH trip abroad. Only pre booked one night, rest was planned as we went. It's just us, but after all that we've been through, we'd rather travel and deal with the forms, rules and restrictions. Than be marooned in the UK. That's not being wreckless in our opinion, but taking as much out of what we've got left, and enjoying life whilst we can.

Someone on here hit the nail on the head when they said they'd lost 10% of their retirement already.

I sincerely hope everybody enjoys their trips this year and have many more to come.

My other half is just mobile again after too big operations she's only 50 I intend to make this a great trip for her hope all of you crossing the channel this year have a great trip cheers see u there

We was fortunate enough and brave enough to still travel for the last two years, a bit of an eye opener but we was careful, spent a fortune on covid test and self isolating on our UK trip but such is life you do what's necessary. 😁

We will be off Thursday and not return home until October, we have not seen any shortage here in Spain, yes people struggle getting fresh milk but get it at some point it may take two or three supermarkets, people cause shortages panicking, you cant clear the shelves with a panelvan. 🤔😁
But diesel we just top up at half a tank, and not worry just enjoy. 👍

From our experience travelling in the last two years 🤔 the French stayed in France the Aires were busy, the Germans stayed in Germany the mosel was heaving, and the English stayed at home the sites we stopped on were empty. 😜

I say you only come this way once, make the most of it. 😎 Bob.

Go for it don't let anything put you off. We left uk August 2020 drove to Turkey. Left Turkey May 2021 drove back to uk via Bulgaria, Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, Italy Austria, Germany, Luxembourg, Belgium Holland, Left uk September 2021 drove back to Turkey. Don't leave it to late to book the Chunnel, prices seem to be going up.
£385 to travel in August and return 6 weeks later. includes £44 for the dog, which never leaves the MH. at port.

That's why we booked Dfds and saved over €200 on the crossing. 🙄 Bob.

Yeah, dog doesn't like the boat though.
Neither does ours, 😉 but she is not paying 😁 and we get free breakfasts. 😜😎
When we had our a class we watched her as our motorhome was outside at the front, she was seat to seat window to window the whole trip, yet the motorhome next to us their dog went to sleep on the passenger seat. 🙄🤔

To be fair Bob I have just had a look at DFDS and same dates and similar times cost is £324.
Don't feel so bad now thanks ;)
We'll do it in 35 minutes and have breakfast in France 🥐🥐🥐:france:
No we wont we have a tea time crossing. :giggle:🫖

I would definitely go,but whats this pre booking mullarky?
I would just play it by ear and head wherever you feel safe, don’t set anything in stone and just be flexible. Europe is full of aires which you can use,no need to book anywhere!

Just do it
We drove to Greece late last August and back again in November. 3000 miles return trip.
Heading back to Greece just after Easter and planning to return to the U.K. early July-ish.
No campsites were troubled, or will be, at any point in our travels.
French aires and Italian sostas are used throughout, alongside park4night sites.

Just do it . At least you wont be using gas and electric at home, ive been to canaries december, january,February and march,a week each time (by air) and i too thought about others in ukraine losing life and home whilst im laid in the sun and yes it made me feel rather guilty,so to offset that i donated coats nappies baby foods etc,but you are only here once, and if i had a motorhome id never be at home,(have elderley commitments)so take my holidays in short sharp bursts, and like to completely chill and let someone else cook and clean . Who knows whats around the corner? Get going and enjoy ,put some pics on here for others like me to enjoy …cheers pampam

We are doing more or less the same trip starting end of April but adding in Holland to see the bulb flower show. During the planning stage before the break out of the Ukrainian war, we were looking to head to Poland and Hungary. We took that off the list, not because fearing the war but those countries have enough on their plates helping those getting out of Ukraine, they will not want a guy with a camera walking round, so another year for that trip. You must go, you will be able to adapt to any changing circumstances. Yes fuel has gone up. I have worked out the approximate milage that we intend to travel and priced the milage with the fuel at around £1.75 per ltr through the trip. So that is around a 25p increase since prices started going up. So that's the inflation, the price of groceries are the same wherever ever you go. Everywhere needs a injection of spending from the tourist, wherever we go ~I am sure we will be welcome. Only run your tank to half that way if you need to up sticks to get somewhere you normally will have ample fuel to make the trip.
I’m agree fully. One of the countries I didn’t mention was the Czech Republic’s round of world super bikes we have tickets for. If it still goes ahead we will go. Agreed on the fuel. I’ve worked out it’s going to cost me £175 more in fuel over three months not so bad. We are ending the trip on an Island off the coast if Holland Texel and a short drive to the ferry from there. Enjoy your trip

Just do it!
Make sure you have insurances and ehic etc. and just go.
OK, it will cost a few hundred quid more but you can claw this back by using municipal sites for free and eating 'at home' etc.
In the month we have been away, we have covered about 2500 at 24mpg which has come to about £650 just for fuel - double what we were paying a couple of years ago. We have split stops evenly between free and paid and eat 'at home' to save cash for attractions etc.
As an aside, we will save about £600 from utilies and putting the car in sorn.
Stick some cash away for emergency reserve and just go...

With all that's going on ie Covid- The war- Price of fuel- Restrictions on entry to certain countries- Queus at ports and it seems every one with a motor Home is going abroad I'm happy to tour our beautiful country and stay here this year .Thanks all be more room for us staying here this year

We have a trip planned June, July and August. France, Italy, Slovenia, Austria, Germany, Holland and home. With the war, possible fuel shortages etc would you go. We have until the middle of May for balances to be paid on some of the pre booked destinations. From a moral point of view should we go and support the local economies or stay. Before anyone says "stay and support uk campsites and economy" thats not going to be an issue, uk parks will be booked main season twice over. I suppose its a moral dilemma..............
I would - and am. You're not going anywhere near the war zone and I'm not aware of shortages.

I think UK has the most covid!

All we need now is for Europe to remove all the remaining covid restrictions. We travel 1st May to Spain. Can't be doing with landing forms, masks etc. Rumour was it would all end for Easter but so far it's very quiet.
i got a text from Brittany ferries today - sailing to spain on fri. It said tehy are dropping their health form from tommorrow. Cant find it anywhere else but BF probably one of the first to know?

Am heading of on the 18th for 3 months and my planned route takes in to Estonia down through Latvia Lithuania Poland and home however I wont be in Estonia till July so it could be all over by then. If its not looking good I will spend some time in Sweden.
