Soooo ... Galicia it is again 👍😊

Yes, the weather is a problem. We could be having some cloud/rain again in the next few days around here.

We could drive south for an hour and be back in 35° temperatures.
It was exactly the same in late June, some of it was great and we were in the sea but started losing too many days to rain and poor visibility in the end so diverted inland.

Not sure how far along you are yet but we found Tapia de Casariego a nice stop, scruffy free aire with sea view but a nice inlet port still with a bit of fishing,

have you tried Valdavino, Esmelle and Doninos

We were at Valdoviño two years ago and we cycled round here, hence knowing this place existed. Two years ago there were municipal signs saying no motorhomes but they are no longer here.

I'll check out the other places you suggest. Thanks x

We decided to stay put here for today and then tomorrow get some supplies and go to a private motorhome area and use some leccy to charge the bike batteries. It's been a grey, but warm day here so not good for solar!! We have a few more days of grey forecast, then back to sun, so we don't want to go far from the coast and into the heat. We'll sit it out for a bit longer.

We had a short walk today on an unsuccessful hunt for some bread. It's not the end of the world, we have beer and wine and pasta.

What a difference the 🌞🌞🌞 makes, though.

The purple flowers (weeds to some, I know) are lovely, and Martin was impressed by the stone work, especially the intricate infills, on the wall of the building.

We succumbed to the sun gods (or rather lack of) and went to find a newly opened motorhome parking behind a restaurant not far from Ferrol that had full services. Except that it's not open yet! We need charging for the bike batteries, the solar system is coping with the van side of things.

Anyway, we pulled into a field and saw the work being done. Martin, being Martin, went to speak to the owners. In true Jumar style he came back with permission to charge the bike batteries at some plug points near the bar. A few hours later we were good to go and we had a lovely ride in a mixture of warm sun and drifting missle.

We got back in time to go for lunch, and very nice it was. Just a €10 each MDD. The young guy (son of the owner) brought the menu to us on his phone translated from Galego to English. He was very professional, but was varying far too much ballast for a young man and struggled to walk. We were worried that he won't live long if he doesn't get himself sorted 😥

We're intending to stay tomorrow night also, but maybe we won't eat out. Far too much food and drink for us. Martin even left half of his dessert!!

We rode through some lovely villages and handsome properties, to Meira Lighthouse and then Meira viewpoint. We climbed up past a batteria, but we were then in the clouds, so Martin saluted a building that looked like a Guardsman, and we descended.

Now resting and relaxing, whilst bike batteries are again recharging.

Today we woke to a mozzie flypast. Good job it didn't arrive earlier, or maybe it did, because when we found it, and dispatched it at around d 10 am, it was full of someone's blood. I react a day later, so tomorrow I'll know if it was meeee!!!

We also woke to grey skies, and a stroll wind, but by 11.00 ish when we'd decided to go riding, it had become sun and cloud.

Our ride was lovely, for the most part. The return, although on small roads mainly, was a let down after the rest.

Before we left a local came to the bar, with his pony and trap. We'd seen the rings on the wall behind us amd the scuffed ground and deduced that they were tethering rings. We'd expected macho Andalucian type horse riders, not a checked shirt, pony trap drivers.
Check out the almost "FUN" sticker on the back of the trap 👍.

Our ride, even with dullish skies, was lovely. We watched another horse that took our fancy. It was watching its companion being led up the road. Our turn round part was at another (more traditional) lighthouse, but as we turned the wind hit us, so vey few photos and none of, yet another, abamdoned military area. We headed down hill to get back to relative calm.

There's been quite a bit of activity on development side of the motorhome parking area. Even "mum" has been down to make her inspection. We had a knock on the door again. This time the delivery of two ice creams, foc 😊😊

Right, our last problem being sorted (aircon re-gassing) tomorrow we hope, and then we will be, ahem, "right behind you
Oh, how I wish. Riech Twin water pump failed on morning of planned departure. Scrabbled around and bodged up a replacement. Now at Oviedo weighing up the merits, and cost, of an awning …

After a very windy night, and being disturbed by the rattling warning board on the back of the motorhome, we woke to a sunny, but still windy, morning. We spent over an hour each researching our next stop, and both came to the same decision. Stay put for another night and go for a walk from here. It's Saturday, so better the place you know. It's fiesta here, just started at 3 pm so our decision may turn out to be a bad one if music carries this far.

This morning a tractor driven cart arrived with five musicians. Again the music was very reminiscent of Celtic influences, with pipes and drums.

We walked to the little beach we cycled past on our first ride. Its the most popular around here with, mainly, camper vans, and don't you know it when walking the path next to it 🤬🤬. Another place the surfers will lose, and so will everyone else.

We climbed the hill to the viewpoint we didn't go to on our bike ride because we couldn't see anything then. It was nice to see the view today. We could see back to the tower like lighthouse in one direction and our van in the other.

We got back in time to grab a couple of beers and a quick lunch before they shut shop here to go partying. We MIGHT have a wander to have a look if it's not too far away. We have a lovely cloud formation above us. That's the wind again!!

