Shall I, Shan't I? Third time lucky? Trip to Norway from Spain

We're taking the ferry to Lysekil. Yellow ferries are FREE!

IMG_20190801_085331.jpg

It's free cos it's the continuation of the road. You drive on (and off) with no directions.

A floating road. To be followed by a floating tunnel. :)

The fact that there are so many makes me think the locals don't collect them ... for some reason!
When we were travelling back from Norway we stopped off at a fish restaurant
The waitress tried to explain to us that they were not serving mussles as they were ‘transexual’
Also I think you’re only meant to eat shellfish when there is an R in the month - though this may be an old wives tale

We spent last night on a private Stellplatz at a place called Bottna where I got the washing done. €11, without leccy, doesn't break the bank. It's a huge lawned area with marked paths and a solar shower in a wooden shed that Martin tried but chickened out cos it was cold.

We stopped off in Hambürgsund for milk and are now at this awful place :D2 where Martin is launching the dinghy to go fishing.

I've caught his cold so I'm happy to sit and read and have a slow wander round and watch where he goes.

The breeze is onshore so he'll always make it back!

We, reluctantly, left our parking spot cos the locals were arriving to go swimming and we felt it was selfish to hog a space.

We drove through the Swedish equivalent of Blackpool or Benidorm (not quite so big) and eventually ended up at a Bronze Age Museum of farming and rock carvings.

Lots of motorhomes there when we arrived but only us staying overnight!

IMG_20190802_150410.jpg

In the afternoon we visited the "farm" part

and this morning we strolled around the rock carving and burial cairn trail.

We're now at Naturrervat Kragenås where Martin's gone out fishing. From the shore not the dinghy though today.

What a fascinating part of the world. Keep posting, yours is one of the few trips on MHF at the moment. :)

Following on from my post above I guess most folk like us stay indoors in August as everywhere is too busy. :) But where you are doesn't looked too packed. July and August too hot for us in southern Europe but it seems the perfect time to visit Scandinavia.

How many self caught fish suppers have you had on this trip ?

????

No actual fish suppers. We did have mackerel paté once though (y)

He doesn't keep the small ones.

We've just seen a local catch a small Garfish and he kept it!

It's coming to the end of the Scandi holiday season. We did get caught out early on but soon learnt to keep away from the more touristy areas.

I once saw a guy in Italy fishing for Garfish
He reckoned they are really good eating (despite the green bones)

From the Naturpark we went to a parking on P4N to visit a stone ship.

It's another area with a trail passing different sites. The main one is the burial site shaped like a ship.

Still too early to stop for the night, and it being Saturday!!! We've headed back to the coast to an SK 80 parking area.

It's another Naturrpark!

Looks very natural when you walk a few hundred metres to the coast.

Then you turn the corner!

Still it's tastefully done and you can catch Garfish from the end of the wooden structure!

If anyone's wondering why we're not out biking, we've both got streaming colds!

But ... we have lovely neighbours on our parking for the night.

On one side Swedish, with a house in Spain and on the other side Norwegians who are also very friendly.

We all speak English with no problem!!!

You have a dinghy now? The Jumar Navy. :)
Yep....had it a while....it's a Packfish 7..can be carried on back to the water...very stable...can stand in and cast or sit in a well designed seat....all bits and bobs go in storage pouches....rod holders....and it takes up little motorhome garage space, should be rowed but I am a canoeist and find this more efficient....

We've had the shortest ever trip into Norway. No breakdowns, except the fridge door lock slider fell off whilst we were there!!!

We decided that because the best of Norway was so far north or west (and the nearest bits we've been to twice already) we'd just stand on Norwegian land and then cross back into Sweden.

A couple of reasons. Firstly, I've already said above and, secondly, if we went to the steep fjord areas the walking would probably be too much for Martin's knee. So we've decided to stay on the flatter, Swedish terrain and use the ebikes.

Norway will still be there for another year.

We're on a marina parking and have done zilch (except for slow driving) all day! (Tell a lie Martin went fishing at 5.20 this morning. Didn't catch anything but saw three otters). Don't feel like doing anything anyway. Hopefully I will feel more human by tomorrow.

So no photos except one of Martin and the trolley he found next to a bin!

He thinks it might be just the thing to carry the uninflated dinghy down to the water!

Yesterday we arrived at Arvika and did a stock up at LIDL and then parked up for a (pear shaped as it turned out) walk.

IMG_20190806_135203.jpg

A nice parking area but with a NO CAMP sign so we headed to the official parking on the lakeside at Arvika.

IMG_20190805_205504.jpg

This morning we drove a few km from Arvika to do a short walk to a lookout tower. We DID get slightly wet!

We've then driven some 30+ km further south to a P4N with no negative reviews. It's at the bathing place for the village of Värmskog and it's lovely but it's also just started raining here also!

