Tec tower fridge has failed, need new or repair?

The previous owners of mine had a rubber “button” fixed to the bottom of the fridge so that the main door catches on it and makes a secondary friction catch as well as the normal push button one

and there was me thinking this new lock would be so much better than the old system that we have now, maybe your previous owner had the same distrust of anything Dometic I am getting, hopefully will not be needed (y)o_O

I would not worry too much David. Ours has never failed in the almost 3 years we have had it.

Edit .......... but then, knowing your luck ..................

To be honest, it is bloody annoying as you have to consciously push the door shut, but at least it won’t fly open.....

all this talk of new fridges costing silly money, just madness. A friend of mine had his fridge repaired and re-gassed in Morocco for very little money. surely a proper old fashioned fridge engineer could do the same? it's not that complicated

Unfortunately it is for an absorption fridge:

If it's like the system on mine you'll find a protrusion under the latch 'hook'. Push that up once on site & the door is held by the magnetic seal like a domestic fridge. The latch is only needed whilst travelling - and wears the plastic latch plate away if used constantly.

Nope, this has been added by the previous owners

I wouldnt discount Remoskas @DavidG58, Sues loves her so much we had to have two and she frequently uses one at home.

I do like your new Fridge Freezer, but we are also in the camp that wouldnt be without an oven, if we ve had a big travelling day then its nice to relax and stick something in the oven rather than go out and find somewhere to eat, especially in the cooler months ( like this September!!)

Sorry to hear you are having hassles again, hope it all gets sorted soon.

Jon

Phase 1 complete, we now have a new fridge fitted :)(y)

Old one out first

Bought the one linked higher up on eBay, did a deal for £1500 which although far from cheap is £600 less than list price

We now have no oven, but are quite relaxed about that, especially now we have seen the fridge in situ

Not the best of lighting for photos, will do another in daylight , but this really looks to be a great fridge if performance matches looks

Lower section pull out drawer is for chilling anything but designed for bottles and will keep weight off the hinged door (y)

A massive thanks to @Terry for his help today swapping them over (y)

we can confirm the oven section is very much part of the package, the two are well and truly screwed together and even share a single gas input

and its heavy due to the oven section

talking oven we opted to fold over the oven vent pipe and leave in situ but sealed off, just in case I or any new owner wanted to revert back to a full tec tower, cant believe we will

That fridge freezer looks the biz! Well impressed

If you are going to sell your old tec tower fridge/oven can I have first dibs please? Always good having spares to replace like catches, hinges etc (y)

You obviously haven’t read @DavidG58 exploits over the last few years,
There won’t be many spare parts that are any good on that fridge. :whistle2:

Oh I have been following it (y), obviously no cooling because it all leaked out but things like door seals, knobs, hinges etc always comes in handy as I have the same tec tower fridge which is the same age so any spare parts are always welcome (y)

You need to go a little further back than that, ask @DavidG58 about the time the door dropped off.

You are already in a queue of like minded folk, promised first dibs at the doors, even though one is broken it is less broken than theirs o_O

Will get an update from them on timescale then let you know (y) I don't want it under carport for too long, apart from anything else knowing my luck I will drive into it :(

Cheers (y)

Nice one David & Bev (and @Terry). (y)

We don't have a Tec Tower system, and are absolutely positive that we don't want one in the future. :( That fridge/freezer looks the absolute bizzo. With a decent battery bank and an inverter, the Remoska would be our chosen route......................along with our existing trusty double skillet, used on the hob. It's a wee oven in it's own right. ;)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

A little update on the fridge refit and the daylight photos I promised

I was slightly concerned my brand new fridge may not be workimg well :( particularly as I keep reading fridge woes threads on here

Whenever I opened the door to check / look / admire my new fridge it never felt cool and the lower drawer felt positively cupboard like in temperature o_O

Yesterday I put a garden temperature sensor in top section, leaning on back wall but below the fridge plates. After 2 hours it read -2.7C moved it to lower drawer overnight that read 4.7C nice bottles lager temperature so no complaints there

I have just turned the temperature setting down and moved sensor back to top will check again in an hour but all looks very acceptable it just doesn’t feel cold when the door is opened. Might be the fan that sucks cold down to bottom maybe, although that still doesn’t feel cold even now I know it is only 4C

Might work better with the door closed.:D:D;);););)
(Apologies to follow)

Just looking at my last photo, been back out to wipe away the dirt left by outside sensor before Bev spots it (y)

I know it’s been a while but just read this. I was also told not to keep the latch on for that very reason. However,I know I would forget to reset the latch when going to travel and I fear the effects of repeated door swinging open, with damage to the door and spillages from the contents, more than a worn catch.

3 - 5 degrees is about the right temperature for chilled. (y)

I took the temperature sensor for Rita's meds off the fridge wall when in Germany, as the readings were 8 degrees plus sometimes, (especially on hot days), but my cans of beer were really cold.
I then stuck the sensor on to a corn beef tin on the top shelf, set the temperature control to the middle (medium) setting, and the sensor recorded 3.6 - 4 degrees for the remainder of the holiday. (y) That was either on gas or EHU, however, the temperatures did rise slightly when travelling.

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Same catch as is on ours David. Do you know that you can slide out the catch on the body of the fridge so that it will lock the door with a ventilation gap when the fridge is switched off.

Can’t find this option on mine Peter, might not be looking in right place though. But as we always stay on hook up at home we don’t need the option

Found this Tony (y) nice simple option wouldn’t have spotted it though without you pointing it out

Top photo has plastic tab sticking out of bottom of latch, push up to hold hook open

But as @Riverbankannie says maybe too big a risk of forgetting to lock before moving, exactly Bev’s words when I showed her

Benefit of having had the old fridge door fly right off I guess :(

very happy to report that although the top fridge still doesn't feel cold the thermometer says 2.2C, can maybe turn it down from 4 to 3 lights :)(y)
