Speeding France

Think it’s the other way round.
In the UK it is the driver that gets done, that’s why they don’t chase foreign drivers who break the law here, unless the nick them on the spot.

Richard.
In UK, if you cant name the driver they take the reg owner to court, that is why the "rich and famous" have all their cars under a company, pay the average £400 fine for being unable to name the driver thus they avoid the points as they cannot prosecute the speeding offence

I was wondering whether the French use the Hypotenuse correction figure, the UK does not use it and they have to make an allowance because of that.
Remember the equilateral triangle the further to side of the camera gun and the higher it is, the greater the actual reading is, compared to the actual speed of the vehicle.

Hmm, interesting, I too have just paid my fine 88 kph in an 80 kph zone. There were extenuating circumstances but I make no excuses. I committed the offence however I am 67 years old and still have a full clean licence and always have since I started driving.
I consider myself very lucky in fact I feel I should send the French a letter of thanks. ;)

what will happen when we leave the EU , will the French still be able to send fines through the post and should the recipient choose to ignore them will they be able to do anything ?

I think that will depend on Deal or No Deal.(y)

You could possibly ignore the fine and get away with it but
would you want to return to France in the same vehicle.
Within 5 minutes of landing an ANPR camera will have made the rozzers aware of your return. :Eeek:

Richard.

do the British Authority's chase offending drivers from other Eu country's ?

Or any vehicle if you have a personal reg.

No.

So it’s all Noel Edmonds fault?

Anyone caught being in possession of an offensive beard, such as the one Noel Edmonds exhibits, is bound to be at fault.:D2;)

I'm surprised you got done for being just 4 kph over the limit. I was always lead to believe you had 5 kph grace. Must be a Brexit thing.

The 5kph had already been taken off so they were originally 9kph over.

I was flashed yesterday doing 92 (sat nav) kph on a 110 kph. How does that work  90 sign was not for a further 300 meters

Probably thought you were a truck.
Doubt you will hear anything.

Probably activated through size and thought you were a hgv - I've had this happen in the UK and France and mines a PVC too.

Edit LOL @Clarky beat me

hardly fair , perhaps it about time the UK authority's started to reciprocate
You are all too busy cocking up Brexit to waste time trying to catch we imigrunts you side of the water

I think they're set to catch trucks. I got flashed at least 6 times on our last trip each time I was legally doing 100km/h.

Every one was on a dual carriageway or motorway talk about revenue raising - and then Macron suppresses news about the gilet jaunes.

Bought a new car and for the first time in a long time the car came without the EU GB tab on the number plates. We intend taking the car over in the autumn and being the diligent person I am, I started looking at the legal requirements for size and type of GB sticker required as you see metal letters, small ones etc. The DVLA does not specify (well where I looked anyway) so decided that a 99p magnetic one would be the way forward. So googling some sites for info/thoughts, some ne'er-do-well has suggested taking the magnetic plate off when in France and the authorities there would then have some difficulty in knowing that the vehicle was British. I assume that the French photo the front of the vehicle so perhaps you do not even need to take the plate off.
Has anyone been caught speeding in France who does not have the EU sticker on the front number plate? I can see the back one being a legal requirement but are we suckers for having the details on the front?

Registrations are reasonably easily identifiable by their format alone, except the UK's obsession with personalised plates, but those too, would not be confused for a French, Spanish, Italian etc etc that would still have their own country ident.

After Brexit it'll not make any difference what you do cos they are gunna get you big time for upsetting their club.

The answer is in earlier posts if you care to read them.

thought you were a lorry .They also do it the other way around by siting a camera immediately before it duals & goes to 110kph expecting the cars/vans/motorhomes to accelerate early.scum all of them, they want setting on fire.

No. I'm British and have a French reg car. The last time I visited the UK back in Feb I had an argument with a traffic warden. Basically I parked on a single yellow line outside the public toilets. I was bursting to have a pee. As I got out the traffic warden appeared from nowhere, said you can't park there. I told him I was just going to pee. He wouldn't have it. He said I am going to give you a ticket. I replied go on then and dashed into the Public convenience. I saw him take out his book an was about to issue the ticket when he saw the French plates. I was in and out in less than a minute. He wandered off. No ticket.

What many people are failing to grasp is that apart from the USA and Russia, France has more nuclear weapons than any other country. Post-brexit, France won't just be sending speeding tickets to offending drivers in the UK, it will be nuking their vehicles remotely.
