Speeding France

what i notice about this , is the fine letter is all in english so they must be well set up to know its an english vehicle and have special print outs just to use for british cars. usually everyone gets the notice in whatever language the actual offence was in.

There's going to be some 'upset' french drivers on the road when I go across this winter. There'll be queues a kilo long behind me.

I refuse to pay the authorities one sou to help them. I will drive like a nun on her way to mass.

I got a training course yesterday. Coming back from the IOW last night, I followed a bloke doing..... wait for it...... 21mph in the 30mph zone at Chideock.

There won't be any queues, they'll see you as a challenge and overtake you on a blind corner just to make it interesting......

That’s only because of lazy UK officials who state that it’s not cost effective to pursue foreign registered vehicles for speeding fines.
No ,it is because the UK insists on the driver being fined, wheras everyone else gives it to the owner. as it is just money raising.

Not any more.
It is the " cross border directive" the penalty notice has to be in the language of the country the vehicle is registered in. They also have 12 months from the date of the offence to send the penalty charge notice.speeding is one of the 8 offences that come under the directive.

I also got done € 90 again the fine arrived paid that morning all the fine and forms were in English there is a telephone number just for the English I spoke to him he was very helpful.
I’ll be home tomorrow and scan all the paperwork and put it on here.
On the fine it as a long number I enter it on there website and bang paid, easy.

Just waiting for one after heading off the motorway into Ypres, the weather was shocking and thought it was lightning at first, never saw another flash so suspect I may have been captured on camera, time will tell:frowny:

Yep, I got caught on 18 May, letter arrived today. 61 kph in a 50 zone, my own stupid fault - one of those “not very built up” areas, and end of a long hassly day’s drive. We’d expected €45, so it’s helpful to know why it arrived and was €90.

Payment seemed very straightforward - enter a 16 digit code, another 3 digit one, and pay by card. But if you delay payment over 76 days, it’s €375.

So, can and when can a foreign country put points on your licence?

Stirring the dooh dahhh with a big paddle
Has anyone actually received a fine
Then ignored it
Then gone back to France.
Was there any repercusions.
I understand if they are languishing in jail I may not get a reply to this question

I did read on a facebook site where someone had said their insurance had not paid a minor claim because they failed to declare a speeding fine in france. Not sure how true it is, after all it is facebook so should be taken with a pinch of salt.

Anybody tried these ?

Any good ?

Or a con ?

Most probably but then so are a lot of personalized plates ?

They will get you pulled by any police car with ANPR. They are illegal like miss written private plates, but a miss written private plate still shows on their system, so can provide insurance/mot status. So police don’t tend to be bothered.

Some Fleabay sellers have a very flexible concept of legality.

Caveat emptor as the Romans would say.

What's the Latin for "beware of les Flics et Radars" ?

So, can and when can a foreign country put points on your licence?
They can't. I have been nabbed twice in France, minor excesses in a French registered vehicle. I have a UK licence and the Gendarmes, cos I paid at the Gendarmerie, took my shillings and said they can do nothing re points .... unless ... the offence is considered serious and one lives in France, they can force a change of driving licence and then apply the penalty accordingly. Remember, the latter part is only for those who "live" in France. Whilst living within the EU there is no obligation to change a licence

We were told loads and loads of Motorhomes are getting flashed in France and I can only assume they are really clamping down with no leeway given. France must be desperate for money me thinks, no wonder the Yellow Vests are revolting.

It would be ironic if the outcome was that, by applying the French system, if you had points on your UK licence for speeding in the UK they would be automatically deducted by reason of speeding in France. :D:D:D

What happens if you have forgotten who was driving that day, they changed the law in the UK to make the owner liable, but have they done likewise in France?

No,or anywhere else. Car owner gets the fine.it is why the UK doesn't chase foreigners as they want the driver.

Think it’s the other way round.
In the UK it is the driver that gets done, that’s why they don’t chase foreign drivers who break the law here, unless the nick them on the spot.

Richard.
