So, what is the etiquette when it comes to a generator?

Get out the deep fried donuts and hot dogs then bang on a bit of Van Halen. With all of the multi coloured baubles seen on vans and tents nowadays it's like being at a fairground anyway.

We have a genny which we've used in anger a few times. It tends to go to airshows, Grands prix, horse racing & golf. those around us seemed happy enough as it's in an acoustic box but I'd not consider it on a campsite, no point with EHU and there's more important stuff for the payload to eat even though the constant hourly drone of site lawnmowers make more noise. it won't be long before it'll be replaced with a lithium power station. Brother in law has his beady eye on it after that. He's going to permanently fix it in his box trailer.

Personally I don't have an issue with them, leave 'em running all night for all I care. I grew up on a Liverpool council estate, quiet didn't exist.

When not on EHU and with other Motorhomes we run our on board generator about 5 to 10 minutes two to three times a day so we can use the coffee machine or hairdryer etc. So that the batteries will last if we are there fir a few days. No more than that as very conscious it can be annoying. They certainly annoy me when left on for long periods.

we do use it when wilding alone and we are very grateful for it.

I do accept some people have to have them for medical reasons.

Couldn’t say I’ve had a problem with noisy generators but I have been parked up beside some noisy
Diesel heaters during the night. Not good.☹️

These days the quality of battery to battery chargers you can get negates the need for generators in motor homes.
Hairdryer 1kw, bean to cup coffee machine 1.4kw, two ebike batteries on charge along with various laptop and phones plus will you just pop this in the microwave for me?

can all be done in series but sometimes nice to do in parallel 😀

When I was tugging a Dutch bloke from the next "street" away on a spanish campsite came round to moan about the noise of our new air con running on the night setting during the summer. I asked everyone around and between him and us if they could hear it.. nobody and I mean nobody said they had heard a thing. Bloody green eyed monster me thinks. Funny though his dog barked its bloody tits off all day long and that was okay. Told him to do one when he reappeared.

Definitely a comma missing from this sentence ?

Now a bottle of wine down, catching up with another funster, with steaks cooking. Life ain't so bad 😊
Besides, I have a PVC.

Bet in an hour there's a thread on a caravan forum about a prat taking his dog out and slamming the door 😂
They wouldn't like us then. I mean, the "Burstner slam" is already a thing...our door weighs more than some vans payload I'm sure...the associated "slam" is rather, ahem, loud!

I always carry a lpg Honda for emergencies and only ever run it for a short period if not to close to others, it got us out of a jam last year ( cab battery flat) at Lincoln break down said their would be 6 hours but 30 mins on the little genny up and running 👍

In my book you’re allowed to use one due to your physical proportions and propensity for violence 😂

Yes, you are quite correct Campervan_man I realise how that reads now that you have pointed it out. I shall be more careful in the future.

I hold my hand up to noise pollution😢
I have an old computer fan temperature controlled to increase air flow past fridge.
I had a German visit from 4 pitches away complaining about the noise. 🤬

We are possibly going to use a genny in the next week or so on a campsite!
Mind you tho we will probably be the only ones there, I think at the mo there is another unit on but it’s down one end of a 5 acre field and we will be at the other end, and it will only be used if we don’t get enough sun!

I'm on a site, on one side I have a dick head running a generator the other side there is a prat in a PVC with a dog who keeps slamming the bloody door.
Really getting through the grammar stuff today. Hilarious - keep it up :)

Well, I woke up in a much better mood (I blame the game of motorway roulette on the M25 getting down here) ;)

I mean I woke to the sound of the genny, but it just made me laugh this morning
(it wasn't on for long anyway)
