I'd like to try and build a dataset of mechanics who you guys trust to change a cambelt.

If you've had this done recently, it would be great to know the price and location, for example

Smiths Garage, Lincoln. £700 (included new water pump)

Drove down arriving at 7.45 AM, In & Out in 4 hours, sat in reception with coffee, looking at new Carthago's Chic C Lines that I will never afford again as the prices have risen so much.:(

£766 at ECS in Malvern including water pump & of course new coolant.
Had other estimate at £960 , actual job always costs more so I'm telling myself I got off lightly.
Bang on 5 years.

Not done recently., only a quote.
Only had one service done at the garage, but they did exactly what I asked, including ECU update and test drive, and tracker showed it was in workshop for quite a few hours. Van drove much better after (ECU? 1st service?). Who knows, but they did all I asked and paid exactly as quoted.
But as all they do is mohos and are fiat pro, I'm happy

Chelston motorhomes, Wellington, Somerset

2020 160ps Fiat

* Not sure if cambelt quote included tensioners, aux belt, or water pump, sorry

(Parts for service were "fair priced" - as in I could not find them much cheaper online, of course, branded parts etc)

Asked them to do water pump but they inspected and said not necessary.
I had a look at old belt and tensioner which showed no sign of wear.

Told me they had done hundreds, always Ducato vans in there when I pass-by.

It might also be helpful when adding prices if it’s genuine parts used or not.

I’ve just been quoted £1200 for timing belt kit and full service with Fiat parts or £775 non Fiat parts.

I used these for the cam belt in my 2001 Fiat based A class Hymer, £246.

Cam belt and water pump, full service £680, Sept 2022.
I stayed overnight on their ramp/forecourt as once they had closed the bonnet they couldn't reopen it so it became the first job the next morning.
They are all Lithuanians and they work/smoke to their own schedule, no hurry on my part as I had been quoted £1,600 at a local garage about three miles from my home, I made a weeks holiday out of it and still saved money I feel. Although don't get me started on the £160 fine for an 11 minute stay in a carpark. :banghead::banghead:

Used by other funsters too. Gates parts, kit included water pump.

Just about due a cam belt change, what sort of warranty should you expect?
And is there some form of insurance you can take out to cover you for major engine, etc problems ?

A mates experience (PVC) "done 4th November by Amber Autos of Ripley. Their engineer/ mechanic has served many years with Birchwood Trucks Nottingham who are main Fiat commercial dealer so I was confident he knew what he was doing.

They are within 1/2 mile of an exit junction of the A38, easy access M1 junct 27 or 28. "
My experiance so far
£860 fiat pro Northampton or £970 if i want them to connect to ecu for update to V32

local garage yes i can do that, Pick it up after MOT pass beautifull.
How much for Cambelt then , "cant do it fiat wont tell me what parts and tools i need there are 5 possible different engines" How do you translate that? Cant be ar***.
So Booked into Adams Morey Portsmouth C class £806 Belt and all auxillary belts (no water pump) can you update to V32 please? That'll happen automatically (if it needs it) when we plug it in. Standard practice.
Lets see how thursday pans out. only a 250mile round trip. How far would you go?
PS I asked for Lennys price Lenny HB

Mine is an A Class full price was £573 last June, I paid a £100 less than that as I'd had bit of agro with their service receptionist previously ( he is long gone).
Since then they have been taken over and labour rate has gone from £75 + vat to £115 +vat.
So price difference sounds about right for the increased labour rate.
