Tam & co the great winter escape

Starting to sound like you've made your decision Tam.

For what it's worth, if you do decide to carry on with the Vario, I have no doubt that it will turn out fantastic and a lot here (me included) will be very jealous of your van. I'm not just blowing smoke up your a**e, I've seen your older builds and they looked great to me. Plus if there's something you're not sure about you always ask - and the combined knowledge of this forum is mind blowing

My only worry would be the resale value if you later changed your mind. Do well converted Vario's demand big money? I'm genuinely asking as I have no idea. Of course if you decide to keep the van for years and years this isn't an issue anyway.

Upgrading the electrics and solar on an existing van has come down in price. You could fit a 400Ah (say) setup with 900w of solar and all Victron charging for around £3.5k without cutting any corners. Add a diesel heater for another £100 and sorted.

I havnt read every post in detail ,so it might have been mentioned, but why can't you put a diesel heater in any van, my lad puts them in tractor cabs, no problem and the ones with their own diesel tank will stand anywhere as long as you can get the exhaust to the outside.

One of the ones i follow on Instagram just sold for £55k ...and another for £32k so yeah they seem to sell well if a decent job done.

But my plan to build it was initially to be my home the next 5 to 10 years so i would have to get it right.

I wouldn't sell it without finishing the welding and tidying it all up anyway so it would be a while before i parted with it. Plenty time to fall back in love with it. So will see what happens.

That was the problem with the hymer ...i couldn't find a place to fit it where i could get the exhaust outside.

Ooft when you go on mobile.de and look at the prices for converted varios its obscene , €86k , €135k , 😱

The hobby 700 type would only be single floor, would that be problem for you

This is the best van we have had by miles and if circumstances were different I would live in it. Just over £30,000 4 years ago April 2018.

Iveco 3 litre 2005 it flies up hills in 6th gear.

Alde, separate factory fit Truma as well, oven, everything

Too small for you though at only 6.48

Are they? From the pics and the storage i thought they had the double floor like the burstner and euramobil

That's something id need to check out then. I thought the tanks etc were sandwiched between like the others.
Our 2001 hymer is single floor with the water tank inside, only the grey is outside with a cover and polystyrene between them.

Aye but my 2004 had the double floor with both tanks between the floors. I think it varies on some models. Not sure if the hobby 600 has the double floor but id expect the 700 to have it.

same with our burstner i bought one hoping to aleviate the cold spot cab area but cant find a place i could mount it and get vents where i need them

Well it wouldn't come last in the beauty competition that's for sure. Not when the competition is transits, ducatos and sprinters.
I love its big boxy shape . Ive always liked the 2002 -2006 shaped ducato more than the newer shape. I quite like the new shape sprinters but they are narrow like the iveco.

I think the Vario is lovely

It's annoying that every time I more or less make up my mind to build one I get talked out of it. Think it's a conspiracy :p
I like the sound of them too. Proper deep grunt diesel. More of a truck than a van.

You are looking at a very high level in a couple of those and reading what you have had to say over recent posts regarding your questioning yourself as to achieving anything like these examples leaves a big question mark.
Yep i know. But then the brown one recently sold for £160k so im not expecting to match anything like that

The grey one is still not complete. Interior is only half done.
