🤣🤣🤣 Martin is talking with the Italian guy who doesn't speak Spanish or English. It's an "interesting" conversation to listen to, to say the least.

It's fishing talk, so Martin's managing 🤔 I think 😂
I must admit to only speaking a very few words of Italian so have always got by by speaking my, not so well pronounced, Spanish and have been understood more times than I ever thought possible. It must be the common Latin I think, or have I got that wrong too 😜

The last time we were touring around in Italy we got by with Spanish. It's possible that "Brit" Spanish is easier for the Italians to understand than a native Spaniard would be. Possibly because we speak slower?

We had a quiet night, after our Italian friend had finished his phonecall (we think that's what he was ranting on) although it seemed to us that he didn't need a phone 🤣.

He left early this morning to park early near the lighthouse through Corme.

We saw him again, when we rode there. It's a fantastic place to park, with great views, but we've been there before and done all the riding we can, some of it was redone today, from here.

So, tomorrow, we're off to pastures new.

Today ...

Our Italian friend at the seawater, low tide, swimming area. The sea was still going out.

Yesterday, I looked back to see where we were this time last year. We were caught out on the 16 August, with a local fiesta near Santiago and all shops were closed.

According to Google, the shops here will be open tomorrow. We don't need much, just the staples. Beer and bread 🤣 and something to dip carrots into for our healthy pre lunch starter.

We're both aware that we've collected a few kilos of weight since we left home, so we're now trying to turn that around.

I'm blaming statins (even though the blurb says they don't increase weight). I'm not eating or drinking any more than I've done for years, but this year, for some reason, my weight is creeping up. Taking statins is the only thing we've done differently in the last 18 months.

I'm also blaming my tinnitus on them.

What else can they be blamed for 🤔🤔🤔🤣🤣🤣

Pretty sure statins are the cause of Donald Trump :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

I must say you're right. Sometimes we think Spain as the peninsula and, in this case, Canarias has all year around a very nice temperature.
Nadie se acuerda de nosotros  ni siquiera los meteorólogos en la tele.

Nobody remembers us, not even the weather forecasters on the tele.

Last night we were joined by some noisy fishermen. They arrived at just after midnight and fished and talked (loudly) until just before 4 am when they left after the loud slamming of car doors. That's a first for us 🙁. We were just dropping off when a mozzie buzzed me. We think we got it with a spray. We didn't hear it again anyway.

We didn't wake again until after 8 am 😂

We had a nice sighting of a buzzard surveying the scene before we left to drive to Ponteceso. Martin dropped me off at Eroski to get a bit of shopping whilst he went to the service point. It was so busy, the road and the shop. One day closed 🤣🤣. We've had a dilemma where to go to next. We think the coast will be busy over the weekend so we're staying away.

We're parked at a place we've been before, at the village of Dumbria. It's on the route of one of the Caminos, next to an albergue. It's got shade in the corner spot, where we are, again. (The only P4N photo is of our van here, possibly four years ago).

20240816144411_IMG_0639.JPG

We've been visited by a small cat and a large dog (not together). Martin just had to go to say hello. No dog dazer necessary 😂. We were also given the treat of daytime, very loud, fireworks just as we pulled up 🤔

We've had a short walk and we'll ride from here tomorrow. There's more scope for planning a route now we're not right next to the sea.

Best laid plans, and all that. It's raining. Steady, relentless rain, so no riding for us today. It wasn't forecast 😡

The camino walkers have been passing. They can't stay inside like us.

We're thinking of staying put and riding tomorrow (forecast is better then). We're on a hardstanding so it's reasonably clean underfoot if we do venture outside.

In between rain and more rain, we had a window of dry, but warm weather, so we got out to explore the village. We just made it back before the next rain fell.

The village is small, and mainly buildings on either side of the main road, with a few hamlets scattered further away. A church of Santa Eulalia (Aledo Church in Murcia is also named the same) and lots of horreos (one hiding behind a green screen).

It has accommodation, a bar/shop and another bar that seemed to be closed, an ATM machine and a mix of derelict buildings and newish built houses.

Someone had used the old laundry!

The information board was interesting, but a bit difficult to read.

