I bought Dollie 4 weeks ago!
Now after a full service dome I'm raring to spend some nights with her.

I've booked a site close to home, but recently after numerous posts on Instagrams, of break-ins, especially with women. Im beginning to feel very unsure about spending these nights away.

I'm.not into dogs as security either !

N been told that pepper spray taxer guns n bats, are NOT LEGAL!!!! MMMM

But how do u protect yrself in an easy accessible door? N not able to protect yrself properly . Anxious 66 yr old solo lady who just wants to enjoy her new adventure

I am a long time, solo, full time motorhomer...

...despite often leaving my doors and windows unlocked and, in some cases, open, I have yet to have any ladies "break in" and disturb me... :crying:

Of course, being brought up as a Quaker, I have more than one thing on MY mind...

I have cleaning, tidying, washing, cooking and toe nail clipping... :whistle2:

Are you suggesting you haven't had your oats?

A bit of banter is fine, in my opinion. 😀
I agree I principle (and have been known to join in!) but less sure in the case of recent comments here in view of the OP's gender. Just a thought, not a request or complaint..

Ah - I take your point but as a single lady of the same age, I can categorically say that I have never, ever felt threatened by a fellow Funster of any breed or gender in the 15 years that I have been here.

Banter can often help to put things into perspective.

Thank you. I'm very new to this group so feeling my way somewhat. I certainly wasn't suggesting anyone here would set out to intimidate in any way but felt the need to air a concern because, as you know, one person's 'banter' can be quite different in another person's experience.
All will be fine I'm sure.

On the deterrant front, have a quick look at this thread on external LEDs, one over your door mightn't be a bad idea. https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/foru...-led-above-the-side-door.276646/#post-5425547

Also, what an utterly brilliant lot of excellent suggestions in a tiny amount of time!! I just want to congratulate and thank a. the people who created and run this site, b. the people above and in other threads who take time to offer help/information/advice and, most of all, sweet caroline - well done for not letting singledom, age or scaremongers put you off!!!

Well done & thank you to everyone. And to sweet caroline, a wonderful time awaits, enjoy!!! 😍😘
Ahhh Stuart! What a super encouraging reply to me n the actual site who have been just WONDERFUL with their FREE INFORMATION.
NOT FORGETTING JAWS WHO MET ME AT THETFORD TO BE INTRODUCED TO HIS PERSONAL SERVICE MANAGER.

Also someone sent me FREE a blind spot stick on mirror for the left hand passenger sider.

What STARS U ALL ARE HERE!!!
THANK-YOU SO MUCH.

N ILL LET U ALL KNOW HOW MY FIRST 2 DAYS GO TOO ON MY RETURN ON Saturday.

I feel blessed to have joined this friendly forum x
I’m also a solo female traveller and slightly older than you, but do usually go away with others. Like Debs I very rarely lock my doors when on a campsite but do if I’m ‘wild camping’.
In the early days I too was a little nervous but I do have the advantage of having a terrier who can be noisy!!
I have a personal alarm that I keep by the bedside, not sure if anyone would respond if I pulled the pin but hopefully would deafen any intruder and they would leg it!
It’s such a fantastic hobby so please, just go and enjoy yourself.
Thank you fir that n giving me the confidence to get in with it. So thursdsy night I'll ve Dollie for very first night. Whooppeee

When i first got my MH, I got myself booked onto a few Rallies and asked to be put with the single people. It took a couple of goes before I found my feet and got comfortable. I also got talking to others about their experiences and asked for advice from them. Best thing I did if I am honest. Had a couple of not so good rallies also - story for another post, but nothing is perfect. The friends I have made have been amazing honestly can’t thank them enough. If they don't know the answer to a question then they know someone on the Rally that does or had a similar issue. Best advices is simply - just do it. Common sense comes to mind and what has been said before, if there is something about a place that makes you uneasy, don't stay, move on. You can’t describe it to people but you will know.

Hope to see you on a Motorhome fun Rally. I am normally in the naughty corner .lol

Oh dear, dear me... :(

One day... maybe a long, long, long time from now, someone somewhere will read or hear the word "Quaker" and NOT mention oats...

I live in hope but not much expectation...

Quite so. I'd give cyberyacht 3 months porridge for his comment.

And... I long to be in a restaurant or bar somewhere in the world where, when someone drops and breaks a glass or plate, no one... absolutely NO ONE, cheers.

I live in hope but not much expectation.

I hope sweet caroline had a successful first night and long may they continue.
she posted nothing at just after 10.00am so she may have been abducted by aliens and it is a smoke screen for us to think all is fine.

or alternatively she is actually enjoying herself too much to log on here and has alleviated many of her worries

Son in law had to sort out my new internet tv couldnt get it to synch with phone! Filled tank up with water, the pump decided TO STOP WORKING ,mid hair wash n lathering. Not a happy bunny.
So back to garage again next week with pump problem grrr.
Heating worki g eventually n i was cosy as toast all night .

So feel feel happy that I did it. Great site owner Hermoine who was brilliant putting Dollie up n running yesterday afternoon for me too.
All in all I'm happier n less anxious than I was last week.
Thanks guys for asking.

Water pumps do wear out and many carry a spare (£60 approx for a new one if it is the type that sits outside your water tank).
