A photo of litter at Chatsworth posted on Fakebook - looks bad but if you look closer you can see at least one black rubbish bag - probably ripped open by a fox..................

Not every picture is all that it seems

It looks like a designated picnic area

Should not the bag have been collected?
Those sheep look very guilty...probably been up all night partying....

My income tax covers all areas, council tax is local - I pay that as well
Sorry I didn’t know income tax paid for bins , I thought it was local council tax, which made me think you didn’t live here so was not paying for the bins here
For your information 31% of all local authority income is from central government (latest figuresI have not ) - General taxation

And in Scotland we have a higher rate of income tax than in the rest of the UK.

I have not "done" the NC500 but have traveled round Scotland many times. We try to avoid the tourist hot spots except out of season. I agree that local people will tend to go to Inverness for their big shop as there is more choice and better prices. When we are on holiday we do try to buy local and let people know we are in a motorhome.

When people talk about "not doing NC500", can they explain how?

In February we went from Inverness to John O'Groats: we've been up the east coast so we went via Bonar Bridge, Altnahara, Syre, Bettyhill. How many other routes are available?

If we'd wanted to go from JoG to Ullapool, what alternatives are there?

As for 2017 not being as good as 2011, I suspect that can be said about many aspects of life. Times change: it's called life!

My wife is from Thurso, if I were to suggest doing the NC500 I know she would poison me. Just because it's there doesn't mean you have to do it

You go to Scotland and you tour, possibly some of it may be on the 'NC500' but there are many other places and routes available in Northern Scotland that are not on the NC500

I will not go back except to visit good friends maybe one more time . Absolutely loved our 14 years there :-)

Bet you don't miss the horizontal rain and sleet!

That is true . Our kids grew up thinking that was the norm lol
When people here say do we not mind living in deepest France I say it is 25km to Tulle and 50km to Brive not 120 miles to Inverness for a big town lol
My kids had the best childhood up there and a great education :-) Digging peats mind you was not as well received lol

Why not, all things have cost implications, someone has to empty the rubbish, to supply water and facilities for grey and black waste disposal etc. Provided these facilities are provided £10 is still far less than a campsite, or maybe £5 if no services. in USA national parks only self contained vans can overnight where there are no toilets they are checked and issued a sticker. I appreciate that a lot of people are on a budget, but time and again on our travels around Europe we see owners with expensive vans try to freeload whenever they can. Drive off early to avoid paying. If owners are happy for other vans to park on their drive dump their rubbish, tip their waste in the garden and not make a contribution towards their stay then good luck!

'Owners with expensive vans trying to freeload whenever they can' sounds like some members of this Forum.

Went to Tongue school with Frances and served my Apprenticeship with her husband. I also can assure you she does reflect local opinion well most.
Do You have her E-Mail Then?.

I suggest you take that up with "We Jimmy Krankie"?. That was the price paid for devolution. Plus the "formula" still gives Scot`s Residents a larger per capita share of taxation than England or Wales.

Mores to the point shouldn’t the bag been taken away.

If you had room to bring the stuff you’ve room to take it away.

What numpty leaves a black bag on the floor 🤷‍♂️

I keep pointing out

It wasn't one family's rubbish

It was probably collected by staff and left

Probably 2 black bags ripped up by foxes

Just look at the quantity of trash and the way it's spread out....

Fakebook

Then each family can take their own s**t surely 🤔🙄

I'm not complaining :) - the higher taxation could be the start of a re-evaluation of the Barnett Formula.
