The Simpson's Spanish Raid

Beautiful, haven't been there since I was 10 or something, but I do remember it was lovely. Dorset knobs seems stuck in my mind, are they still a thing?
Well you can still get cheese rolls :giggle: whether they are authentic knobs or not i've no idea, I expect i'll have to find a proper bakery to find out.

We managed to get away today at 9, so early start for us 😀 and we drove to Xinzo in Ourense - still in Galicia. We had a pleasant lunch and are parked in an area provided by the local council for free. Black, grey and fresh water but no electricity. Bins are also placed strategically. It's level and very quiet here, there are 4 motorhomes for now. The grass could do with a cut, but hey, it's free.

Dorset Knobs are very much a thing but probably find them in delicatessens in packets rather than bakeries.

Yes, that's them. Lovely, at least when I was a Kid.

Today we arrived at Requejo, Zamora, a lovely little town. It's still raining so we have not been able to explore much, we parked up at the old railway station and we are completely alone. Seems very safe though and there is lots of room to park, all level. You can almost see the rainbow in the first photo.

So we moved on to Zamora on our way to Zaragoza, and stopped at another free motorhome site provided by the local council. All the services except EHU and completely free. Good job we got here early, the place is heaving now and there are 40 plots. Shops and restaurants nearby too. The weather has cleared but it is still very windy but dry.

We went to a tapas bar as we were not sure if the sun would last so didn't want to use the air fryer just in case of not being able to recharge the batteries (every day I'm closer to the inevitable decision of installing lithium), and we had a great meal for €30.

I thought the roof lighting was interesting, reconditioned wine boxes:

Today finally we have been able to do some touristy things. We went to see the Cathedral and the Castle, both of which are wonderful. The views of the city from the top of the castle are lovely.

This is a very beautiful city, if you have not visited it I suggest you do.

We are throwing the house out the window (Spanish saying) and spending money on food in bars (spending money like a man with no arms - as my dad used to say) and we found this great bar close to the site we are on. Mollejas a la plancha, carrilleras de ternera al vino tinto and chips. A fabulous bottle of local wine (Toro - Zamora). Excellent meal.

Went round the city today, nice cathedral and church and some lovely streets. Too many businesses closed and for sale though, much like every other city or town we visit. Seems the high street is dying as we speak, a terrible shame.

La Plaza Mayor de Valladolid.

This is one of the new and upcoming shops selling beans, lentils, spices etc. by the kilo which I think is a great idea. All the rage in Spain as we speak

We ate out again at lunch time, not sure how our accountant will react, but to hell with him. We had an excellent lunch.

An amuse bouche of carrilleras de ternera.

Boletus a baja temperatura con foie y yema de huevo. You then have to break the yolk and mix it all together, so we did.

Scottish bistec is the name they give this wonderful steak (I would say it's entrecote), we shared one because it was almost 500g, so half done to medium and the other half done rare, as steak should always be eaten. This is my half.

A bottle of plonk from the region (Ribera del Duero - the best wine in the world) to accompany an excellent meal and all for €100 including 2 beers I had before starting, which I thought was excellent value.
