We had a walk along to benalmedina marina again this morning...it didn't start off well as there had been a fishing competition on the torremolinos beach yesterday and the lazy dirty barstewards had left the beach littered with hooks. Tackle and wet wipes , I had to extract a hook from poor jade's paw not 10 minutes in to our walk, I then had to warn several folk that were walking barefoot along the beach that there was discarded hooks everywhere..... and they've the cheek to ban dogs from beaches when once again its dirty selfish humans that leave the mess ....the amount of wet wipes on the beach since yesterday is disgusting...i watched a fisherman doing it again today ...bait the hook , cast , wipe hands then throw the wipe on the ground .. lazy gits


Anyway we carried on ...walked along the wall round the marina , got some photos of the poor old half sunk paddle steamer the willow....not sure how long that's been there but such a shame . Then back to the van for lunch. Dogs all crashed out . That's 13km we've done already today.

Willow sank 2019 (we were staying in benal at the time) they have had several attempts to refloat her. She has been subject to a big court case. She is to be removed by April 26 2023. Wikipedia has a history of her starting life in the USA.

No she started squealing like a pig being slaughtered. The line was all twisted round her leg and was about 10 foot long and caught in the sand and stones so when she tried to pull away it got tighter. Fortunately I managed to wiggle it out and it's not bothering her now but she was lucky.

It's not new it's 13 years old lol with 65000 miles on it . I can guarantee when stripped out it will have as much hidden rust as the others because the forced air vents in the roof leak from day 1.

But of course no one will know that till after they've paid the money. But I follow over 300 of these vans and buses on Instagram and I've yet to see one that hadn't leaked. The chassis and engines are great but the bodies are rust magnets as they aren't protected when new .

He's basing his price on it being low Miles but most of the vario fans don't care about the Miles as their built to do high mileage.

The ugly bus door will still need addressing as will all the single glazed side windows to make it a nice camper.

As a bus it's worth 1/4 of his asking price as its too old for most bus companies these days . Its euro 4 at best so no good in ulez etc for bus use .


But some dafty might buy it eventually but personally I'd rather buy the one at 3 grand and weld it up

The crazy armoured vario he has advertised for 52k aswell is a joke ...he's basing that on it being 4x4 but you'd need a body to transplant as that's no good for a camper. So you'd have about 100k invested in that by the time you built it.

Been our second walk in the direction of the nudist beach , had a look in the dusty carpark at the end where 2 black guys in high viz vests are charging dafties €5 a night to park in a free public carpark miles away from anything and there's about 30 -40 campers all sandwiched in there.

Anyway I spotted a couple of cool ones. This school bus wins hands down on cool points . It gets lots of attention from passers by . Few big concordes and phoenix campers there too that no one gives a second glance too

I have to say I know what I'd prefer .....

But the reason I love self builds and why ultimately I think it's my best bet to find my forever van is because rather than the gloss white cabinets and magnolia leather interior etc that modern vans seem to all have ....I like interiors like this , cosy and homely

All that's missing there is a Woodburner and it's perfect

Just had the best laugh I've had In ages I've discovered if I start howling and I do it long enough I can get all the dogs to join in ....its hilarious milo has the cutest howl you can imagine, ela does more like a very noisy sea lion but jade can do a great wolf howl . My neighbours will be loving me this morning lol. But I'm hoping I can get them to do it again and I'll video them . But might wait till I've moved from here

First proper rain we've seen since we got to Spain but its lashing it down thus morning , dogs didn't want to go out for morning ablutions today , particularly ela who honestly behaves like she's gonna shrink ...all hunched up tail tucked right down under her and she refuses to do the toilet lol. I think she has flashbacks to the weather in Greece when I found her. So we are back in the van watching the torrential rain and wind out the window. ...hoping it will go off at somepoint so we can go for our walk . I'll have to dig out my walking boots

I hate waiting for things , and it seems this vet is intent on making me wait for these bloody results. The 21 days is up tomorrow and I can guarantee I have to chase them up again tomorrow. I don't believe for a second that the lab did not test that blood at least 2 weeks ago and a verbal answer would have been available but there's nowt you can do as they know they have you held to ransom. I certainly would not recommend this particular vet to anyone .

The one I used In peurto mazarron were far far better ( but I still think they took the pee wee too with regards to the written results)

It's just annoying been sat here with no idea if she has passed or not, so if she has failed I don't even have time now to have another test done before I return home as I'm out of shengen time on the 25th Feb if I don't get to Morocco.
I want to keep 14 days minimum to get from algeciras to calais on my return so if going to Morocco time is now ticking ...

Add to that I've still to get the health checks done before I can cross , the price of which is not €38 as suggested by Jane and Rog but its €50 per dog as CaptainPaul asked the other day , hed also asked them if they could do a discount as we have 5 dogs between us but the vet was having none of it , despite us all knowing the check is a piece of nonsense and there will be very little checked other than a heartrate and temperature check if anything.

he phoned round several other vets to get a price to compare and none were even aware of these so called health checks.

The things you have to do and pay for to travel is ridiculous these days and most of it is just a way of extracting money out of folk .
