If you have a voltage drop due to thin wires or poor connection, it will only show a lower voltage at the heater when it is drawing its full current. If you're measuring the voltage with no current in the cable there will be no voltage drop even with a high resistance (according to Ohms law). So don't measure when the heaters not working.

Never rains but it pours huh.

This morning as I left braganca my engine management light came on and now Toby is running like a bag of poop ....misfiring and loss of power.

Have put my code reader on and says 2 codes but when I try to read them it says no codes stored in system so I've no idea what's causing it ....so will need to find a garage. He's due a service but wouldn't have thought anything was that dirty to be causing this.
Very weird:( but I hope whatever it is it isn't serious or costly

Hard luck Tam, but it confirms my theory- these things always happen at weekends!:(
Yes I've noticed that too . Everytime something's happened, alternator , brakes , tyres ,skylight ..always a bloody Friday or Saturday..

But I'm in the middle of nowhere now so I have to find a garage that can fit a motorhome and hopefully it's just needing it's service done.

I'm hoping it isn't dirty diesel as I only filled up at Zamora.

But it certainly seems like it has kangaroo fuel :(

I'm in Spain again. Just pulled in to a parking spot at puebla de sanabria. There's a garage near here opens Monday morning so I think I'll have to just stay here at the minute as it's really running rough. And struggling on the hills. Wouldn't be so bad if my code reader would tell me what's flagging up but still saying no codes stored.

We had a warning light, and limp mode come on at Braganca, luckily we were still under fiat warranty, the nearest Fiat garage was in Amarante the garage name is Mcoutinho, if any use to you

I don't have any white smoke...or any smoke to be honest, just like a misfire and splutttering

It hasn't gone In to limp mode in fact if stationary it splutters when idling but if you rev it then it seems to be okay at high revs . Don't want to take it to fiat though. Most garages should have a code reader so I will see what this local one says on Monday.

Is there any odd stuff going on the dash, indicators working and so on, just wondered if it's a dodgy earth. ? Bob.

Just seen the latest might be worth draining the fuel filter.

Nothing on dash except the eml

I think it's dirty fuel so perhaps diesel filter needs changes

It has done at least 12000 miles since service so that's my first bet

Will see if this garage here can service it on Monday. And see if he can read codes.

So if you are in a pleasant enough parking spot just put the motor out of your mind and enjoy a nice peaceful weekend with the dogs exploring your surroundings.
If you really want to focus on something else, get the bike trailer out, hook up,put both dogs in it plus survival rations and head off into the wide blue yonder.....
The pleasure or the pain will take your mind off Toby:giggle:(y)

Yeah it's not a bad spot I'll survive lol

Haven't used the bike or trailer much this year we prefer just to walk. Something else I might just get rid of when I'm home.

Don't rush to get rid of it, if ultimately you buy yourself a plot that you live on in Toby it could come in really useful.
If you do that and find you haven't used it after 12 months then perhaps you could think of selling it .

The trailer I may keep but the bike if I was going to keep one I think I would change it again to a slightly larger one and one without disc brakes

Nice little medeival town here but I feel it's spoiled by cars. It would be better if they banned them from accessing the old town ...takes away the charm of the place.

Steep climb up a million stairs to get to the castle.....wee milo was knackered at the top. See if you can spot toby

So the heating issue.

When I switched it on this morning I kept the voltage meter on the main live and neg feed to the heater.
To start with it was 12.5v
As the heater fan started to get up to speed that slowly dropped from 12.5 all the way down to 10.4v that's when the red light kicks in ... now normally it also cuts of when red light comes on but somehow it's not done that yet....but currently reading 10.3v at heater and 12.2v on control panel

So any ideas?

P.s also checked at actual batteries and with heater still on full whack they are both reading. 12.2v each so correspond with panel

I can't help with your problems but if you're going to breakdown anywhere it couldn't be a nicer spot.
Hoping you get sorted Monday (y)

Yeah I'll just be happier once it's been looked and and found to be nothing serious.
Long way from home to have big problems.

Of course no guarantee he can even look at it Monday that's just when they reopen.

Got to be a poor connection or as it's fed via the EBL could be relay or burnt PCB.
Run a pair of new cables direct to the batteries with a 10 amp fuse in line at the battery end. That's how the wire them on newer vans. That should get you out of trouble for now.

Good luck with the engine.

Yeah I'm suspecting my ebl has a few issue. : (
I think I have some 2 core cable in the garage so can run wire from battery to heater no probs just need a fuse holder
Just one problem after another lol.

in a way thats good news as you suspect the ebl has problems anyway at least its not ebl and heater.how thick is the 2core you have if its any distance from boiler to batteries it might need heavier cable.

Yes i agree i would rather it was one thing faulty than 2.

I think the cable is about the same as what is there currently
I’ve of people having good service from Schaudt but you have to send to Germany or on your return have a trip to Somerset to these people.

There's a few companies in England that do an exchange refurbished ebl for around £300 So worse case scenario but 2 of the issues can be bypassed in fact if I fit a caravan split charger all 3 can be bypassed so I might get away with just doing that

Just a thought , if the motor was Faulty , it could be drawing more amps than it should & might account for the voltage drop
