Thinking of buying an RV?

For those that don't know most? CMC club sites have a length limit on website of 8 or 8.5 metres, even though they usually have a few pitches that can accommodate larger.
So if you want to book you have to lie about length. We do this but then call ahead to check okay and they usually allocate an appropriate pitch. They can't move the default max length on website in case ten long vehicles all turn up at once.

I've no sympathy then. It's the automatic assumption by this guy that he can do as he pleases and tell lies that gets my back up. If I'd been the site manager I'd have told him to bug*er off.
Here endeth the first lesson!

Nice to see the morally outraged still walk among us ;)

This is our 9m B Class on the CCC site on Skye . On arrival the warden pointed out our pitch and when reversing in he was watching and waving his arms about , he came to my window and said “your side pods mustn’t overhang the grass “ he meant the slideouts I believe so I pitched as requested leaving room for toad.
Shortly after some tents pitched up on the grass area opposite, he waited until they had finished then made one of them move the tent a foot further from the other as they were too close.
A real jobsworth I guess but the only site warden I could complain about in the many I have visited.

Having the slimline Carthago does enable me to squeeze into some fairly tight places but, at the end of the day, it's down to personal choice. Small/big each have advantages and disadvantages. My only beef with these behemoths is that if I'd wanted a total eclipse, I'd have gone to some obscure mountain in Peru or somewhere. ;)(Note to self - always park south of RV's)

It’s not the van that’s the issue just the driver’s, seen some crap drivers with small vans, normally have someone outside directing them into a large pitch and they cannot do that without numerous attempts ☹️☹️
Ours is 8.6m and only issue I have had is the height with low trees.
Surly there’s a chainsaw in one of the lockers for just such an occasion :rofl::rofl:

Is this a normal thing for rv owners to do now 🤷‍♂️
I remember when I had a damon that there were only limited sites in the uk that accepted me but I cant remember lying about the length being a 'thing'
We are in a 9.1m RS - I always declare as 8.9m or even 8.5m on CAMC bookings as often 9m seems to be rejected - otherwise I phone.

We used a CMC site last week and were told we would have to park nose in, so our door was not opposite the next unit.
I didn’t comment, intending to reverse in if I wanted, but parking nose in meant we had a view over the hedge into a park rather than looking at lots of other units (that will keep everyone happy then!).

Within 5 minutes we had a knock on the door and the chap on the next pitch asked us if we could move our 6.6 metre motorhome right to the back of our pitch as he liked to sit outside with a view down the site! It turned out he was an ex-CMC warden.

I won't even start mentioning some of the issues we have had with some CMC wardens when we had a 11 metre RV!

OMG I really try and avoid sites if I possibly can. Give me a pub car park any day

The warden had that completely wrong, the CAMC have no rules about facing doors.

We went working on a beautiful Breton camp site summer 2005.
We warned the "Madame" our RV was 10 metres long .
She had a serious hissy fit until I reminded her that I had told her. Her reply was that she didn't know how big that was.

The hutchies!!!
How the devil are you!!

We did the usual thing when booking, declared 9M when we are actually 10
So he lied on the form.

And this is supposed to be 9M '? Yes I said, still smiling,
Then lied to the face of the guy with a big grin on his face?

Sorry but I would have been angry as well if someone lied to my face while smiling.

If i owned the site , i would be as accomadating as is humanely possible afterall the name of the game is about making money, so if you are unhelpfull and not obliging that customer isnt coming back so in all effects youve lost a sale and future sales, my mantra would be big or small weve room for all Lol

When we had our RV, we would always ring the site first and explain how big we are and that we have a big overhang so if there’s nothing behind the pitch it won’t be a problem. Never had a problem some sites would put a pitch by for us while other sites just said no because they was no way we could fit which is far enough. (y)

I would have told him to move his chair.
Once I’m pitched that’s it!

Those RV's are built for American roads & campsites. Not British ones . IMHO, 9M length on British roads for RV's / Motorhomes should be more than enough for anyone. Not jealousy - just practicality and the acceptance that this is not America.
Not had any problems! 10m Rv. Just a quick call to site to confirm. Uk clearly not the US roadwise but if you can get a recycling vehicle down it, then you can get an Rv down it too!

Have you tried parking a coach or bus on a campsite down a cornwall country lane?
Wouldn't give Cornwall a light. They don't like tourists but LOVE your money.

We just turned up at a CAMC site in Wales, to see if they could accommodate our 9.4m RV, a few years ago. Very friendly wardens (husband and wife) said, "have a look at this one" and it was big enough to park on almost sideways.
Looking around the site I could have parked on 12 pitches with ease, so I asked why there was an 8.5m limit. He said that it was the size of the smallest pitch, as no-one can book a specific pitch, that might be the only one available. But, he went on to say, if we can accommodate larger RVs we will, that's what we are here for. How refreshing is that to hear? Very rare I know.

Heard and read that one loads of times but I don't buy it really, personally I wouldn't want my RV as scratched up as your average council recycle truck;)

Interesting , what length would you declare ?
A Four Winds Hurricane 30q is not 30 ft it’s actually 31ft 5ins , many RVs are labelled by their floor plan lengths not the overall length.

We had a few issues recently on a C&MC rally field (a huge field for goodness sake:LOL:) oh your too long he says, you didn't fill the booking form in properly (nothing on the form) while we are discussing the issue another marshal parks up a longer but lower tandem axle Autotrail in the same spot, the marshal thought that our van was bigger than it is just because it is taller and squarer than some and he wasn't interested in numbers just his perception.

That’s a good point about height, I booked ours in as 6.5 metres, when we got there “ that’s not 6.5 metres” “ Yes it is get your tape out”
He walked round and looked at it from the side. ” Ok I see now”
