We’re picking up our Burstner Elegance soon and I was thinking of getting a self levelling system put on, but have just been told that because it’s tag axel and 5 tonnes, it’ll be about £6k! Has anybody got experience and is that about right? Thanks

You will find all the information that you need here. I suspect you you are talking about E&P leveling system. If you are talking about self levelling air syspension (for when you are driving) it will be even more expensive.
We have the E&P system on our 4500kg camper van. I was hoping that you would see it on the picture of it parked up at home, bit there is too much shadow I think.

and it is good.

Remember LB's. The purchase price of circa £5.5k is a one off payment for a secure, rock free, level van that can also be tipped to empty your waste tank fully, or jack it up if you need to change a wheel. All at the touch of a remote control pad. If and when you sell it, the (E&P in my case) dealer / fitters will remove it for you and fit it to your next van. Most commonly without modification. Allow £1000 for that service if and when you need it. Btw. SAP is just one of a number agents. They all know what they are doing, or they would not be E&P approved and trained agents. Mine was fitted in Somerset. A very good job done.

Hi, we've had two systems over the course of 6 years, the first on our Hymer B704 which was a E&P and the current system fitted to our Carthago is a MA-VE. Both systems do virtually the same functions and both cost us £4500 ish, the MA-VE we got a £500 discount on. If you want my honest opinion, the E&P is a better system in terms of usability, functionality and smooth operation. The MA-VE is quite severe in its operation especially well lowering. Hope this helps.
I've also been told by an installer that at the moment it is impossible to get Ma-Ve kit. Covid problems at their Italian factory apparently.

Pretty bizarre if this is being considered as a means to change a wheel.... what's wrong with carrying a suitable jack...and actually learning how to use it properly... and whilst on the subject carrying a spare wheel also... and avoiding the embarrassment of having to call a breakdown service to come out and rescue you simply because of a flat tyre...
🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄

I think they are a great idea,I’m just toooo mean to fork out the money. And knowing me,I’d still carry my plastic levelling ramps for when the system goes wrong. Sad,but true!!

Best thing you will ever buy for you MH, had self leveling on my caravan and first thing i had on my MH, done buy A&S air suspension in warrington Phil and Cath great people to deal with, tell them i sent you, was about 5K if my memory serves me right, had the comfort springs fitted on the front, air ride on the back, when in storage have it off the ground saves the tyres and no one can nick it without a crane to lift it.

Our local tyre place were "over the moon" when I offered to jack it up for them,

I called SAP of Doncaster to ask if there was a discount for motorhome fun members, and she told me they will be giving me a free footplate worth £150, whatever a footplate is

IIRC they are plastic mouldings that go under the jacks to increase the footprint area for softer ground.
Might be wrong.

If you ask for the discount before the negotiated price, how do know you’re getting any discount. Better to get a quote first then ask for the discount.

Not really an embarrassment- net any more. My last two new cars didn't come with spare tyres -it's quite common nowadays and MH's seem to not either. Also, I be the majority of drivers wouldn't have a clue how to change a wheel!!!

Also, if on main road or worse a dual carriage way/motorway changing a wheel on a car is not fun let alone a on a MH. Having said that - having had to wait twice in one of my cars for a breakdown truck I went and bought a spare. Unfortunately the other doesn't have any space for one.

It's something that fits on a steam train, IIRC; not much use unless your m/home runs on rails and delivers the night mail ... Ask if there's any chance of a red flag + a green flag and a whistle, so that the neighbours can stand 75 metres away, glance down at the fob watch and whistle and flag you away from Platform 1 down the East Coast line ... ;) :ROFLMAO:

Serious question (honest guv!). I’m struggling to believe that the foot area is large enough to prevent it sinking slowly into the ground. Obviously this is not a regular occurence or there would be rants on here about it,but have any of you self levelling enthusiasts ever had this sinking feeling!??? Thanks.

You have more area in contact with the ground with the flat feet on the jacks than you do with the contact area of a round tyre.

The jack feet are 9" in diameter, how much contact area do your tyre have with the ground, and I bet it's not 9" diameter. :giggle:

If it is very soft and I wanted the wheels in the air for a bit of self recovery I have some 12" square boards that I can put under the jack pads, as a straight answer to your question yes they might sink a bit but not a problem, for example we have been parked up for 8 days and when I moved the van there was a slight impression where the jacks had been.

You are already adding to your payload with the levelling system, west until you feel the weight of the footplates they are seriously weighty.

Rubbish, I weighed the footplate covers before I fitted mine and the 4 together weighed less than 2Kg, and yes you add to your payload with the self levelling system, but don't forget that you deduct from that the 8Kg for the jack and the 6Kg for the levelling ramps you no longer need.

I do not doubt your footplates weight -2kg, however, the one l have seen and turned down weighed considerably more and l have no knowledge of your set up of a Jack and Ramps in addition the OP made no mention of these.
l added a comment in the hope of assisting the OP and l don’t want you hiding behind a keyboard telling me my contribution is Rubbish.
