Good morning all Funsters,
We’re currently in rainy Morocco feeling a little dampened, and I was wondering, can someone please answer me this, Why does the law only allow us to spend 90 days (in180) in the Schengen area ?
Why aren’t we free to roam??

driving licence not accepted!!
years before brexit I was doing a witness statement f0r Guardia Civil & specifically asked whether my spanish driving licence was acceptable as ID for them or any other official organisation. Yes, perfectlt was the answer.
Hotels often won't accept driving licences as acceptable ID on registration
That is usually because they are required to either retain the passport for the first 24 hours & they also have top register the passport number & copies with the Policia national , or mossos in your case.

Perhaps we are all looking at this from our individual perspectives and that the terminology being used is different from case to case. I am a British national with a British passport living in France with full rights under the Withdrawal Agreement. I hold a Carte de Sejour Permanent which confers the right to live here, provided I behave myself, but is not an ID card; even though they took my finger prints and photograph. For anyone who has not seen an example it is a very secure credit card sized piece of plastic with an integral chip. The literature it came with said that it is only valid in conjunction with my passport. Travelling to the UK last March the French border guard got quite tetchy when I did not offer it with my passport. Returning to France the guards need to see it or they will stamp my passport. In practical terms when I visit Spain we cross the border without any intervention but we must carry our passports because they are not interested in my entitlement to be living somewhere else.

I also have a French driving licence which is physically very similar to the Carte de Sejour and a Carte Vitale which proves my entitlement to healthcare in France and contains basic information about me plus access to the portal into my digital records which are growing in real time.

In the fullness of time they may very well consolidate this information in one place but I doubt that with bother me!

As we've seen, I think it depends on the officer or the official. I got stopped & reported for illegal exercise during Spanish lockdown while on a bike going shopping and the Mossos officer was not impressed with my driving licence. He asked me why I had left home without valid ID - I just kept quiet because there's no point in arguing, but he didn't demand I produce anything else.
