Hi all its going to be our first trip to Spain in April and we were planning to use the Long Road South route. We have now realised our 2009 Broadway is too old for a crit aire sticker and so we are going to have avoid the ulez zones eg. Rouen, Bordeax etc, man plans, God laughs!!! I guess that we are not going to be the only ones in this pickle and wondered if any of you old hands suggestions for alternative routes.

2001 Hymer, no we can’t have a Crit Air sticker.

Have you tried?

This is what the sign looks like in Rouen just before you get near the town, if you look you can see the different catogories on bottom of sign and a big 0 on top, no idea wat it means though !!!!! View attachment 861601
Going in two weeks will look out for it. We are critaire 3 so think we are ok.

Ours is 2003. I think we're better off not having one. I reckon the likelihood of straying into a zone is slim but if I do they're going to find it harder to fine me if they dont have our details

It really is pretty easy to get through France without going near low emission zones. Just keep out of the big cities.

You can get a crit air sticker for any age of van. It will not mean you can enter the zones, but you can get one if you wish.
OH NO!!!! Certainly not. All vehicles can't have a crit' air sticker. I don't have one for my 1996 petrol Skoda estate, and none just the same for Max my 1991 diesel Hymer

"La Crit'Air 4 concerne uniquement les voitures diesel immatriculées entre 2001 et 2005 (Euro 3) et la Crit'Air 5 est décernée aux voitures diesel immatriculées entre 1997 et 2000 (Euro 2). Restent les véhicules hors catégorie qui n'ont pas droit à une vignette : les diesels et essences immatriculés avant 1997 (Euro 1).25 janv. 2023"

As I understand the system one must have a Crit' Aire sticker if entering any town/city which has the authority to enforce a ban on certain vehicles if pollution levels reach certain limits, whether or not a ban is in force.

So technically a vehicle without a sticker cannot enter such a town/city at any time, whether there is a ban or not, including vehicles for which they will not issue stickers.

Welcome to the 'Mad Hatter's Tea Party'.

[Somebody with a 2001 vehcle cannot get a sticker. We have a Nov 2002 base vehicle(2003 MH) and have a Class 4 sticker, so who gets the Class 5 stickers?]

But what happens if you did drive into a banned zone, (like I have) how do they know…? Police, cameras…?

Same question for Frankie… yodeli

Hi!
Not at the same level in each town. Some have decided not to check or not to "punish"
For example in Perpignan, the crit' air 3 is forbiden but the Maire has decided not to stick to the law, and leave alone the "poorest" who can't afford to change car.

See here:
https://www.challenges.fr/automobil...nent-a-bannir-les-voitures-des-pauvres_837635

The way of checking is therefore different. I don't think that the new machines are already working . There must be one or two towns which have them to test them . But it's not on the whole territory right now. In Toulouse it should be working by mid 2024

Finally , here is a map telling you where you have to have it .

Sorry if I didn't take the time to ask a full translation to Mister Google. I need my beauty sleep ... if you don't mind :giggle::sleep:

Oh and Just smiffy ... just pray you don't get caught! Cause if so, you won't have only the crit'air sticker checked!!!!!

OMG!!! Thank you every one, its all as clear as mud now🙄🤣😂. I think the sensible solution is just to avoid any cities and take a longer route. I must admit I was a bit nervous about the Rouen bit anyway. So, it's back to the drawing board ie Tomtom. Once again thank you everyone and safe travels.

As long as you stick to the route I posted earlier I really wouldn't worry about Rouen its very easy. I came through 3 times last year and no fines. Just dont blindly follow your satnav ( not a good idea in Rouen anyway).

Our 2004 MH, based on Fiat Ducato Diesel, is Class 5. We have the sticker in the glovebox and haven't displayed it, not sure if we will.

1957 Motorbike and 1966 Sports car the system just went tilt. :ROFLMAO:

I decided to apply for a Crit Air on Friday night. I did it on line, paid by PayPal and this morning received an mwssage saying the sticker was being dispatched and that attached to this email is your invoice for you can present until your badge arrives. Pretty painless. I am not sure we will actually enter any zones, but for €4.76 it is not worth having the worry.
Safe and happy travels all.

Hi, our van is 1985, it does not seem to be possible to get a crit air sticker for this age of a vehicle. Do you know where they are available from?
Thanks
I've just got one , when put in crit air the French website came up , easy to apply for and a few Euros, make sure it's the official site

Thanks for that Lesw,
I have tried many times, on the French site, I must be missing something,it repeatedly states that a certificate is not available for this (1985), age of vehicle.
I would love to see your crit air certificate for a 1986 vehicle.

That is one strange reply, --there is no crit air certificate available for a 1985 vehicle!
Except you own one like Lesw ? -perhaps.
I would appreciate a direction as to how you think you can get one?
