Tam and Toby ~~ Hunting Zorba .....Take two.

Well today has been a mixed day ,. As it was supposed to be dry and the next 3 or 4 days are supposed to be wet i thought id fit the rear brake shoes on the car and remove the old exhaust ....cant fit new exhaust as they sent the wrong one 🤦‍♂️ got all the new shoes fitted but the retaining clips are knackered so ive had to order them and won't arrive till possibly monday 🤦‍♂️ so im stuck as far as the car goes now.

Razamataz kindly printed off the dvsa forms for me for the bus and popped through with them this morning.....i filled them all in only to discover the application can only be done online and not by post so back to the drawing board

In the end i sent photos of the completed forms back to Razamataz and he copied the information from them on to the forms online then emailed the file back to me and i then completed and submitted the application to the technical application system on dvsa website ...thats gone in and ive had sn email back confirming receipt .... hopefully its filled in correctly but im unsure as it seemed 2 different technicalofficers were responding to my enquires and both were giving conflicting information as to what was required.

Will see what happens now ....but it seems speedlimiter and mirrors are different on busses and hgv so might need things changed there. All blooming unnecessary complications.

Big thanks to Razamataz for his help though ....much appreciated.
In the words of Homer Simpson. "Why does it have to be so complicated!"

Yep exactly.....dvsa seem to think everyone has a city in guilds in over complicated form filling ...if the guys paid to answer enquires arent even on the same page how on earth is joe public meant to grasp it

But hopefully they accept and process the form which only generates a letter from them authorising the mot station to test the vehicle as an HGV not a psv ...thats it basically. And im then hoping as its only done 3000 miles since the last mot that it doesn't require lots of work. Because if it fails on things that dont apply to a class 4 mot or that im going to be removing or changing later its a waste of time and money repairing them at present.

So tomorrow its back to stripping out the wooden roof panels while i wait on car parts arriving and quarantine ending so i can get car and bus to mot tests.

On another point though i did get bus batteries charged and the bus started up .....it sounds healthy and a big grunty diesel ...clutch feels recent too.
Phoned the merc dealer in Doncaster that had done all the servicing in the hope of getting a print out but she says most are too old to be able to print off ...but she could confirm it had been serviced on those dates ...and from accessing the latest 3 services told me it had had new brakes fitted in 2017 etc .

have you checked the availability of test commercial is a lot different to cars i know there was a big back log in the south not long ago
i think the main diffences between the test is weight loading for brake test and more stringent levels so good job yours have been done
the rest will be similar looking for corrosion and play in steering /suspension lights wipers etc make sure all the lights including side markers work
Geo may know more

They wont have to look far for corrosion 🤣🤣 but there's no way that happened in a year so im guessing a lot of the body doesn't come in to the mot on this ...not structural i guess.

It should be tacho excempt as its private use ...thats what the technicalofficers said ...but it will need the speedlimiter set to hgv instead of psv as apparently different. To be honest it wont be driving about much anyway ...but theres some welding i wont be doing myself so ill need to move it for that , and then later to collect wood , insulation etc etc

But if it fails on loads ill be having a rethink i think

Isnt an HGV speed limiter set to 56 mph?
Whereas National Coaches do 70+ on the motorways.
I hope I am wrong, but 56 would be too slow, so need to figure out to disable that bloody thing eh?

I got the RV MOT at the council yard. Very helpful people as they MOT the busses and bin wagons. Might be a good place for a bit of advice. Also no waiting time. Class 7 mot with class 4 regs applied.

It has a limiter at the minute and theres a sticker on the drivers door which im pretty sure says 56mph on it anyway ..

Once ive converted it then it can come off anyway ...it will be converted before its next mot

Yes, 56MPH for trucks and 62 MPH for busses

Tam, you need a new thread this ones clogged up with van!
No, Please don't. I like the van stuff (never thought I'd be interested in a van conversiaon) and I like being able to look back on the travel photos as well for a top up of sun.

Telt ye all before ...ill start a vanbuild thread once i know for sure im going ahead with it which will likely be after its mot'd.
At the minute im still unsure as theres a lot of work required before i even get to the fun parts. If it passes an mot without too much probs then ill feel more confident with it.

At the minute im just stripping what i can out of it to see what i have to work with ....and its a mammoth task just to do that
Its taken me 4 hours today to remove the last of the roof on the wood and the fibreglass mould above the cab seat ....the amount of sikaflex and screws holding this up had to be seen to be believed...none of the screws visible as they had wood filled and sanded them then glued other panels over them ...it was crowbars , hammers , angle grinders and brute force swinging on it to get it down.

Still all the screws and glue to clean off somehow. Its been letting water in on the old forced air vents too so lots of damp fibreglass insulation had to come out ....crazy amount of wire too ... I've removed a lot of it but other stuff i eill have to trace it all back to fusebox etc and remove what isnt needed ..

Slow progress but progress still the same

And incidentally the van already has a name 😁

Now that’s why I would never attempt what your doing, all those wires.

Are they going to be able to MOT it on its current staus considering it is now a shell of its former self?
