Starlink ordered… I feel it’s the only sensible option now..

I like that it's all hidden once the cable cutout is complete. Quite tidy, can't see any issues with leaving the pole attached whilst driving as long as secure. Also this method will save putting it on the floor which I didn't like but what doesn't work for one can work for another.
Thanks Zac, your cable end protectors are in use too!

Nope, would definitely be too light for that.
Thought it looked a little light on the securing clips. Does the job though if you don’t need it fixed while driving.
👍

That’s a lot stronger looking for sure.
Carpmart and couple of other members needed it to be a permanent fixture capable of staying put even when driving. It’s quite a heavy router and wouldn't fair well if to flew across the van.

No not yet. If ever. Vapour ware ????
Every time I look the ship date has changed. Email remains unanswered
Very little info or reviews that I can find other than Overlanders
I still like the idea of it though to simplify my set up. Dump the Starlink router in favour of my tiny Glinet router
I was going to use a quick waterproof connector about 1 meter from dish which I current plonk on roof and then the exact length of cable to my router. All neatly installed
Then a second long cable if issues with trees etc
I will leave order in place as there has been no charge yet

est shipping now 26th sept - 2 oct.

Shame really as they are probably passing us from China to the USA then back again

I must say, Starlink continues to impress. We are at the start of a looong Euro tour and the three places we’ve used it so far, I’ve been getting 120-200 Mb down…. Happy Days!!

One observation, I seem to be connected to a German ground station at the moment, do the French not have any Starlink ground stations? Latency is poor, 90ms+

This is worth a read through. Unofficial map of ground stations included, scroll down. https://starlinkinsider.com/starlink-gateway-locations/

Totally get why you are taking this route, there is a considerable amount of daylight between mobile data providers marketing rhetoric and delivery, at best it's grim and getting worse. I'm really interested to see how you progress, good luck with you install.

Yes, same here. It is very sensitive to obstructions - no surprises there. Had mine on the ground next to motorhome and getting decent but not fantastic downloads 40+. Another motorhome pulled in beside us and even though the Starlink didn't visually appear to be obstructed the download went to crap.
Shifted it onto the roof and immediately got 120+ downloads.

Had a reply to my email:
Sorry, the third party service we use to manage pre-orders has very confusing language on this. There is no need to pay in advance, we will automatically charge your method of payment when we fulfill the order. Also, happy to report that you'll see a shipment notification in the next few days!

Had a reply to my email:
I just got a reply to my mail yesterday

“Thanks for reaching out and sorry for the late reply! Overwhelming demand coupled with manufacturing slowdowns and supply chain issues have us running pretty far behind schedule and we're so sorry we couldn't get your order to you on time. In a spot of good news, we've just received a large shipment and you'll see a shipment notification within the next couple of days!”

So it my still arrive ?!

Similar reply from Boondocker to me as well:
" due to supply chain issues we are currently running behind schedule. We hope to get it out to you before the end of the month!"

Was fun watching Starlink closing down for an hour last night. Apparently there was a solar flare and they all deployed their shields! Lots of conspiracy theories on the Starlink groups!
Cheers

I have now installed our Starlink Roam with a Peplink router and it works a treat..:giggle: Need to be mindful of parking under trees though... Otherwise terrific data throughput and can stream HD TV anywhere (in the world).

Is Starlink Roam with a Peplink Router the ultimate MH internet solution?

Now that the Camino (Tiekom) service has had its day and the continued roaming data challenges, as well as crappy data service in the UK, I’ve had enough of pratting around as I just want always on, full service broadband wherever I am.

So, the solution (I hope) is a Starlink Roam order was placed today. £460 for the hardware, £95 per month for the service. I know some may consider this expensive but I will no longer need a data tariff SIM in the UK for the Netgear, nor will I need the Tiekom data SIM for between 5 and 8 months per year and I can knock back the Popit SIMs to 10Gig each, so the difference is not that great really.

I’ve worked out a spot on the roof where I will be fitting a small frame to mount the dish whilst parked up. It will be a couple of mins job to climb ladder and four wing nuts to secure, connect the cable and job is done!

The cable will be permanently installed through the roof into my existing media cupboard and at present I will power from my main inverter, but I may switch to a small 250w Victron pure sine wave inverter just for this in the future, so I don’t have to leave the main inverter on all the time.

Starlink quote around one KWh of power consumption per day. The peak power consumption is 75w and average consumption seems to be in the 35w range (230v power ratings). Many North American RV users are suggesting that the power consumption is way better than Starlink suggest and better than they expected.

A new feature from Starlink should help with power use as you can set ‘night periods’ where the system shuts down during set hours to reduce power consumption. I’ve ordered and will fit another 200w solar panel to augment the existing solar. I actually needed a larger Amperage Victron MPPT and some bigger cable to the batteries as well, so not the cheapest exercise… 🤦‍♂️

I’ve purchased a compact almost purpose designed electrical box to store the 75ft cable in on the roof when travelling. This will enable me to move the dish from the roof to the ground should I have obstacles obstructing the dish, but very easily without too much faff.

Will try and document a ‘how I did it’ incase it is of interest and or use to others and will of course let everyone know how good (I hope) this is…..

🤞 the expectation and promise from Starlink matches real world performance. Watch this space! 🤪
I am interested. Do you get unlimited data?
Thanks

So far as I know, yes.👍

However, there’s probably some caveat hidden away somewhere (or ready to roll out at some point in the future).

is that the really expensive flat one? does this one still come with it's own router and if so which method did you use to bypass it?

Did anyone order/receive the Dishy Dualie DC Power Supply just wondering how it worked out and lived up to expectations.
Yes, I have one. It does what it claims to do. I wired in a couple of switches so that I can switch off the power supply, the other to switch off power to the USB powered router (GL.iNet)

Had well over an hour of downtime on 3 last night as well.

I use a glinet router so will do something similar. Will need the dishy Dulie in hand to work out how. Supposedly dispatch imminent

wiring a on/off switch into the Dishy Dualie is really easy. the gizmo has a couple of connectors for you to attach the wires from your switch into.
For the usb powered router, I just use an inline 12v switch and route the usb power through it.
