Any advice here is appreciated.

Looking to buy a motorhome 3.5 T but with something that has an overall train weight north of 6 tonne.

Unfortunately I have the new style cornflake licence.

Think the thread has legs due to the lack of clarity in the licence categories and depending on if you notice the significant difference between categories B & BE.

However how is it reconciled that a +70 (test prior to 1997) losses C1 to drive a vehicle (lets not get into how much) over 3500kg but retains a BE which allows a gross train of 7000KG?
I agree , but that's the law.

I don't think that there is any great lack of clarity in the categories but logicality is another matter.

BTW if B+E was on your licence before 19th Jan 2013 then the licence covers any weight of trailer, obviously subject to the physical capability/train weight of the towing vehicle.

Another anomoly, exploited by vwalan is that if downplating a 5or 6ton gross vehicle to 3.5t the train weight is not reduced thus giving a possibility of 12000k train weight with a 3.5 t vehicle legally with a Cat B+E licence.
