Hi Judith/Martin, question for you.
We did the Picos last September and really enjoyed it, weather was great but the aphids were a pain in the butt.
This year we are thinking about Galicia from late September through October. Although we'll be wilding/camperstop a lot, what are your thoughts on campsite availability and the weather at that time of year.
Or should we just do the default and come south?

Terry

My thoughts. If the weather is good when you get to Spain, stay in the north. It's lovely and free parking/camperstops are easy to do/find.

But ... if it's wet you have then got the option of the default position and going south. If you do, please let us know where you are. We need a catchup. It's been far too long ...

And Terry242 this place where we're at presently, is lovely, and riding from there is equally lovely. See my photos, about to be posted.

We've been in this area before, but never stayed here. Today we found ourselves on tracks we recognised, although we approached from a different direction.

We revisited the viewpoint, just 'cos we could, and it was only an 850m detour.

We then descended towards Praia de Niñons. We didn't revisit the beach though, that was a detour a bit longer.

We did another bit we recognised, and we could just see the tower where we parked last year (before the mist rolled in).

The last part of the ride was totally new to us. Lots of tiny lanes, through tiny hamlets and villages.

We're considering staying here until Monday, when we'll need an emptying of certain bits and a filling of the food cupboard/fridge.

There are a couple of places nearby that will fulfil those needs.

Then we went up to the high point, where we've been before.

And a camera "selfie". I couldn't remember how to set the timer 🤭

I spent the other night learning how to do multiple burst photos. This evening will be the timer!

Then, some photos on our way back. Finishing with one of our parking.

We were going to have another night at the beach parking, but there's no shade and 25° was forecast. We need to take care of the fridge, even if we could stand that temperature.

Sooo, we had a quick, short ride to Malpica, first calling in at the Santuario de San Hadrián. A Dutch motorhome was parked in our previously used spot 😂. Malpica was beginning to wake up, even at 10.30 am so we had a quick look at the harbour and left.

We're now hugging a small amount of dappled shade at the area where we parked last year. We'll move down into the parking later. This is at the Capela da Nosa Senora do Faro and Torre De Brantuas.

So the first photos are from our ride.

Galicia is one of the best places to be right now...🥵
Look at the north! 32ºC in Santander!? 39ºC in Bilbao!?

I see on Peavy chart Muros, on the coast, is 20C. We liked Muros and once had 3 completely dry weeks there, unbelievable 😊
Hi Roy...yes Peavy has got it right....20°c
thats the sort of temperature we look for...half of what they are getting back in our end of Spain..
As the cloud rolled in off the sea yesterday completely masking the sun in our current location, it brought a little light mizzle...
We spent the night alone after the last of the day visitors had gone...however I heard a shuffle and the sounds of wild boar around the van in the early hours...but we left nothing of interest for them...Happy days..

We're north of Muros and slowly heading in that direction but we're having to stay coastal because just inland the temperatures soar.

Corme today, and a tourist wander around. No riding for a few days. Rest day for the knees today (after 4 consecutive rides) and rain is forecast for tomorrow. I'm NOT riding in the rain again 😂

We've been up the tower and we're now at Corme, parked at a lovely spot. Now we're not Billy no Mates.

Corme from the top of the tower.

Billy no Mates

Strangely, Corme has two service points, one with parking for 6 motorhomes next to the cemetery and one next to the road into the village, and yet this parking area seems to be allowed, as well as in various other places. It's great for us motorhomers. Long may it last.

Unfortunately, it's just started to mizzle, so we're waiting to go out to explore. But we have an OK view to look at 😂.

We had a walk and found the "supermarket" or rather the "Open all Hours"* shop that's the nearest thing to a supermarket here. Luckily we didn't need much and what we did need, they had 😂.

If we leave here tomorrow, we'll shop in Ponteceso (they have two real supermarkets there).

Photos are, again, a bit out of order.

We've had more light rain, but now the sun is peeking through the clouds but mist is heading across the beach. Its a real mix of weather, but the temperature is perfect.

We've got a few inconsiderate neighbours. One, who has now left to a few places further away, was playing a loud radio, and the other has parked lengthways to the rest of us. Taking up two potential spaces instead of one.

Some people just don't think 🤔🤔

*Open all Hours an old British sitcom. For Peavy jic

This afternoon we had a challenge. Repairing the screen on the Remis side window. We thought the cord had broken, but when we partially dismantled it we found it had just come adrift. Two hours spent, meanwhile the sun came out when we couldn't go out to play 😂.

I've just been out to take a few blue sea and sky photos.

The window. The mesh could benefit from a wash or replacement. But then we'd have to do them all!

jumartoo Everything alright Judith, no post for 25 hours.

Yes all OK. Nothing to post about. It's been grey and wet here. Apart from shopping we've been inside the van. We're hoping to get outside today 🤞🤞.

We're now parked at the Spider (metal sculpture) at Playa de Balares. There's an Italian guy here, fishing (and catching). Small fish, that he's putting back. The weather hasn't put him off. Martin wasn't tempted, he just watched through the window 😂.

We thought it was quiet here, but by evening we had 9 motorhomes. There's a huge new parking area being built next to the entry road, we could see it when we arrived. We'll go and see if there are any motorhome spaces marked out.

Photos may be taken today.

Ahhh ... and thanks for caring 🫠😘

So jealous, we were parked in same spot last year but had better weather and we went swimming. Watch out for dolphins.
Very rough seas...so dolphin spotting is challenging...it may flatten later today...
As you know this spot you may like to know that a large carpark has been made, on the opposite side to the field parking...all hard standing....I imagine this may restrict us in future years....which is a great loss for us, having used this spot for the past 4 years to fish and ride....super place....🇪🇦

We left our parking via checking out the new one. The access is blocked at the moment, but it's a big area. It is next to the Hotel Balares so, hopefully it's for visitors there and we won't be forced away from here in future 🤞.

A lot of Eucalypts have been felled all around the area, and from the road there's now a clear view back here.

20240814103809_IMG_0579.JPG

A bit further along we got a good view of the sandbar.

20240814110953_IMG_0582.JPG

And we could still see the motorhomes.

We rode through many hamlets, again, and eventually arrived at a lovely bridge with recreation area. There were some workers setting up for Fiesta. Martin asked whether it was just for tomorrow, but they're have three days of fiesta'ing there. They sail decorated boats down the river. One of the guys showed us some photos from previous years. People in a bed, on a boat, a car body on another, etc. Sounds like fun, but a nightmare to park a motorhome!

From there we touched back onto Ponteceso and away again. We almost got to Corme but again turned away. We could see Corme, Ponteceso and Laxe from our return route.
