We have travel insurance through our Nationwide Flex plus account for £13 per month & includes European breakdown cover (which unfortunately we had to use). We paid an extra £380 to cover 78 days away, our ages 70+ and my husband‘s declared pacemaker. Couldn’t find anything cheaper and we think it’s good value. Lasts for a year.

I took out with Lv then they said I did not have the correct policy when flight was cancelled. As it was within the 14 days cancelled policy and used cash to pay for hotel took gamble and went without but only me and was careful when I crossed the road

We use nationwide as well. I think the problem with any insurance is you don't know how good it is until you need it. Nationwide seems very popular and most who need it seem to get good service. There are a few who don't but in general I don't expect insurance to cover absolutely everything just the major costs if you're really unlucky

Staysure is great for current health problems, always has fantastic customer service when I have had to phone to add/ change medical info. They have started sending reminders 6 months into annual policy…. Anything changed? Which I like as it’s easy to forget to let them know

Staysure gave us a 20% discount on a single trip policy taken out on 15th January, by adding the code NY20 at the checkout page.

Its listed as a New Year 20% discount so may have ended by now?

I thought Nationwide have withdrawn the travel insurance part of their offering?
I think it's available with their 'Flexplus' account.

"Alternatively, customers have the option to upgrade to Nationwide’s FlexPlus account, which offers worldwide travel insurance for the whole family – plus other benefits – but costs £13 a month, or £156 a year".

You also get breakdown cover for any vehicle you are travelling in, and a few other benefits.

Same here. Already used the breakdown service and it was excellent. The experience of breaking down wasn't great though 😕

We used the NY20 code on Staysure a couple of days ago, so still appears to be valid.

I pay £126 for an annual multi trip policy, couple aged 67 & 66 with no major health issues and no previous claims - max trip 90days. I’ve been with LV for many years so maybe get some sort of loyalty bonus?

Things to look out for:
  • In France you are required to have repatriation insurance, this is not always standard
  • Check the number of days permissible for each stay abroad, some have limits of say 30 to 40 days per trip
  • Check the total number of days you're allowed to spend away in total over the year, again this can be restrictive
