I bought Dollie 4 weeks ago!
Now after a full service dome I'm raring to spend some nights with her.

I've booked a site close to home, but recently after numerous posts on Instagrams, of break-ins, especially with women. Im beginning to feel very unsure about spending these nights away.

I'm.not into dogs as security either !

N been told that pepper spray taxer guns n bats, are NOT LEGAL!!!! MMMM

But how do u protect yrself in an easy accessible door? N not able to protect yrself properly . Anxious 66 yr old solo lady who just wants to enjoy her new adventure

If your first night away is on a campsite ( probably best for first time) let the wardens know it’s your maiden trip. They will look out for you and help with any set up issues you may have. Also remember everyone on site is there to enjoy themselves and will always help and give guidance if you need it. We are a friendly bunch and will help out whenever we can. If you have the funster sticker in your van someone will come and say hello.
Go relax and have fun, it’s a whole new way of life 👍

The above is the advice I was going to give, IF Sandringham is open, and I think they are, book in ether at the CC Club or the C&MH Club (both clubs are next door to one-another but the Camping & Caravan Club is cheaper) let the Warden know that you it's your first time and would like to be near Reception. They will try to assist.

The only other precaution I would recommend to anyone is, get a Personal Alarm with a long wrist leash that pulls the pin out and sets off a very loud alarm.
You can secure the body to the passenger door on a PCV, or body on yours, and tie the leash to the habitation door handle with a cable tie.

When the door is open, it pulls the pin out, and the Alarm goes off.
Cheap as chips, so get a couple and keep one to hand + on the door, while you sleep!

PS. More people die of stress than being attacked in a Motorhome, so stop worrying!

thanks, guys, for all your suggestions above, your such a lovely thoughtful bunch,

I'm off on Thursday, so will let you know if I get Cold, Get Broken into, Blow myself up with the Gas, cant get electric up, no showers, or basically get bogged down in a farmer's field, and none of the above ever happens, and all thoses scary dreams and Instagram plugs, just drift into oblivion hahaha, but I do appreciate all your help out there .
thank you
caroline

Not sure you should be telling people you will be away from home on forums such as this. Best to keep it vague. It is the same when you are away, posting to let the world know you are not at home, burglars often scan these places for such valuable info.

How will they know where she lives?

There is a nice little campsite near Barrow called Church view. It would be a great little site to try for the first time for you. Our friends use it when in the area. I’ve just checked this for you and it’s temporarily closed. Good for another time maybe.
If you a CAMC member, Mill farm CL at Hengrave is really nice.

That would not be too difficult to find out, there is already quite a bit of info on the forum: town of residence, photo of motorhome, photo of person etc. Any one who already knows the OP would recognise the person from the posts.

thank you Geoff for that tip. Thankfully for me, i have tenants always living in my house, so HOME is never alone. also did not put the name of the site, either that I was going to , for that exact reason.
But appreicate your help honey

How will they know where she lives?
she has kindly told them she is single, put a picture on the van on the avitar, then said where she is going and that is local to her and how long and the latest time for departure is publicised

but as she seems already making up her own horror stories pointing it all out may only add to her concerns

oops too late :Eeek:

for a well travelled back packer I think Sweet Caroline is spending too much time on tik tock/FB and the other scare mongering sites and I hope is not put off

I think its more likely that potential burglars would notice a van missing off a drive rather than searching motorhome sites to see who was away.

Dont tell Caroline that vans are stolen off the drive, she wont know whether to stay or go. 😱

Out of interest have you read this book? Retirement Rebel? You might find it interesting as the lady who wrote the book is travelling alone. Enjoy your adventures :)

Single lady going for her first overnighter

Good luck!
Hopefully his parents won't come home unexpectedly (or he has a big wardrobe).

As previously mentioned, I use a strap on the inside of the front doors, as shown in the photos. It’s a visual deterrent and high enough for me to still drive if needs be.

You‘re going to be fine, honestly when on a site, you’ll feel ever so safe in your home, but understand how it feels for the first few times. Also when on a site, I’m sure you’ll get chatting to others and that’ll make you feel better about it all.

Keep us posted, as we’re all excited about your adventures, so you must share them with us 😃

You could always try sleeping in Dollie on your drive or even on the road outside your house (assuming its possible) for a night or two. It will get you used to all the different sounds from outside and get you used to using the facilities during the night if you need to, with all the comfort of knowing you're on your doorstep.
Hope you enjoy it what ever and wherever you decide.

Someone else mentioned Vanbitz alarm

Strikeback or Growler have the ability of setting the alarm whilst you are inside (disables the internal sensors) they also fit an external LED or multiple LED that flashes when armed I believe that it was this that stopped my MoHo being stollen.

haha, thank you! Sleepless nights at present, but KNOw I NEED to get out there and use her, or thousands of pounds down the drain. Just spoke to the site, and she said, the FARMER, that the pipes are frozen up, and maybe not be a great time to go! But looking at the weather in Suffolk it will be 10 degrees from Tuesday, so going for it! haha Wish me luck

Can you fill your fresh water tank up at home before you go to be on the safe side ?

On the deterrant front, have a quick look at this thread on external LEDs, one over your door mightn't be a bad idea. https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/foru...-led-above-the-side-door.276646/#post-5425547

Also, what an utterly brilliant lot of excellent suggestions in a tiny amount of time!! I just want to congratulate and thank a. the people who created and run this site, b. the people above and in other threads who take time to offer help/information/advice and, most of all, sweet caroline - well done for not letting singledom, age or scaremongers put you off!!!

Well done & thank you to everyone. And to sweet caroline, a wonderful time awaits, enjoy!!! 😍😘
