The Marrakesh Express

Where in Fnideq did you park? There is a long, flat expanse of beach after the town (heading towards M'diq) with great parking areas beside it but as we didn't see any camper vans or motorhomes on it we didn't want to risk it. We usually use S4S coordinates to find parking areas but we don't have a map of Africa in the sat nav.
You can put gps coordinates into google maps on your phone.

Day 1 in Morocco.
Having had our passports checked and stamped on board the ferry we looked forward to a speedy exit from the docks. How wrong could we be?
Police at the bottom of the ferry ramp checked our passports. Then we joined 1 of the 4 queues that merge into 2 to go through the scanner. Then they pull us out of that queue and send us to the customs points. All around us are cars and vans with their contents scattered all over the roadways. Didn't look good for our 30+ bottle stash of wine....
A very officious customs officer checked out paperwork - V5, passports (both ours and the dogs), took a look inside then waved us on our way. Big sigh of relief.
We bought 2 Maroc Telecom SIM cards from their office in the car park within the port - 30 euros each for 30gb unlimited roaming and the ability to top up when needed.
Had a lovely drive over the Rif mountains, past Ceuta to Fnideq, where S4S showed some beach side parking was available. We didn't see one motorhome or campervan on the car parks by the beach so continued to our next choice - the Hotel and Restaurant La Ferma at Cabo Negro.
It's a lovely site, 20 minutes outside Tetouan with plenty of space, a motorhome service point and a great restaurant where we have just enjoyed our first Tagine dish of succulent lamb with prunes.
Hoping to get a taxi ride into Tetouan tomorrow so staying another day. Loving Morocco so far! 👍

That’s good to know about Tetouan - we are heading over that way over the next week or so 👍

Day 2 in Morocco.
From PIFfing to Riffing.
We left Cabo Negro this morning, circumvented Tetouan and had a stunning drive through the Rif mountains, hugging the coast most of the way to Oued Laou where we are staying at Camping Abdul. His site is right on the beach at the far end of the town, costs 50 dirhams a day, has hole in the floor toilets and a bucket and well if you want some water. He also delivers chicken Tagines to your door at a time to suit you and they are delicious - cost us a fiver each with free delivery! Nice town with a guardian parking spot near the centre about which we have heard mixed reviews so chose to give it a miss. We walked along the beach into town, about a 15 minute walk if you don't have our dogs in tow, visited the souk and found a bar with "proper" toilets. Also encountered our first packs of stray dogs - they aren't a problem here as they are very territorial and only come out and bark if you encroach on them. It's the feral cats that are the problem, but only in the town. We have a stunning view of the beach and sea through our windscreen and the Rif mountains behind us. Only 7 vans / motorhomes here so plenty of room for tables and chairs. A must visit if you are in the area 👍

I take it you have google maps,

image.webp

It will tell you you where you are, the blue dot..

image.webp

Touch screen to where you want to go..

image.webp

Then press directions and it will give you routing and press start and away you go…

Sorry if you know this but your question seemed to indicate you didn’t… but this is what I do, I find where I want to go and just follow it gives good routes add extra time for not going at the speed limits and it doesn’t use much data at all…👍🏼

There wasn't anyone parked there when we drove past. All the way into town there were "auxiliary military" vehicles parked every 100 yds along the front and all through the town. Unsure of what was going down so didn't want to risk parking on the front just after the town. It's a shame we missed it as it had a lively sea front.

It's really worth a visit. There are large car parks that you can stop overnight on for around 30D. The town is worth a visit and has a good market. A nice promenade to walk down to the marina and town.

One for next time, or the way back!

Day 3 in Morocco.
We stayed another day in Oued Laou as it's a great place to chill. Walked along the beach into town, did some shopping in the local market, had lunch by the beach then walked back along the beach to the campsite. Spent the afternoon sunbathing.
Tomorrow we are off to see the blue town.

Looking clean and tidy there… what’s the temperatures like..?

Days 4 & 5 in Morocco.
A lovely drive through the Rif mountains from Oued Laou to Chefchaouen and a 2 day stop over at Camping Azilan, which is perched high above the town. We got a front row parking spot with EHU, the site has both traditional and "European" toilets, cold and hot showers (10 dirhams for a hot shower) and there is a fresh water filling hose and black and grey waste points near the reception area. The most direct access to the town is via a steep, stoney path way that winds its way down through a rambling graveyard and brings you out into a little square with a gateway into the Medina. Once inside it's a beautiful place to be with narrow streets packed with stalls and shops, a lovely Kasbah and a square, ringed with restaurants that's great for chilling with a drink and people watching. It's a long, slow walk back to the campsite though! Top tip - get a taxi - only 20 dirhams (less than £2) and they take dogs too.

Day 6 in Morocco.
It took us 4 hours to drive the 178 Kms to our next stop at Cala Iris, back on the Med coast. It's a challenging drive through the Rif mountains on narrow, switchback roads but well worth the effort. Eco Camping Amis Cala Iris is situated on a cliff top, overlooking the bay and Cala Iris harbour. Sadly the home cooked Tagines delivered to your motorhome door are not available at this time of year but we have provisions to last us the next 3 days so we have decided to spend an extra night here. It's just so tranquil and chilled - just what we were looking for.

Day 7 in Morocco.
We have spent most of today sunbathing ☀️ We did take a late afternoon walk to the beach at the back of the port which is a bit cleaner (but not by a great margin) than the one nearest us. The site has filled up today and now has 9 motorhomes / vans parked up, although there are only marked spaces for 7 vehicles. Tomorrow we leave for Nador.
