I'm a newbie
I've been writing here about my saga with Marquis. I bought a new motorhome from them on 14th August, paid in full the following week with the promise I could collect it three days later which they then cancelled - and I'm still waiting.

Every week they come up with they come up with a slightly different excuse and I've had enough. I am now getting a refund and hope never to deal with Marquis again.

I would seriously suggest that you don't go anywhere near them and to advise everyone else to do the same. They are utterly useless.

I bought our Autocruise from Cranhams paid a deposit and arranged a pick up date, a couple of days before they phoned, can you pay the rest? No I will pay when I pick it up, she wasn't happy but accepted it.
That made sure it was cleaned and ready when we arrived and it was.

Marquis businesses are listed under around 10 or so different named locations .

Be careful not to name and shame the wrong one.

We went to Premium at Bawtry with a big wadge of brass burning an hole in my pocket trying to buy our very first motorhome.

They never even came out to see us walking around despite knocking on the door, ringing the bell and even waving to a lady through her office window.

Needless to say we spent it elsewhere

I called ahead and when I arrived the motorhome was open and plugged in Matt came out and showed me around, maybe Matt and Mike was not there when you called which is a shame as you say they missed a sale

Maybe the sender's bank has extended the limit? Barclays is 100% £25,000 as are most banks, part of their anti-fraud measures. Point is, the op needs to be careful that he is asking for something that is feasible.
Not true, purchased a motorhome via my Barclays account, and the limit is £100k if you use the website. It is MILES less if you use the phone app though. (£10k). Trick is to transfer around £1-2k first to setup as a "authorised payment" and then once done a week later move the final sum. If it's all to a new payee the limits are "lower".

When I had to pay for my van I transferred the full amount of money from my Lloyds account into my Revolut account then sent it over in one go😳😳
First time I had used Revolut so was on the phone to the German dealer in the afternoon, they confirmed it went through ok🥵🥵

Not sure i understand some of the comments around how to pay and limits as when we purchased our Rapido A Class, after the trade in we were left with 55k which i just paid by debit card once i was there and after i inspected the vehicle ie chip and pin. Went straight through (didn't have to call the bank or anything else) so no need to mess around with bank transfers, its just a lot easier to use a debit card as long as the money is in there of course. Also with debit card they have the money instantly and i would never pay before seeing the vehicle ever no matter what any dealer said or implied or excuse they come up with around registering documents or whatever. If they didn't like that then i would not proceed with the purchase, it's as simple as that really.

When we sold our previous van we sold privately for £28k, money into Nationwide. Following day we bought our present Hymer, for £51k. BUT Nationwide played hardball paying for the Hymer. We spent almost 4 hours on the phone trying to get them to pay the Hymer owner. Worse than pulling teeth. This was 6 years ago.

Hopefully by now (past midday) SirPooley has received the full amount he paid to Marquise, and can put the whole sorry affair down to experience.

On another note, don’t quite understand some of the issue around the transfer of fund between 2 parties. Brought our first MH back in 2018 and paid the money (quite a substantial amount) via online banking I had to call my bank and the seller had to call their bank so both us and each of our banks oversaw the transfer, the sellers bank immediately transferred the money to another account, so it could not be recalled. The whole process took less than 3 mins.

It was done via a transaction ID using the BACS system. All about anti-money laundering. I hate that I feel I'm making excuses for them! It will be sorted. I've waited weeks so one more weekend won't make much of a difference.
AML AIUI only applies on inbound funds. For them to pay you it shouldn't be required. They should have done those checks before you transferred funds "inbound" if required to make sure of your "source" of funds. I'm not aware of any legislation applying such to a refund. " refunds are only made by the same method to the same account" -> is the usual caveat here. But I sense they are messing you around again as there is no legal reason for this. Well thats what the training I've done for AML for a UK bank that I worked for said (I didn't work customer facing so couldn't help sorry said in its training). (If you are asking for it to go to a different account then AML would apply to my understanding).

Yes we paid for our new van by debit card (chip and pin) at the time of collection in July 2021. No phone calls to bank required.

Yes recall buying a caravan about twenty years ago…..brand new for £14k from White Arches….. ow that’s inflation…

we paid by debit card, had to call the bank to confirm….took 5 mins……

similarly purchased a horse box about five years ago for well over £100k, and just did two transfers. Think we already had PRB as a payee?

You have no idea how much I paid for this bike!
I had a look at e-bikes at my friends shop , the dearest he had was £12k. Santa Cruz, too young to get one anyway and I much prefer my Ti hardtail. 😁

£25K limit at HSBC no matter which way you do it or if the payee is a first-time or regular transaction.

It's not possible to do that by my bank (Halifax). You simply cannot transfer money online greater than a certain amount that was well below the £75.5k I was transferring. I think it was £25k or something like that.

The only way I could do it was to physically go to the bank branch in person where I sat with a member of staff who painstakingly went through every element of the transfer and asked a load of anti-fraud questions.

No, nobody had instructed me to do this (well, apart from the actual company I was actually paying).
No, nobody was listening in on the conversation via my phone.
No, I hadn't become involved in an 'online romantic relationship' where they were asking me to transfer this.

etc.

Somewhat comforting, I suppose, but you would have thought a bank could tell from the sort code and account number who the money was actually going to.

It's Marquis Berkshire. I've been there in person on several occasions.

When you get your money back make them a cash offer for your van (even try offering a few grand less than you paid 1st time), then mess them about before finally saying no thanks you're $h1t