Tomorrow's forecast to be sunny ?

We've acquired a neighbour. A German couple who have an apartment in Spain near Torrevieja and spend 9 months there and 3 months in their motorhome in Sweden.

The sky cleared slightly and I went out to take a few photos. Martin did go out intending to fish (illicitly) but it started to rain so he scurried back.

Looks a lovely spot
Hope the weather is kind to you
There is a bit of a storm heading towards the UK at the weekend

We left our overnight spot early this morning because the sun was shining and we wanted to take the opportunity to get out on a dry bike ride. We parked in the village of Värmskog next to the church and a memorial to L.M.Ericsson.

IMG_20190807_132245.jpg

IMG_20190807_085830.jpg

The ride was completed in the dry and we passed many of the traditional red houses. These are coloured with a dye. It was originally from Falun's copper mine and the colour is known as Falun (or Falu) red. It's made from water, rye flour, linseed oil and tailings from the copper mines.

IMG_20190807_132415.jpg

From Värmskog we've headed to Lake Vanern (no permit needed for fishing) and a P4N motorhome parking (official but free) again on the water's edge. There two four of us here so far, a big difference to when we tried to park up here two years ago (July). We didn't get a space and carried on.

Hoping for a good sunset ...

Today we moved to a "pay" marina parking. We need to charge the bike batteries and the solar panel/sun isn't reliable. It's only €12 with services, leccy, toilets and hot showers.

IMG_20190808_133810.jpg

I'd found a walk to do "Chicken Walk" or Kycklingdalen. The name, as usual, comes from a story. This time about a farmer and his chickens who were shipwrecked on a bay of the lake.

Orienteering maps of the area were pinned up on notice boards and I took a photo, but when we arrived at the walk start, proper, there were paper copies available. We "borrowed" one! In our comfort zone now!!!

Fairly close to the start was a board showing a house for two families that used to be there. Nature has taken over pretty quickly!

IMG_20190808_111325.jpg

And now!!!
IMG_20190808_111328.jpg

We passed a few new properties who's access would be by boat. Very nice they were too, and so was their view.

IMG_20190808_133540.jpg

IMG_20190808_133513.jpg

We walked up the Chicken Dale and climbed to a shelter at the highest point just as we heard a loud clap of thunder. We waited out a potential storm but only got a light shower.

IMG_20190808_120553.jpg

IMG_20190808_132652.jpg

We headed downhill through forests of berry-less bilberry plants and cottonwool soft lichen.

IMG_20190808_123218.jpg

Back at base we showered and Martin had a few casts into the lake and we had a FIRO GnT and beer.

We've now been joined by a young couple in a campervan who've plonked it fair and square in the middle of two spaces!!! Awaiting fallout if anyone arrives and wants to park in the "official" three places.

Might stay here tomorrow also if we can find a decent bike ride to do.

IMG_20190808_151116.jpg

Because Martin found a local, fisherman friend, we got lots of information about fishing (boring) and the area (not so). He told us we could ignore private road signs because they applied to motorised transport. (It's still a bit disconcerting to do so)!

However, today we did ignore such a sign and ended up cycling through a quarry and emerging into a farmyard. Four people standing chatting there smiled and waved and answered our question positively about being there and pointing to the onward route.

It was a nice 48km ride but with no especially interesting features. A church was the best we could find.

However, we're staying here for another night and hoping we don't get another selfish young couple like we did yesterday. They refused to move for a fellow country motorhomer, used the barbeque, washing up facilities, plugged into leccy, used the washing up room and then the showers and then after six or seven hours here upped sticks and left!!!

HE also hogged the best fishing spot, which, for Martin was the biggest crime!!!

However, here are a couple of photos from our ride today and a photo of ...

(a) sunset last night

or

(b) an ink on folded paper pattern, with Martin superimposed!

Today the forecast rain arrived but it wasn't heavy so not so bad. We shopped (needed tonics!!! and milk mainly) and then spent the morning travelling east. The forecast for the whole area over the next few days/week/fortnight is to be unsettled!

We've halted for the night at a P4N parking near Klismo and next to a small lake (no fishing without a permit) but with mountain bike trails starting from here. That'll be good if it's dry in the morning. Anyhow, we had a short stroll along the trail in a brief sunny window in the weather.

We think the structure on the right may be a smokehouse. There was a chimney emerging from the grass roof.

Lovely pics. I have experienced summer by the lakes in Sweden and wouldn’t want to again
Clouds of mossies!
Are you being bothered at all ?

We have, once again, not seen many mozzies. We've walked in damp forests (their natural environment) and zilch. We have had a few horse flies but that's it.

And, better still, we haven't had any of the blighters inside the motorhome!
