Shall I, Shan't I? Third time lucky? Trip to Norway from Spain

Our easy day, so far has consisted of Martin having an early morning fish from the dinghy and then all of us cycling to the lighthouse at the tip of the headland.

The lighthouse

We came back via the western coast and stopped to look at a church.

A beautiful building in beautifully kept surroundings.

Norman spoke to a local who told him interesting facts about the church which is the main one for the whole area. There are three churches on the different headland, all belonging to the same diocese, and where they meet is the big hole we climbed into and back out of on our walk yesterday! So that has religious connections. We did wonder about the named place that didn't have an information board.

IMG_20190713_103413.jpg

Everyone is so friendly and stops to chat and tell us all about the area and its history.

It's been cloudy all day and it's taken until 15 minutes ago for the sun to come through!

Ros and I have had a pre dinner stroll along the coast path.

Still dull on the way out ...

... but clearing on the way back.

Poor internet yesterday so catching up now.

Had a short walk yesterday to a bird hide on a lake. On the way we passed a few giraffes and other assorted animals

Last night we found a flt place back on the coast. Not a pretty sight to the right (gravel quarry) but OK to the left.

IMG_20190715_182227.jpg

And once leaving this quarry there is lovely countryside and villages either side (as we found out on a bike ride this morning). A grey morning ...

But a sunny afternoon.

At our tonight's FL area.

Ros and I have had a short stroll to suss out a bike ride for tomorrow and, bizarrely, we came upon a table of books for sale, in the middle of nowhere!!!

Ok, since it seems to occur to no one else - why are there giraffes meandering about on your walking path?

The giraffe on the right looks like its just emerging from a secret underground burrow... who knew they could dig o_O!

I think they have an agenda of their own!

We had several holidays in Denmark, towing a caravan when we lived in Germany. It's a nice place but unarguably a bit flat. :) As I think I've mentioned before the tides are important for fishing in the Baltic. Local fishing shops are the best source of info. :)

We have biked in flatter places!

The walk we did the other day managed an accumulative 360m of climb. And the bike ride over 400m!

No mountain scenery though ... anywhere!

Another nice bike ride. The first 12km were battery free, along a gravel coast path.

IMG_20190717_124658.jpg

And now for something completely different.

We're at a "pay" marina at Udbyhoj (first payment we've made for parking in Denmark). Chosen because of its position and the possibility of crossing on the ferry tomorrow, not because there weren't any free places to stop.

It's nice to be with other people, mainly locals and boat people. And, of course Martin can fish here. Always a bonus!

Fishermen have been coming in with mackerel. Martin's going out later!

The Frankia makes our van look like a toy!

Tight lines Martin

This morning, after Team Talk, we decided to take the 5 minute ferry ... to the other side. Poor R&N were hit again because of their bigger van even though there were only three of us on there!

IMG_20190718_100351.jpg

We shopped in ALDI and then parked up for a walk around a lake

We're now at this spot (for the night, we hope) from where, tomorrow, we'll bike (if it's not raining) or walk (if it is)!!!

It was Ros' turn to cook and we (they) had this for puddin'

Guess the topic of conversation afterwards :LOL:

Looks yummy !
Was that Marscapone with the prunes

A young Danish family told us the kids play area was great so Ros and I went for a look-see. I so wish I was young again but, young at heart is almost as good, so we had a good play on some of the structures.

We first found the slide.
IMG-20190718-WA0005.jpg

Then we ventured into the musical area.
IMG_20190718_191806.jpg

IMG_20190718_191659.jpg

We recognised the first one but not the second.

I quite liked the spider.
IMG_20190718_191010.jpg

And loved the mole.
IMG_20190718_192639.jpg

There was a lot more but we didn't want to get lost!

The last few days have been showery and we grabbed a walk before heading to park at the coast. M and N had to have a go at playing music and Norman managed a good version of Three Blind Mice!

From there we managed a bike ride and then we headed to a paying place with leccy to batten down the hatches for the forecast heavy rain. Which still didn't arrive!

Luckily, we managed another dry ride this morning in a lovely mountain bike area. Unfortunately we could only gaze longingly at most of the single tracks because we didn't know where they were going.

We did manage a few though.

It's the first area in Denmark we've visited with named hills with heights (+/- 100 metres!!!). The sides of many of them had doors. Bunkers from the war?

Today's rain was forecast to start at 1pm so we got our shopping done and parked at the marina at Sæby for Martin to fish, whilst we had a wander around the, very pretty, colourful town.

The marina with The Lady of the Sea.

There are many ceramic shops in Sæby and a glassblower at work.

IMG_20190722_120902.jpg

The old town has many, old, colourful houses. The main plant growing at nearly every house, is Hollyhocks.

It's is now raining steadily and we're parked on grass next to the sea. Another FL parking!

Ros' turn to cook.

We've had spicy chicken, chilli and lemon, wraps. With salad.

Twas yummy, especially with a bottle of Bullas (Murcia) rosē.

It affects some people, more than others!

And then, THEY have finished with ice cream and ...

Is it Xmas time in Daneland already!!!( good to know it’s M and S!!!)
Lovely photos thanks for sharing!!

Our last two summer "escapes" from Spain have seen us, eventually, spending some time in Norway, a country we have found an affinity with. However, anyone reading my previous two threads ...

https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/forum/threads/from-spain-to-norway-the-long-way-round.152917/

and

https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/forum/threads/the-jumars-at-no-32-go-on-holiday-from-spain-to.177768/

... will know we've had (an expensive) breakdown on both occasions

However ... because we love Norway (and the fishing opportunities (Martin only, I hasten to add) ) this summer we've saved up for a contingency plan, and intend to have a third attempt.

The "Shall I, shan't I, is whether to do a thread, but I've almost persuaded myself that the answer is yes, because a thread is a good way to keep a diary.

Sooo....

In the not too distant future our 2019 summer trip will be put on here for all eternity.

(Some early planning may be mentioned also).

Thanks for reading ... and reading ... and ...
The Norway you have an affinity with, is I think, going to rapidly change, so personally I would go and see it now, before the roadworks & hordes arrive.....

I am really glad I was able to do route 17 twice on all those lovely scenic ferry journeys which apparently will be ended in the future ?
