Tourists caught emptying motorhome toilets into Loch Rannoch

I note that the public toilets in our town centre are up for auction after being closed for years ,the council provided an automatic one at the bus station which was one that was timed and the sliding door opened whether you had finished or not .it has now been removed.

I used to have a T4 converted camper with a porti potti and could easily go3/4 day’s before dumping it. Not in the hedge or bushes I will add.
So did I ?

I was just informing buttons after his regular pops at gin palaces etc that it's often small campers etc with no onboard toilets that are leaving rubbish and waste about

I also had a t4 with a full shower and toilet as standard

But many of them dont

Out porta pot lasts two days, I just use five Waitrose bleach tablets which are perfectly ok to dispose down any wc. We tend to only use the PPot for P so non of this uncoothed gin palace behavior of reading the paper in the loo. ;) :)

The writer and director of the 'controversial' film Blue Story. was on Breakfast TV this morning. (Stay with me on this please)

He was asked about the incidents of threats and violence occurring outside cinema's all over the country as a result of his film being shown.

Without pausing a beat, he said, "Where's the evidence?" (paraphrase next.) "We are in a Camera society. If anything had happened anywhere else in the country, the people would have had their phones out and it would be, 'Out There'"

I have already mentioned this on a previous thread. I am in total agreement with this man on this. I will not accept the anecdotal comments made by any authority and would immediately demand to see the evidence (should it exist.) In the absence of such 'evidence the publisher should be challenged to put up or shut up.

If such comments go unchallenged, we will all be herded into camps that are simply not designed for motor homes.

If the official caught them then they should be name and shamed.
I agree, but I would also like to see photographic evidence of the said crime.

A close relative of mine works in the local Odeon
There was trouble there last Saturday which was widely reported in the local press
but with no photos.
In the staff area there are photos of the offenders who are now banned from the cinema.

Are we to say it didn't happen because we have not seen the photos?

Problem if free would then be "gypos" turning up then piles of rubble/hedge cuttings etc, etc,?
That’s the excuse all councils use. You don’t see any “gypsies” at Canterbury aire!
Ok it’s not free, but there are many free aires in France and Spain with no Gypsies camping there.
Of couse, councils could also provide parking for Gypsies. Like they do in many parts of Europe

We had a beautiful spot at the top of a mountain in France this year, but could only stay for 3 days as toilet needed emptying, would never think of just dumping iy even if no one is around, you can always find somewhere to empty it properly if you look. Many more in France then UK, we need more over here.

Always the same in any easily identifiable group of people, you only need a few people to behave irresponsibly and everyone gets tarred with the same brush.

Canterbury P+R used to have barriers beyonfd the MH area and what is now access to the MH overflow area. Since they have been removed I am told there has been no problems.

However the area has personnel all hours it is nominally open, which maybe makes a difference.

There is enough users, both cars and MHs to pay for the staffing, and presumably the bus service, which in daytime is every 8(?) minutes.

It can be done.

Getting back to the thread, someone once said to me, that Travellers caravans do not have toilets. The reference therefore is they use the bushes, possibly next to the clothes lines. Does anyone know for sure or just a rumour?
Is there a difference between a Traveller and a Gypsy. I always understood that Gypsy's came from the Indian sub continent and travelling through Arabia, became nomads and Arabs. A branch or sect went to Romania, and thence the romantic, Italian singing etc of wanderer. Not so much in England, but then onto the folk singing Irish. As in 'The gypsy rover came over the hill' etc.
As a child ( probably about 1955 via the Dublin-Liverpool Ferry). I remember a very large contingent of horse drawn gypsy caravans staying on the common at Runcorn, camp fires, singing - fiddle and banjo. After a few days they had gone, and not a single sign that they had been there.
So from what era, or time does the Irish sect ( many born in England now) originate. Common sense says it must be post war. The Transit towing vans etc. Tarmaccers and shop sign painters. Is there any books on this subject, as knowledge is all, and history very helpful, in avoiding general accusations.
Finally, does Europe view Motorhomers, as a new wave of those unpaying, free loading travelling people. If so, councils have every right to protect their town folk first.
Incidentally, Belgium has by law forbidden any camping anywhere without an advanced booking.

I have been told, by a traveler, that they obviously have toilets in their vans, but never use them, in fact they had a load of bedding in their loo, they used theirs as a storage cupboard! I have no idea if that applied to all of them! And they had a tent with a portaloo in it, set up behind the van,,, they did not use bushes!

A casette emptied into a lake, is it really important? How many parts per billion?

Someone explain the problem....

Nitrates from farmland cause more damage, fishermen leaving fishing lines.....no toilets for animals and birds, do fish not shit?

Too many folk with nothing else to moan about.......

Most of them have modern Caravans & Motorhomes with toilets they just don't use them. A group of them set up camp on a local industrial estate where my mate had premises, his staff did not appreciate shovelling their crap up, they left turds everywhere, on the grass in the road absolutely disgusting.

Apparently in Traveller culture it is unclean to go to the loo in the same place as they cook and eat. Therefore the toilets in their caravans and MHs are never used. Unbelievable.

As an alternative to the My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding kind of TV show, I recommend reading The Outsiders by Eamon Dillon.

So presumably when they have deposite pee and shit all around one site they have to move on to have a BBQ.

We have several camped on the A166 between Stamford Bridge and York - every few days they move a mile or so up and down the road always staying roughly in the same location.

Every time the 'site' is a complete tip, they move, someone (not them) cleans it up and a few days later they return.

What a life!!!

I'm not sure there's such a law in Belgium. I've been motorhome/riding in lots of different places and never pre-booked.

In Glastonbury it's the opposite... The door automatically LOCKS and you can't get out..

I think it ismore to do with stopping drug users though than a vendetta against constipated people.

Was it JJ who wrote many years ago... 'You havn' t pood until you have pood in a carrier bag). ?

With that in mind why don't lorry drivers and wild campers do that and the councils provide 'poo bins for humans' next to the poo bins for dogs?

Trying to think outside the box here. :)

Totally unacceptable and i hope they are going to make an example of these plebs.
No matter what this behaviour is terrible and can only do our hobby harm.
It still amazes me why Scotland created the 500 route but didn't think it would bring HUNDREDS of tourists.
The route is desperate for some infrastructure to accomoadate everyone.
Scotland is reaping the rewards of increased tourism so it's time to put some money into facilities.
Lochinver is in the process of building a Motorhome Service Point next to the leisure centre,it was supposed to be done earlier this year but ran into a problem which has now been solved. It will include overnight parking places, the local name for this is,wait for it “THE CLUDGIE”
