The beauty of Wild Camping and being me!

Goggle It! It varies as it's quite high. Getting very hot now though and temp will continue to rise
I would google it but I don’t have internet access.

The picture says it all. £1.25 per night with services delivered to your motorhome. Long live me and my kind, you know who you are.

Hi PhilandMena, couldn't have put it better
I feel that is how a motorhome was designed to be used.

What do the locals do? It seems to be in the middle of nowhere.

Certainly, here goes. First thing in the morning fresh bread delivered, that fresh it is still hot from the ovens also included are cakes, and other delicacies. During the day, the water browser visits to fill up motorhomes with fresh water, mechanics, electricians, artists and other trade people offering their services. Hot food is, cooked fresh and delivered to your motorhome upon placing your order. Waste is collected by the modern dumped truck regularly and big green waste bins provided. Laundry, taken and delivered to your motorhome. Also gas bottle replacements. How do you like them apples!
That looks like Tafroute to me the Campsite brigade could never begin to understand what it's like to camp in such an awesome spot, live and let live I say, they are welcome to their tarmac roadways, marked out pitches, you can't face that way, no you are not allowed to have the nice view, keep your heated shower block, clubhouse, takeaway, parked up in rows for weeks on end looking at the same row of vans awnings in front of you, I have all the facilities I need in my van and I use them I don't have a gin palace with a shower that's never been used, a toilet that you are only allowed to do a wee in, Long live Fur Lined Thongs. Rant Over

It is in the middle of nowhere. The town is thriving, hotels with swimming pools, restaraunts, garages, carpenters, mechanics, electricians, bakeries, electronic shops, medical services, shops, tradespersons, cobblers, I could go on and on and on. Some people have no idea what goes on Morocco and without a doubt the vast majority who visit, simply fall in love with the country. Tafroute is mesmerising as ate many other places over here.

Your bang on ! On all accounts.

I can see it in Google maps, and it looks a very modern town, but I can't see why people live there. They don't appear to farm, there seems to be no industry, and its miles from anywhere.

Genuinely interested.

Many of the inhabitants work, the place is full of buildings offering services of one sort or another. Banks, post offices, cafes, shops, government buildings, the list is endless.

In fairness Tafraoute is the main town for quite a large area, just like you have market towns in the UK, and provides services the widespread local population need. Despite the apparent paucity of habitation outside the town, there are many folk living/working out in the "countryside" - just stop anywhere, even in an apparently empty desert, and see how long it takes for the local kids to find you! And on Wednesday (market day) it's positively heaving!

And of course for 3/4 months of the year there are upwards of 350 motorhomes to be looked after!

Take your point @olley but we often remark on our travels throughout Europe "what do people do here?"

Even in Germany I have wondered in many of the shops how do they survive as the footfall compared with in UK is small . , Must be lower overheads ?

Guys I would love to go, but the wife is convinced theirs a terrorist on every corner.:(

A valid point, I guess. I call it wild camping because its, well in the wild. No designated pitches. Just a great big fu**off oasis with palm trees, wild goats , wild sheep and some wild French. Close enough for me chum.

Never mind all that about banks and hotels and workshops ect...

Do they have any Burger King restaurants?

No?

So I'm not going there...

No Fray Bentos pies either:LOL:

Is it the moon? About as much going on!
Not quite the moon but a lot don’t want swimming pools, clubhouses, tennis courts takeaways or restaurants on site, a little bit of natural surroundings suit most of us I think, everyone to their own I say.

This encapsulates the differences. There are some that want entertainment from hour to hour, minute to minute, and some who just enjoy being there, breathing the air, loving the space. It takes all kinds, and we all call ourselves motorhomers.

I'm with you Phil. At least, I wish I was. Mind you, it's not too bad on the Algarve at the moment. Driving from Lisbon to the Algarve, we saw only 3 or 4 motorhomes. At Mikki's at the moment.
Love Mikki’s Place, really informal kind of layout, really quirky, have stayed there and love it, it’s about as near as I would want to go to a “campsite “.though your average campsite couldn’t hold a candle to Mikki’s.

Thanks for the positive feedback.
Some pictures of the sunsets and the whole oasis from half way up one of those mountains.
This is our third visit here and we and many others who return here find it a magical place to visit.

Tafroute is a magical place, excellent photos but as you will agree they don’t really do it justice, you’ve got to experience it first hand to get a real feel of the place, it would knock any campsite into touch I think. but that’s just my opinion.

You have locals in this country that live in the “middle of nowhere” as you put it, but even they are content with where they are and what they’Ve got a lot of people live out in the sticks in uk and wouldn’t dream of being anywhere else.

Sailed past on the way to Cape Town, Bunkered at Dakar and Las Palmas. Does that count?.:D2

In many ways, it looks like the Huge Campsite that springs up every year, to trade Gem Stones, in the desert outside of Quartzite in the USA. It`s big business for the locals, and most of the money is made in a 3 month period.

Excuse me Ms Only Sue... how can you write Burger King and that DREADFUL greasy chicken (yuk) outlet in the same line of text? :(

JJ
