All the gear, and no idea!
Well the renewal has just come in from Comfort £768 last year
£1024 this year😳😳
Really?? Are they taking the mick or what? It’s not my post code that does it because my car and scooter went down Last year but van insurance still went up £100 odd this year all have gone up by a bit but the van insurance too much I think🤷‍♂️🤬🤬

"They all do that, Sir".
You'll have seen all the posts on here and it's becoming very tedious (not the subject or the posters but the feeling that we're all being taken for a ride in spite of the insurers' whining about rising repair costs etc).
For 9 years my Comfort premium increased reasonably but last year it went up by nearly 30% in spite of no claims or change of address or circumstances.
In recent years all my insurance renewals (house, car, motorbikes, foreign health cover) have necessitated much boring and PITA research.

Insurance is a first class rip off these days. More and more money wanted, but loads and loads of small print to trip you up and get them out of paying up even you have been with them for years. The government legislated to stop them charging existing customers more than new customers, but in the absence of any FCA intervention, it's made not a jot of difference to my mind. When did you last see an insurance company go bust?

There is no logic that any of us are party to, there in lies the problem. We cannot understand why some increase and some don’t. Our Comfort insurance has gone up by more than inflation, from £301 to £360 but given some increases we were relieved.

Comfort don't appear to like Carthago's, my Hymer went up by 20% to £520 but I asked for a price for the Compactline they wanted £1000 and can't drive it off the dealers premisses without an alarm & tracker fitted. Both NFU & LV quoted £755 & no alarm or tracker required.

Paid just under £800 for mine when I renewed last October and that had gone up about £60 from previous year🤔🤔🤔

The premium on my BMW Z3 actually went down at this month's renewal. Not expecting the same sort of luck when the motorhome policy is up for renewal in September.

One of the main reasons is the insurance companies being scammed by the claim management companies, vehicles being written off that are barely damaged & no one has actually inspected. They have completely lost control of the repair costs & replacement car hire costs.

I think part of it is that the companies know that there are some clients who display greater inertia about moving. This means that pricing for such clients can then be quite aggressive. Even if some do then bail out it's still profitable business.

I've changed both home insurance and car insurance in the last year for this reason, saving 50% or more.

Insurance companies now also give a splurb about "as you've been with us for a number of years you may be able to get a better premium if you look around". This both acknowledges the practice and allows them to appear honourable (while, I think, only complying with the standards that have been set for them).

Renewed today with comfort £530.00 inc' Europe travel and recovery etc' had prices off comparison sites and a few came in less but by the time I had added recovery and a couple of the other add ons to match comforts policy they were slightly more.
6000 ml and 1 sp30 taken into account.

Cheers Colin 🍻

Just got our renewal from CAMC it gone up from £272 to £314 and we have swapped vans recently for one that cost 10k more. Best other quote I could find was £430. Been with CAMC for quite a few years now.

It’s surprising the different prices being quoted, I know every vehicle and post code is different, but even so!

My insurance went from £485 in 2022 to £595 last year, including Eu and UK breakdown cover, and this year it’s £823. and that’s in a locked garage.
Ringing round and doing comparison sites varies from £753 to £1253

But reading some replies people are paying as little as £314 or as much as £1024.
Like I said early depends what vehicle, but £700 is a big gap.

HI i agree with GUS i know of several people that have had their car written off as being uneconomical to repair when repair costs are a couple hundered even though the cars where worth 3-4 thousand pounds.

Must be a big garage for a MH?

Our car insurance went up when I changed from.parking on the drive to putting it in the garage.

Maybe we could self insure. 3000 Funsters Paying 500 a year. Who wants to hold the cash?
I use to subcontract to a large local construction firm that had over 1500 vehicles and they would self insure, when a car or van got written off they would just keep it for spares.

Self Insuring is a great idea Jim. No less than the MOD does(albeit on a grander scale) sadly 50 claims say @ £ 30,000 would wipe the fund out but there must be away to do it surely

I'm not sure there is an option to self insure is there ? I was under the impression It was a legal requirement to use a recognised insurer under the Road Traffic act 1988
