Yep, it is said that Jim, may his bald head forever shine bright, paid a spin doctor a five figure sum to come up with that but his words before he handed over the brown envelope were "do you really think they will fall for it ?".

If he had copied the post I could have had a word and asked him to delete it; but he has just linked to the post, that is the correct thing to do and he has done nothing wrong. I have not read the entire page, but I didn't see anyone being ridiculed.

Everything we post on an open forum is indexed by Google within seconds and will be available for anyone to read long after we are gone.

No, you carry on posting what you want (within reason of course) and just accept that none of us are experts at most things and we learn from other mistakes and experiences and this thread was a fine example of mostly constructive discussion on a very important matter that being that most of us have an array of clobber stuck on our van roofs and we maybe forget what the consequences can be if those things come flying off the roof to those following behind.

I wouldn't worry. Here we have someone setting themselves up as an expert in how to fit solar panels and still proposing using mechanical fixings to the motorhome roof to supplement a permanent chemical bond. If he had his way Airbus would be using 2" nails to keep the wings on "just in case".

You made a mistake, we all do, you were happy to share your misfortune so that others can learn from it - that's helpful to everyone here. He on the other hand is encouraging others to make what might be costly mistakes and passing himself off as an expert to boot.

Didn't even know what a Battery Master was in a recent thread and said that Van Bitz may be OK for fixing "bumpy floors" but not inverters, which is ironic as in thirty years successful trading I or my staff have never fixed a bumpy floor, but have installed thousands of inverters

Yes Eddie, the "VAT threshold and no longer having premises" does speak volumes, it tells you that Allan was ill for a long time, and started his battle with Cancer in December 2016.
What started as Colon Cancer eventually grew to become secondaries in his Liver, Lungs and Spleen.
He has been given less than 6 months to live. And how is he spending his spare time? I will tell you - trying to help people.
Even though he is dying he is trying to create a standard for solar Panel fitting, using Sikaflex technicals help and advice.
It may not be a perfect guide, but at least it will generate discussion, hopefully leading to real standards.


As for him "regularly misquoting", lets look at your statement above shall we?

When what was actually written was very different, the post stated,

Clearly he doesn't say you do "fix bumpy" floors. He is saying Auto-electricians are specialists at 12v electrics, they don't do other work like conventional Caravan technicians.

As for Inverters, do you repair them like Allan does? Do you understand the exact finite detail of how the electronics work?

You know full well that Allan knows in detail what a Battery Master is and exactly how they work, having repaired one. That he doesn't rate them, is something different.

I am very grateful that you and others are prepared to tell us all about the problems you have experienced. We all benefit from it. Wise people admit to mistakes so that they and others can learn from the experience, it is the foolish who pretend they know everything and never get anything wrong. Over my years I have met many insecure people who can never admit to a mistake but it is the ones who say “oops I have a problem here” that impress me.

"Inverters" let's do those then as it illustrates my point about Alan perfectly. Just a year or so ago He posted on another Forum IS YOUR INVERTER SAFE. The content of this post proved beyond doubt he knew little or nothing about them and his content was essentially ridiculed Then a few posts later Alan himself said

Well! as a company that specialises in installing 12 volt equipment into motorhome and has done so since 1990, and employ staff that are qualified auto electricians and personally have written various Codes of Practice for leisure vehicle installation, We do not

That particular gem came when your Paragon responded to a customer that was entirely happy with our advice and installation recommended us and was to all intents and purposes was told that they were wrong to be a happy customer

We would, should the situation arise, install another from stock and send the faulty unit back to the manufacturer for their comments, however, installed correctly the instances of failure are minimal. But yes, we often repair older pieces of equipment, but are too busy to offer an installation service. Well if he does he should know not to discuss an inferior product on a forum, call it a Battery Master and then try and dismiss his mistake when called out. My Battery Master that I designed some years ago is 100% potted, IE filled completely with resin, making them 100% waterproof, 100% vibration proof and 100% non repairable.

I do find this discussion a bit of a sad discussion most people on here give advice free from any gain to their own ends,

If any one makes a statement of I am correct, I am sure they will be able to back it up with credentials ie many years in electronics or electrical engineering to back up any statements.

Most on here know a basic amount, some know a vast amount, some profess to know it all, but all of this info is free and in the best of intention.

I find it a real shame that two well respected traders have to air their grievances on here.
