Tam &Toby do Europe ...Take two

passport system is ok for now
The passport system "Pet Passport" for re-entry to the UK won't change - why should it when it has always been our rules and unique to the UK? What may change is the rules for importing animals into, say, France or Spain because they may or may not accept our Pet Passport health standards. So coming back = fine. Leaving for France / Spain et al = uncertain.

I'm just going on the official release from the government on travel for next year , it seems 90 days will be the max and will be enforced. Dog passport scheme no longer valid etc .....if I was to go to europe in october I'd be screwed after jan 1st for getting back.....and if only 90 days I'd only be able to do like 1st november to 31st january which isn't very good :( I'm just thinking if 3 months is all I can do at a time then it's not what I want to do.
Yes it's a holiday but also a way of life I've been used to for the last 2 years and it seems that's no longer possible.
Living in a van in the uk is no picnic ....cold wet and zero facilities without using campsites which as everyone knows is not my thing.

I also now feel because I have the dogs my original escape plan of moving to Spain or Portugal or the canaries is now a lot harder

Nothings impossible of course but my brain isnt processing that at the minute .....I just feel miserable and a bit lost at the minute.

Thanks for the offer it's very nice of you , but dont have anyone who could look after dogs for me ....not sure milo could handle me being away as hes very clingy

And the job I'm doing at the minute if I was off for any length of time someone else would get the work ....can't afford to lose £2k a month at the minute
All of what you have read is what will happen if there is no deal. Stop looking on the dark side..it may not happen..BUSBY.??

I work for an agency that provides drivers for a lot of take away places in Edinburgh. It's crazy the amount of money there is in the industry. I can quite easily deliver £250-350 worth of food on a 3/4 hour shift.

Sorry to hear you speaking like that but don't sell as the amount of work you have invested would go to waste.
Always depressing thsi time of yera anywhere in the UK for me.
maybe use up 45 days going down through Spain then over to Morocco for a month or so, and you still have 45 days for return trip. The blood tests for the dogs are a pain but only need done the once. I know there have been people on here who've taken their dogs so don't discount it.
Yes of you went to Morocco you'd have to have the blood test to get back in to the EU so it would double up for entry from the UK to EU if it came to it.

I know the welding could be a problem but you could take the front struts off and take them somewhere to get the springs swap
I dont have anywhere that I can jack it up to get them off unfortunately....gravel driveway here

Apparently not

The 90 day in 180 is already decided

I get paid £2 per delivery and £20 per night fuel money ....my car uses about £10 a night and I average between 30 and 50 deliveries per night

And then theres tips

I do 5 nights a week ....sometimes 6 so good money
Theres usually 2 of us bit sometimes 3 on each night.....I reckon the shop takes in a few grand a night easily

What type of place is it you work for? I find I get most tips when I'm delivering for Indian restaurants. But then sometimes I can get a lot of tips one night and others absolutely nothing.

I had an order around New Years where the guy was due £48.50, so quite a big order. He gave me £50 and was looking for change. I felt that was a bit stingy.... and I'm an Aberdonian  Any Americans tip really well.

As for the feeling miserable I think a lot of people feel it this time of year. If it's a rainy day it's near dark by 4 o'clock, gets to you after a while. I'm so desperate to get away I'm planning flying to Gibraltar for a long weekend

Italians so do everything from fish and chips to pizzas , pasta , kebabs etc etc

They also do loads of deserts so is fairly busy

Lot of tight folk about but I get £5 tips etc a fair bit

I cant unfortunately toby is currently out of mot and is sorned, he needs 2 spots welded and front struts replaced, I'm struggling to get a local garage that's large enough to get it in .....and I was trying to hold off till after march as I'd hoped to go away from October to march.
ALANS Cairneyhill has serviced my van?

Tam don't forget you can apply for a visa to extend your stay apparently

Hi Tam. I've been feeling similar lately but sure it's just winter blues and I'm holding out to get away in April for a long trip with my dog. We will be away still when the transition period ends but nothing changes till January next year so if you went away in October you could stay in the eu till the following April worse case scenario as the 90 days would start in January 2021. Also as long as you start planning for the dogs 4 months before you travel you will be ok. We are getting the titre test for Beech in a few weeks and will be ending our trip with a couple of months in Morocco. For future trips after the transition period we will be limited and it sucks but we will do 90 days in eu and extend our trips with visits to places outside the schengen. I hope we like morroco!

