SORN

Unfortunately we don't have sorn in Spain, but then it's only €73.42 for the motorhome. 😁
But I do like to jump in and go so wouldn't bother, knowing me I would want to go just before the start of a new month and loose out. 🙄😁 Bob.
just a note that that is in the region where Bob lives.:( here we have to pay proper amounts .mine's 150€ ish ,I think? The other thing is tax is due from january 1st ,so whoever owns it then is liable for the whole year. There is no refund.

I like to give mine a 10 mile run every month, BUSBY.

sorn on mine from 01/11 i will retax from 01/03/22

But when it's only one Motorhome & only £13.75 a month I can't be bothered & I'm fairly certain we will be using it in Dec, first couple of days of Jan & then hope to get down to Spain in Feb.
That's 45 pence per day , as is ours - and at that cost I'd much rather have it available. I might want to use it tomorrow for the day, or next weekend for a change of scenery. It's a price I can live with, but I suppose it you're fairly sure you're not going to need it on an impulse, it makes sense to have the cash back.

A shame to buy a Moho for only half s year of use but as we live in ours it gets the full 100% and is much cheaper than heating the house 😀

We have a different take on it though we are not out overnight in our 21 year old Hymer Eddie reckons that taking it out once a fortnight keeps everything running smoothly and keeps trouble away, we have done this for the past 17 years we've had the van touch wood it seems to work so I don't see the point in sorning the van and spoiling a form in the formula that works for us.
Do this as well I'm sure the savings giving the van the odd run saves more long term than what I would sorning the van

No, but as we decided not to go abroad and with the weather getting colder it's very unlikely that we'll go away in the UK (I do NOT do cold!), so it seemed the sensible thing to do, if we do change our minds we can always re-tax it.
christmas dinner planned in the New Forest......

I reckoned the Money saved by making a sorn even if its only a month, its better in my bank than the Governments, it only takes a few minutes to re tax

But if you SORN it you only get a refund up to the end of the previous month, then if you need to tax it 2 weeks later you have paid twice for the current month.

We did SORN ours last year for the first time, had planned to this year but habitation check got cancelled in October and is now tomorrow, 1st December in Yorkshire which is a pain in the bum so hardly seems worth bothering now. We’re phoning before we leave today as we don’t want to be nearly there before we get the call again cancelling us! Not there fault I hasten to add, we’d left a few days early to have a mini break, only so many days I want to spend in Knottingley area in December! A day trip to Leeds on the train tomorrow will be enough.

Sorned my VX220 and my Renault RS Megane while we were away in the MH for 2 months Saved nearly £120!

VX costs £350 a year to tax and only dies 2000-3000 miles a year!

Sorn on the last day of month - re-tax on 1st of month. No point in doing less than a month.

Dont they charge for road tolls instead though?
Only some motorways and they are easy to avoid. We found some of the alternative routes on our trip really fast, good roads free of traffic. Really did make me think about emigrating to France or Spain!

When i think over the years how much i have left in DVLAs account through not SORNing i feel embarrased.
I have had as many as 7 vehicles parked up here in UK taxed whilst we have been overseas for month's on end.
One car is £585 p/y to tax.🐎🐎🐎🐎(nearest i could find to a donkey:giggle:)

hope your wife is ok. ok.pj lets hope its a happy new year.
Thanks, yes she is well on the way to recovery. We were in the Picos and she fell and smashed her shoulder, has had a replacement joint.

Is it legal for a British registered vehicle to be used in France without any uk road tax?

Dont they charge for road tolls instead though?
Yes indeed but your choice or not to use toll roads . If à péage is the only option then that part is free .
I added up our tolls against the road tax we would have paid on our vehicles and they were a fraction and yes we do use toll roads quite a bit of time .

Is it legal for a British registered vehicle to be used in France without any uk road tax?
No it has to be fully legal in it's home country. So MOT required as well.

NO, it has to be road legal as if it were being used in it's country of registration, so tax, MOT and insurance required.

Not if you SORN at the end of the previous month, if you are daft enough to SORN part-way through and then want to use it again that same month then you will pay twice ... I suppose there are some muppets out there who'd get it wrong ... you're not one of them are you? :giggle:

I agree with Carol, I like to give mine a run every few weeks just to keep everything moving. Machines don't like to stand and not move and could give expensive issues to fix later.
Also, are you insured if the van is not taxed ?
Yes you will still be insured so long as you are NOT using it on the road, ie it's just laid up.

I am out of days to go to Europe until next year,, can I have some of yours,,😃😃 BUSBY.
Let me think .... ... the words 'a', 'chance' and 'not' come to mind! :giggle:

I didn’t SORN mine I sold it and bought a new car.
