Self-levelling system?

I can see no reason why you would have your handbrake off when you are up on your jacks in the first place.
If your on site for a few weeks on the jacks you may find that your handbrake sticks on when you go to move on, this has happened to me a couple of times, so now if I'm likely to be parked up for longer than a week i leave the handbrake off when i've levelled the van, i have so far always remembered to put the handbrake on before lowering the van but I may leave a note on the speedo to remind me in the future :giggle:

Ours operates in the same way a ChrisL's does.

I was specifically told by Mick at SAP on the handover to make sure the handbrake is on when you turn the ignition on and it's up on the jacks as it can corrupt the system if you use the handbrake to lower the van and I have seen evidence of this when a Dutch couple had this very problem.

Going to have to get used to that as I never use the handbrake

Can I ask whether it’s possible to use the E&P to level, then switch off the ignition and release the handbrake without the system retracting the jacks? The reason I ask is that the handbrake lever tends to get in the way of the revolving driver’s seat when the handbrake is on and I’d like to be able to lower the brake lever to give full mobility to the driver’s seat once the van is level.

Is that possible?
Definitely possible with the HPC system once the ignition is turned off.

Agreed ... and I can turn on the ignition and the jacks don't retract until I try to start the engine.

Yes, the same with the E&P system.

I should have said in my earlier post, when you try to start the engine rather than when it is just the ignition that is turned on.

Thanks all, so far. Is the Amplo system only fitted by Towtal? We live in Devon but I’d build a trip around getting it fitted up North if necc. I see a lot of folk use SAP at Doncaster, but there must be an E&P option closer to home? Ma-ve also looks possible in other areas?
Have it once well fitted.

I had My E & P System fitted in October by out & about Motor home & Caravan services near Market Deeping, good service & good job done, I will say its the best thing I have had fitted on the motorhome, When I ordered it CMC had an offer on for extra base plates free of charge & fitted at the same time, recommend E&P & Out & About,

The Tesa Autolift 4 does not require the ignition to be on, indeed you get a loud warning if you try and start the engine with the legs down. At £3500 fitted it is a very cost effective option. Comes with a remote control and has both automatic and manual modes, very easy to use.

I had this fitted last December and have used it for 48 nights so far. You don't need to lift the wheels off the ground, though it will do this. Ideally you need to lift only enough for the van to be level and stable, otherwise you could have problems getting in and out of the van.
Hi can I ask if you are still happy with the TESA system another 18 months on from your original response? I am drawn to the system because of the weight and cost and interested in an owners view. The majority seem to be E&P or HPC but they are so much for for a system that does the same thing in a different way ie electro mechanical vs hydraulic. Many thanks

After our decision to put the AL-KO Hy 4 system on by Frankia we are waiting (still) for a response from E&P regarding our two rear jacks which are pitting at three years old! Maybe avoid any E&P products.

Have you sprayed them with silicone spray as part of routine maintenance?

If this is recommended ‘routine maintenance’ doesn’t that indicate E&P know about this issue. This is one of several reports I’ve seen now about pitting on the working surface of E&P jacks. We had our HPC fitted nearly six years and the working surfaces are like new. I asked about routine maintenance at the time of fitting and was told no just have the oil changed every two or three years.

Yes religiously, when the pitting was noticed by the company who look after them for us in Scotland it was stated at the time by them that the silicone was obvious on the rams.