The campsite jobs always sound like a good idea when your living that sort of lifestyle anyway.
we went for assessment to a C&CC day, was ok but not impressed, also when you look at the wardens on the Clubsites they do work hard, it’s a full days work, you’re never (technically) off duty as if you’re there and an emergency crops up it’s all hands to the pumps.
A lot of sites (maybe not the clubs) expect you to work everyday in high season, although you will get a day off when it’s quiet.
With a dog in tow (in your case 2) I don’t think you would find it very easy.
We did 4 seasons of 8 months each on a privately owned site, we weren’t wardens just cleaners and dogsbodies, we had a dog with us and luckily we had a secure pitch so when she wasn’t actually with us she was safe. We we’re always glad at the end of the season when we could get away and do what we wanted, although it didn’t actually pay it saved us a lot of money.
A free pitch, EHU, washing machine & dryer, WiFi, gas, and we got pocket money for odd jobs like painting a fence or weeding and mowing.
A warden job is not a job, it is a way of life and very tying and (I don’t think) it’s for someone with dogs!

ALANS Cairneyhill has serviced my van?
Aye he does my mot ....but my sisters van had bad experience with him so not sure I trust him to do work.

There will be people on here that know better than me, but I think once it's done and the dogs are shown to have the required level of antibodies, that's it indefinitely. Some dogs fail it and have to go through the course of rabies jags again, but the nearer they are to when they had their jags, the higher the anti bodies.
Out here with the dogs legally required to have annual jags we apparently have a better chance of having the necessary levels.
I think that is right, no doubt someone will soon correct me if not.
The UK have the 3 year programme coz they are in theory a rabies free country, so more frequent jags are not deemed necessary.

So get the test done, if you are stuck in the UK for several months (and earning good money) now would be the time to do it. I believe it's pretty expensive (especially in the UK) but all being well it's a one off, then you can go traveling whenever you like. :giggle:

try ingles vet round the corner.
Megan specialises in pet passports.
With 2 dogs give my name and you will get a discount.?
Forgot to mention
My 2 dogs are mini schnauzers

We are going to get Fudge Titre tested soon as it’s a 3 or 4 month wait, goodness knows why as the tests come back in about 14 days.
Then at least she (hopefully) will be sorted for later in the year.

Well I'm in a bit of a depressed state at the minute ....totally fed up , the weather is dire , I feel like groundhog day just doing the same things day in day out ....walk dogs, sit around, work ,sleep repeat
Well well, what a sheltered life I've led all these years (probably due to never having owned a TV and rarely having been to the cinema. (I hasten to say I do sometimes watch DVDs and various stuff on You Tube)
Over the years I have heard the term ""groundhog day" but I've never been interested enough to query to what it referred. Tonight listening to Radio 4 I have learned it's meaning.
In the past surviving cold, dark, wet Scottish winters I could no doubt relate to a certain extent to some of Tam's feelings. The major difference being that I was never earning"decent money lol.
Now however, despite or maybe because of increasing awareness of my MS, I look at life differently,
I appreciate little every day things. OK each day I do much the same : get up, eat breakfast, walk the dogs etc but within that there is so much that is different.
Where shall I sit with my morning tea to enjoy the warmth of the sun, what is Querida doing now to make me laugh (or irritate me)?
I notice how much warmer it is this week compared to last, I look in wonderment at each newly blossoming almond tree, at snow that I've not seen before on those distant mountains.
I am so happy and grateful that my illness forced my retirement and led me with my dogs to this wonderful place and brought me to the appreciation of all that surrounds me.
Groundhog day - Never:giggle:(y)

To add to my troubles ...toby is playing up again

Today I got back from doggy walks and my control panel was once again flashing charge

Despite the fact the van has been hooked up permanently since mid december
So I thought I'll do the usual , unplug electric start the van for 10 minutes or so and somehow that usually solves it

But

I put keys in ignition turned off immobiliser turned key and nothing

Turned key back tried again ....not even ignition lights

Panel is showing hab batteries and engine battery at 14.4v

Didn't have time to investigate as started work at 4.30 ....

Will check actual battery voltage etc tomorrow.....I don't know what's going on with it , every couple of weeks it flashes this charge thing up

Have found a garage that says he can do the welding and strut changes and probably the timing belt too

But I need to get it to him obviously

Don't get me wrong I'm making good money and managing to put a fair bit a month in to my savings ....but

With all the things changing for travel next year I'm not even sure I'll get away for winter .....which is making me think maybe I should just sell toby

Like I said I'm fed up and feeling kind of stuck.?
That's life,,Worked 12 hour plus days 6 days a week for 30 odd years,,mind you i enjoyed my job and the money was ok,,played hard also but managed to retire at 56..BUSBY.

I have had bodywork done at Armits Autos in Broxburn. They do all sorts, not just bodywork, and have a big facility suitable for motorhomes and commercial stuff.