We drove 90km today. The longest distance in one go since we arrived in Galicia. We got around Ferrol and A Coruña easily, but it was definitely a shock to the system to see so many people and cars.

We're now on a big parking next to the port at a place called Cáön and the sea is very noisy 😊. We've got a bike ride planned for tomorrow, part of which we've done before on our first time in Galicia two years ago.

The sea, from just in front of our van. It's obvious why it's so noisy.

I’d like that by the sea, sends me to sleep… Cáön does not come up on the maps…?

Try Caion. I couldn't read the tiny letters on my map when I posted!

We're spending another night here, hoping for a better sunset than last night. It started off promising to be lovely, but the sun entered a bank of cloud just above the horizon. So, no red clouds.

We've been for a bike ride today, but a beer and lunch comes before doing my photos 👍

Lunch now cooked, and eaten. It's our main meal of the day so it's important 😊.

The wind has increased so the temperature has dropped nicely. If I go outside I think ill have to wear a fleece 😂. Steaming Spain? Not if you know where to go 👍.

Anyway, our ride was very good. It was a combination on a ride we did in 2020, but with many more interesting tracks.

We were scanning the FLT areas and all were empty. Just one IT registered camper, parked, with ramps, right on an unsurfaced road, not even pulled into the side 🤣.

We're going to go to a favourite FLT spot tomorrow, but first backtracking a km or so to use the services at the nearby official spot which, this morning was empty also.

For such as Mr porky we're finding it easy to wild park on this part of the Galician coast.

We rode coastal, then through lettuceland then back to the coast, where we'll be tomorrow 🤞🤞🤞

We're now the other side of the hill on my last photo. But first we went up the hill from our last nights parking for a km or so to a service point. Emptied and refilled, we retraced our route and drove about 6km to our present spot. There are various parking areas at this small coastal area, but we prefer to go right to the end and up on rocky ground and leave the beach parking for the day visitors.

We had a short walk along the beaches and around the Lagoon and we then had our entremesas (and a glass of something each) sitting on the cliff top watching a fisherman. Martin was sufficiently encouraged to give it a go himself but the waves were far too rough. He might have another go later.

All being well we're going to have two nights here with a bike ride tomorrow.
We're here.

We went for a nice bike ride today. Using Wikiloc it's always a magical mystery ride if you're in an unknown area. Today's ride was 95 percent rideable, we just had to push up a rough track for a hundred metres or so.

When we arrived back, our neighbours had left (we can now re-attach the Sog!) and we have a lovely view back towards the beaches and few buildings.

We had our (end of a ride) entremesas and then Martin went fishing, because he could see others out there. I could see him from my seat in the motorhome, and through the rectangular window (lounge area, as opposed to my rectangular bedroom window) 😂😂.

I didn't post yesterday. Yesterday was a morning of catching up. We left our parking because we needed some food shopping and also van servicing (toilet emptying and fresh water filling type of servicing). We also needed some LPG to fill our cooking/hot water making tanks (heating not necessary!!). We found everything within two hours or so.

We then went to park on an area we used last year. We'd not been here long, when Martin, off with his fishing rod, was approached by a man and his son. After a few sentences it was clear that neither of them (man and Martin) were Spanish. The guy was Dutch, married to a Spanish woman. His son, a delightful boy, who had reached the grand age of nine on 9 August, speaks ... Spanish (he is Spanish, he says), Dutch, German and English. They had a look around our motorhome. Pretty disappointing maybe if they've seen newer, more expensive models. Ours suits us though.

They live nearby and told us of a lovely beach to visit. It wasn't on our planned driving route, but ... when I looked later at our proposed bike ride for today, it went there ...

Anyway, we had a very quiet night and this morning we went for our ride.

Every ride we do we say is the best. Today's was the best so far. Nothing we rode was at all difficult. We rode up to windfarms and down to beaches (the recommended one) and up again to an ermita with Tower that I climbed the 134 steps up and back down. We spoke to some Brits that had driven up there. They were camping on sites, even though they have a day van. They are only about the third lot of Brits we've seen so far (they've not seen many Brits either).

I climbed up inside the tower, 134 steps that I've already mentioned. Martin preferred to preserve his knees.

We're having the best summer trip for years! Perfect weather, brilliant scenery and friendly people wherever we go, whether locals or other visitors 😊😊

(I know I'm not getting any comments, but I'm keeping an easily accessed diary for me (and anyone else who's interested) for future trips.)

Mist over the water where we're parked, and below us as we climbed up

That’s a skinny tower, did the steps go round and round…?

Yes! But all the same width, no narrowing as it got higher.

I couldn't count them on the way up! But there were 134 on the way down 😊

It’s a beautiful area! We are winter travellers now, but if we ever come in the summer again we will revisit Gallicia! Thanks for the photos!

Interesting to hear Martin went fishing. I go beach fishing with 2 rods when we stay at Benicarlo, as you don't need a licence or permit to fish on the beach between Barcelona and Alicante but you do everywhere else in Spain. I'm wondering if Martin has a permit for Galicia or whether he just doesn't bother, which is what I propose to do also. The rules are enforced in Spain but are the Portugese as strict?