20240817122954_IMG_0652~2.JPG

Emigration here between 1842 and 1960 began with people from the Americas, mainly Argentina, Brazil and Venezuala, and two from India, then later people from Germany and England! and a few from Switzerland and France. I wonder if their families are still living here?

Have I got this right Peavy ?

The horreo near the church and the church.

Have I got this right @Peavy ?
Well, is the other way around🙂
It's an acknowledgement to the people from this particular place in Galicia who emigrated to those countries. It ends with the phrase "we cannot forget that the sacrifice carried out by those neighbours of us helped to improve the life quality of the ones who stayed here to enjoy our land". Beautiful homage.
It is written in Galician language, not so easy for you maybe, but I speak Portuguese also (well, some, enough to comunicate😀) , so I have some advantage here. Galician language is close to Portuguese language, as you may know.
But you speak Murcian, always a bonus :ROFLMAO:

Thanks. I could read the numbers and put 2 + 2 together incorrectly! I should have picked up on the emigración word though.

Slapped hand for me 🤣

Don't be so hard on you:giggle:
You two are stars.
I remembered you guys yesterday, (as we are enjoying a few vacation days this week and we escaped to a cooler place) because we met an English couple at the fresh water filling point in an area in a small remote village between Teruel and Castelló. He was from close to Portsmouth an she was from Liverpool. "Scouse!" I said (as I just learned, not so long ago that there's that dialect and accent😆). They are living close to Mora d'Ebre in Tarragona, so that started a nice interesting chat. Nice couple.

The forecast was correct and we had a great 40km ride.

Our first point of interest was the sculpture of Vákner

The route splits here. One way to Muxia the other to Fisterra.

We stopped to read a sign and consider how long this particular route would take us. Trondheim in Norway to Fisterra in Spain. It would be a brilliant route to do ...

We then rode small lanes and we're just in time to hear the end of the traditional music as they travelled between villages. A cart being pulled by a car.

Screenshot_20240818_155947_Photos.jpg

We then came across a new building (built 2022) and barbecue area in the middle of a forest. No-one around. If it's not used in the middle of August, when is it used?

We've had lunch back at the van and we're grabbing another night here.

Now the planning of which way to go next begins.

We drove 15km or so to the depressingly situated motorhome area of Mazaricos. It's on tarmac and between two boring buildings, one of which has given us some lovely shade all morning. We intended doing the services and riding from here and then moving on, but we're still here. We don't need to look at a view every day.

The ride was another lovely one, but nothing much to take photos of. We kept following the Euro 3 route and also the Camino. We'd just turned right off the Camino and were heading downhill when, the only car we'd seen for an hour or so, stopped next to us. For once not someone asking for information, but a guy who was concerned we were riding the Camino and we'd missed the turn and was going to put us right. Another friendly local 👍

Tomorrow is forecast to be cloudy/damp so we're going to the laundry. We know of one nearby where we can park right outside the door. I hope the machines are available when we get there 🤞.

So, just a couple of photos today.

Encoro da Fervenza (I think that means reservoir). There used to be a nice place right on the shore, with a small airfield and parking for motorhomes for €4 with leccy. The motorhome part is no longer there 🙁

There is an App washtur we found last winter where you can reserve a machine before going to the laundrette if its part of it😀

Haven't seen any launderettes on that scheme Michael....but I must say an interesting concept...
We are frequent users of this facilities... eventually we run out of cycling gear...however as we only ride as a pair, we can and do wear on a few rides the same outfit....😊

We didn't know which way to go from Mazaricos so we're now at the motorhome area of Vimianzo that we drove past four or five days ago. It was too hot to park there then and there was a fiesta yesterday.

Today, it's not a problem not having shade. We've had a short walk and lunch in the van. Tomorrow, all going to plan, and trusting the forecasts, we're riding to the beach to check out how busy it is there now.

But first, a few photos from here, a non tourist town, with a small castle and one or two other old buildings of interest.

We had a crackin' ride today. Planned specially to visit a parking area on the coast near Laxe. The Dunas de Traba. The area is beautiful, so much so, we rode back and brought the van here today instead of tomorrow.

We're going to ride to Laxe tomorrow and revisit Praia dos Cristais (Crystal Beach) and visit the lighthouse.

We've not explored since we've been parked here. Lots of that to come later.
