We never keep ours in its cage for longer than 3 days. I wouldn't open any window or vent even a little. There are youtube videos of budgies getting out of a kettle via the spout. Ours would take the slightest chance to escape from the van and disappear into the wild, where it would either starve or be predated very quickly. No homing instinct at all.
I'm talking about the small gap you can have by using the window catches on the ventilation setting however pulling across the mesh bug covers would stop it getting out so long as they were a good fit.

I heard on the news yesterday that there's a lot of avian flu in the UK now with a lot of areas having restrictions on access/movement so be careful if you plan to take it anywhere with you here.

Their beaks can make a hole in fabric mesh too. Do not underestimate a budgie ...

Actually the restriction on movement of caged birds covers the whole UK now so we are not going anywhere.

I'm not underestimating them but obviously you'd need to supervise so that they don't mount an escape plan and have time to peck a hole big enough for them to get out of!

Not necessarily, there's no reason it can't be allowed to have a fly around inside a MH so long as the windows, doors and roof vents are all closed/only opened a little.
Every reason,It lives in a cage we were told.

You said “there's no reason it can't be allowed to have a fly around inside a MH”
I replied that the bird lives in a cage. (it doesn’t have free access to fly around).🤦‍♀️

It also wouldn't be in a motorhome, my friends are renting an apartment for 3 months, they don't own a motorhome.
I guess I assumed it was in motorhome as it’s a motorhome thread and the replies are mainly based on that.nevertheless I just find it sad that birds live in a cage with no freedom at any time.

Ah, now I see where you're coming from ... I don't know where you got that it lives in a cage, although most pet birds do, but that doesn't mean it's not allowed to have a good old fly around indoors - when my in laws had budgies they were always flying around with the usual yell when we went in to "shut the door the budgie's out"!!! I agree it is sad that many are not allowed out to spread their wings though.

I would love to take a bird on holiday but the wife would not be happy 😆
Nahhhh, you need to compile the list of things the wife wouldn’t need to do, like the black waste, fresh fill, checking tyre pressures, polishing the cab etc, then bundle it up as home help and Bobs ya uncle, sorted……

Look, here are mine doing the odd few jobs required, SWMBO is perfectly happy, as she doesn’t need to do them, winner!! 😇😬😅😅

If all else fails, get her one of these and the rest would be down to imagination……
