Someone hit my van ,lot of damage ????

Parked my van near my house ,, a vehicle has come along during the night and hit the offside corner of my Adria , the garage door ripped off , side panels ripped away including insulation GRP and Plywood exposing interior ,, rear bumper smashed , who ever did it also smashed in my windscreen ??? WHY dont know who did it no witnesses ... must to have been a 4x4 or a truck ??????
Sussex Police not really interested ,


Only noticed it this afternoon , Oh Please!
Have contacted and informed insurance ??

I am very very angry just done 3500 miles across 9 countires in 6 weeks with no problems and my van gets bashed in outside my friggin home !!!

need some advice on repairs and how to proceed ,, im worried about the vans integrity

OK so today still have not had any calls or emails from Insurers AIB/LV ????
police have not issued me a crime number yet ??

took van to Motorhome workshop worthing and their motorhome and caravan body repairs specialist in company opposite says its all looks repairable and will inspect the van more closely and get quote to me next week ,,,

Thats it so far today

I would get some CCTV installed once its completed, someone hit our motorhome at the side of our house and left a nice mark all the way down the rear corner. It was not serious as came out with some specialist work but nobody of course owned up to it. I see how close the refuse collection trucks get when reversing but i know it was not them as that would be the front on mine. I am pretty sure it was the neighbours son as he works for autoglass and the stripe was the same colour but again cannot prove it, now i have cctv at the side so if it happens again i will at least see them leaving.
There are a lot of scumbags out there i am afraid, more than we think.

I expect you have your over night parking as on street in your policy, just check as insurances will use any possible thing to avoid a payout!

Now saturday morning ,, No reply or contact from AIB/LV insurers ????
Police have not issued a crime number as yet ????

I have put a tarpaulin and gaffer tape over the damaged areas , and a local windscreen company says they can replace my windscreen for £320 from stock but im reluctant to go ahead without insurers agreementI

cant believe the insures are so lazy or slow or what!!!!!!!!
No emails or calls from them ??????? im worried now

You old try and phone your insurance company tell them you are recording the call and can you get the windscreen replace to preserve the interior from further damage. Normall the insurance company would remove the van to a place of safety.

Well I rang LV again and their claims dept offices are closed until monday , AIB are only the broker so they have no say but they do have 24 hour cover

so thats it for now ,,, very poor of LV i would have thought they would have some kind of 7 days 24hour cover ....

From the damage you described it's likely they will write the van off.

That's why a few photos would give people a better idea how bad it is.

In the insurers eyes if its going to be written off they won't care about it getting worse due to weather etc and they won't pay for a replacement windscreen if it's going to be written off.

Best method is just to cover it up as much as you can after having taken as many photos of the damage, where it was parked etc that you can.

We've used Adams Morey's body shop in Portsmouth before. Highly professional and did a great job.

Well a good proportion of crimes are committed that no one saw and their still treated as crimes. Most hit and runs fall in to this category .

So yes it's a crime. Various crimes actually.

Leaving the scene of an accident

Willful damage

Driving without due care and attention

Etc etc

Yes but if no one saw any of these things, how do you proove any of it happened.

I don't know how to say this without upsetting the op but in the eyes of the law who is to say he didn't just wrap it round a bollard and bring it back.

Well that's the Same with any number of crimes. The police used to get off their arse and attempt to solve this stuff. But those days are long gone. They're more interested in confiscating kids scooters etc.

But it won't matter as the insurance company will deal with it regardless of whether it was a 3rd party or the insured.


But at a cost later

Place the van exactly where it was when it was hit take photos from the angle you think it was hit from and any debris in the road

When AIB quoted me he made a big deal that they were 'agents' 24 hour call and would handle everything.

Seems someone has been telling fibs ....I am not impressed with their approach and will not be renewing g with them next year

I see on the forum many people praising LV for their low cost, maybe there is a reason for the low premiums?

Busy day today LV got in touch have claim reference ,,, they have photos ,, told me to get some estimates Their nearest official bodywork place is in Tonbridge ,, but I have
Master's or Boxall and Crouch both companies specialist caravan and Motorhome body repairers in Littlehampton 5 miles away,,, took the van to both to inspect they both reckon its an easy fix if they can get the ADRIA parts ???? probably less than £3k , the Thetford parts and side panel and Insulation and paint fix is no problem but rear offside vertical panel which hold lights need replacing and thats the rub can you get Adria bits for 2009 van ????

Another company I sent details to said it would be classified a write off ????? and they woulld not quote

Just waiting for LV to get their assesors on to my case ,, need to get windscreen sorted ASAP so I can use the van quoted £320 for that and its in stock ...

still no police crime number ????

Why are you not doing the windscreen as a separate claim ?

Good news on the possible repair, I guess it must have looked worse to you when you first looked 👍

Im not but i need the windscreen done fast its all the same claim but body work will be weeks for any work
