What a small world, I was born in Chellheath, then promoted tTunstall opposite Talisman, promoted again to Fegg Hayes next to miners club, best fish and chips in the world at Jones's and best Oatcakes from small terraced shop on west row. Then went O'posh in AlsagerLoved going the Vale, sneaking in Bycars end.Queens hall on Saturday, Happy Day's
Hoskins estate?
I was born in Baskeyfield place but all my family were born in Ball Hayes Road right in the corner in the tin houses.
Fegg Hayes oatcakes and the chippy were the best around until Sammy Lowes chippy opened in Smallthorne.
We had season tickets for the vale. Dont have time to go any more though.

Hello neighbour
Born in Deakin Road. Did you ever have the pleasure of hearing May complete with gigantic red bead necklace sing Kiss me Honey Honey kiss me, waving a pint pot of bitter in the Knave of Clubs

Possibly not lol.
My auntie Jean and uncle Graeme used to run it in the very early 80s before they left to run the farmers in Ball Green.

Rapides In the 80s-90s as you entered Meir from Blyth Bridge the City Council had signs erected saying Stoke on Trent twinned with Erlangen, someone painted Erlangen out and replaced it with Beirut, the council then replaced it with a sign of a rocket broken in two with the wording Stoke on Trent Nuclear free zone. :giggler:

Highlane oatcakes near Tunstall are the best, filled with bacon and cheese can’t be beaten. Of course we are surrounded by beautiful countryside. There is also Trentham Gardens, although not strictly in stoke on Trent Biddulph Grange gardens now run by the National trust are about 6 miles away.

They never took long loading you at Winsford Mike, ? I think 25t was one and a bit buckets, I seem to remember the bucket held 20t a massive machine and good drivers. ?
Happy days ?................. I think........ or...

We spent many weekends trentham gardens campsite with our caravan, and enjoyed visiting the potteries. ? Bob.
I lived in the village.which is ( Meadow Bank ) over looking the Salt Mine, as a child we would watch the Michigan’s loading the trucks, my mates dad was an operator, “ wow” those buckets were big.

Although born in the old hartsill hospital in 1947 we lived about 15 miles away on the way to uttoxeter on a farm and went to school in uttoxeter, but in 1962 started work at Wilcox bros builders in tean, and we worked all over the potteries, mainly for PMT , we changed all the old concrete bus shelters for the metal ones that have gone as well now, we also built the bowling alley over the longton bus station, we also went to Rhyl and actually had our honeymoon on the robin hood camp on the way to prestatyn.
We used to go to Stoke speedway in sun street Hanley on Saturday nights.
Loads of old memories.

Waggon and Hosses was the rougher of the 2, my ex brother in law kept the Tiger Moth on Sandon Road for a few years in the 70s another rough pub.
I was born in Longton 1950, and when I first married I moved to the Meir in 1970 until 1987 when I moved back to Longton and still live there now. I started work at Florence Pit in 1965 and part of my apprenticeship in 1967 I was put with an area mobile team working at Chatterley Whitfield Colliery changing over one of the steam power houses to electric, and changing 4 of the steam winders to electric leaving the main Hesketh shaft and powerhouse on steam. Moved from there to Holditch Colliery ( Brymbo ) putting new screens in, and then Norton Colliery ( Bellerton ) FinalIy moved to Wolstanton Colliery in 1968 until 1970 mostly underground.

Not a stokeie by any means but love the place , had many happy hours up there, all the pop concerts up Hanley and Stoke in the 60s, the waggon and hosses is now a NHS drop in centre where I go to have my blood checks, how time passes eh

Small world John.
We live on Norton heights and can still see some of the workings ?just off Bellerton lane.
Regarding pubs.
The knave is probably one of the roughest pubs i drink in apart from the elephant and castle ( jumbo) what was in fegg Hayes.

Hi.
Queueing up outside around the boundary fence, then again inside.... to get in took longer than loading,i think the shovel bucket held about 14 ton then..Get to destination/map grid ref. and tip, often a "Lay bye" out in the middle of nowhere, get a stick out of the hedge, sign the note " E. Adam "and stick it in the Salt.....Now then.. Do you remember, late '60s. the little garage outside where you could diesel up? There was a young lady worked there, she had a bigger milk round than the Co-oP,she was a good sport though, allways smiling. " Oh for one of those hours of gladness.... Gone alas, like our youth to soon " (Kerry Dances)

We used to go to Stoke speedway in sun street Hanley on Saturday nights.
Loads of old memories.

I was in Stoke army cadet band which sometimes played at the speedway during interval,
also we played at Stoke city during the interval when Sir Stanley Mathews made his comeback to Stoke City at the age of 50, I think it was 1963.

To give you an idea of what my collection looks like I have attached a photo of a sample of items that I displayed at an antiques and collectables fair a few years ago. The other two photos are of the mural I mentioned earlier and the bottle kilns at the Gladstone Pottery Museum. You can just see our old motorhome parked to the left. Thanks Ryan-flea. You prompted me to look up my old photos from 2008. Happy memories.View attachment 373296View attachment 373301View attachment 373302
We live about a mile from those Bottle kilns .

We live about a mile from those Bottle kilns .
We spent six months touring the UK in a motorhome we bought from British Car Auctions in 2008 and one of the most memorable days we spent was in Stoke-on-Trent. The museum was jaw-droppingly fantastic. So good I visited again three years later. The Gladstone Pottery was also a highlight. I can’t remember where we stayed in Stoke, but we would have wild camped because we very rarely stayed on sites, although it might have been a CL.
People are often surprised when I say Stoke was one of our favourite towns. It seems to get a bad press, along with Hull and Redcar, but we liked them too.

Also just let others know the museum has just had a massive facelift .That part of Stoke seems to have abottomless pit of money being spent on it .

THE DIFFERENCE IF YOU MARRY A STOKIE GIRL!......
Three friends married women from different parts of Britain. The first man married an Essex girl. He told her that she was to do the dishes and house cleaning. It took a couple of days, but on the third day he came home to see a clean house and dishes washed and put away. The second man married a Yorkshire girl. He gave his wife orders that she was to do all the cleaning, dishes and the cooking. The first day he didn't see any results but the next day he saw it was better. By the third day he saw his house was clean, the dishes were done, and there was a huge dinner on the table. ....The third man married a girl from Stoke. He ordered her to keep the house cleaned, dishes washed, lawn mowed, laundry washed, and hot meals on the table every day. The first day he didn't see anything, the second day he didn't see anything either,...... but by the third day, some of the swelling had gone down, he could see a little out of his left eye and his arm was healed enough that he could fix himself a sandwich and load the dishwasher. He still has some difficulty when he urinates...
