Taking the mick?

A SELF INSURANCE IDEA.

If ALL 60,000 members paid £100 that would come off their yearly insurance payment.
That would be £6,000,000 + the extra from their excess on their quote. (Say £500 from an average?)
That would, probably, cover the Bond and Admin costs?

With this extra insurance facility, Jim could put the yearly membership fee up to £50 with the half going into the insurance pot.

Yet another fantastic thought from ....

On my car insurance I always say the car will be garaged overnight.
My daughter recently renewed her car insurance and it was actually cheaper to state parked off the road on a driveway rather than garaged.
So I'll be trying that next renewal 😄

Slight tangent here but still insurance related, just got home & contents renewal through from LV having also received a precursor email ‘explaining’ why costs are increasing.
Last year it was £489, this year they want £850 (with no change in circumstances/cover).

Here we go, time to play the game again…

However does that make sense unless the house & garage is thought to be a fire risk? 🙄

They must judge the risk to be lesser parked on the drive than in the garage, it surprised me.

For those that dont know. Insurace companies use this formula.
Pick a number between 7 an 10 , multply this by 8 , muliply this by 7.5 and add todays date multiplied by the number of month. If the resultant number is less than 800, just keep adding things until it looks too expensive.
Simples .

Just been phoning around as the Winnie is due in early july and its gone from £856 last year to £1072 this year, thats with Safeguard, it does include EU breakdown cover. NFU quoted £1263 without breakdown cover.

We have a Toyota Yaris Cross currently insured with LV last years premium £332 63 . Like you got an email from LV explaining why cost of renewal gone up to £479-12 this year . Went onto the comparison sites and cheapest with Go Compare £386-14. Guess which insurance company that is with ? Yes LV.

Must say I am surprised at some of these premiums people are quoting 🤔🤔I pay a fair bit less for my van and it’s a fairly expensive van🤔🤔

Our van is with LV= just renewed £484 including UK & EU breakdown was £404 last year😊👍

I'm not sure there is an option to self insure is there ? I was under the impression It was a legal requirement to use a recognised insurer under the Road Traffic act 1988
The money had to be in a secure location not heard of it for a long time. Often self insuring was misleading as organisation chose to repair /replace themselves up to a certain amount similar to excess on regular policies

This is allowed and is what some of the big bus companies such as TFL do.
Sadly, it has to be a bond held independently!
Cannot remember by who but probably, the Ministry of Transport, or whatever they call themselves these days? 🤔
Looking at the bumps on here no thanks .my old van will run the same with or without a dent  I'd hate to think.about the cost of some of the gin palaces on here if the unfortunate happened

Some members on here pay more to replace their windscreens than my van is worth! Some of them even have automatic gearboxes 😮
Only the real posh ones with kitchen islands in their gin palaces :roflmto:

Well the renewal has just come in from Comfort £768 last year
£1024 this year😳😳
Really?? Are they taking the mick or what? It’s not my post code that does it because my car and scooter went down Last year but van insurance still went up £100 odd this year all have gone up by a bit but the van insurance too much I think🤷‍♂️🤬🤬
Yes they are, my renewal price with comfort was £485 last year this year £803 !!! So last week rung C,C,C £583, GUESS WHO I WENT WITH?

Picking up the new van next week just got an updated quote from NFU £43 less than when they quoted in April.
£671 for 8000 miles, have to see how we go on the mileage, will probably have to increase it.

BUT as long a one has a solid financial based, with 60 000 members, the premiums coming in will be a constant source of finance.
I sometimes suspect, when there is supposedly horrendous delays fixing said Gin Palaces, the lack of ready finance might well have a bearing? 🤔

Usal guy who deals with Motorhomes on holiday guy I was talking to quoted me without tax so back to £717.
Had a good result as I wanted to change the renewal date as we are often away in April. Starting new policy on the 12th when we pick up the van and cancelling exsisting one full refund just charged for days used no admin charges.

Maybe we could self insure. 3000 Funsters Paying 500 a year. Who wants to hold the cash?
Whilst self insurance would be far to much of an admin issue and would not save any money,
A variation would be to find an independent small broking company.

If they were to get even 50 similar motorhomes as a 'en-bloc' deal.
To start with; All between 5 and 15 years old, and none of the top of the range or bottom of the range, and all of the same size and shape.
(No A Class, No PVC's, no 8m+, No RV's etc.) You could even limit it to the top ten manufacturers initially and no high risk post codes.

Then let them hunt around for the best deal off the entire market.
Win-Win situation.

Once the model has been proven to work, then other types of motorhome could be taken on,
but with the idea of always being 'picky' so that high risk and expensive models may not be included.

The ultimate Motorhome Fun Discount!

I think all the major parcel companies self insure, or at least they used to, but they use independent 'accident management' companies to do all the paperwork etc after an accident

I suspect getting 60,000 paying members might be the first challenge

Just had my renewal through from NFU, last year was £339 this year is £403. This includes 365 days in Europe and cover for other countries including Morocco, called them to discuss this and they said just call when going and green card will be issued.

Why cant I get any sense out of my locals NFU's? Each time I call they promise to ring back but never do.
I suspect they are all seperate brokers some may love motorhomes, others dont want to know. Has anyone gort a good contact for an NFU Branch that IS interested?
Renewal in August so coming along fast,, unfortunately!
