This may have been mentioned and I have missed it, but apparently according to Those happy days, on YouTube he was rattling on that all motorhome parking has been banned along the long road in Scarborough from today, is this right and why haven't we heard more about it?

Scarborough Council have announced they do not want tourists in town spending their filthy money.
The long term plans is to force all the local shops, pubs and restaurants to close, so that the town is only used by the locals.
Their next target will be the furnished holiday lets.

Due to this rule, last week we drove through Scarbrough without stopping and went to Whitby where we spent several hundred pounds over 5 days.

It's been banned overnight since mid September along Marine Drive, also the Whitby to Sandsend road.

LV just goes on giving
this morning we had a deposit in the bank from them for £300 for airfares and expenses getting it back.I just can't praise them enough.

I thought Whitby banned MH’s overnight in the only town car park many years ago, has this been relaxed?
I heard you could park for small charge up by the abbey but not sure if that was temporary
No problem during the day, just no overnighting. Parking spaces suitable for motorhomes are on the north end of Marine Drive.
Must admit we did not try the only car park actually in town, but there is a perfectly good campsite on the other side of the river walking distance into the town.
Isn't it that you can park during the day but not overnight?
Personally I don't want them banning day time parking (Ive seen comments wanting vans also banned from the South Cliff area) as I visit my parents memorial bench and park on the esplanade for that. On most visits I patronise the Clock Café as that was a favourite of my parents in their later life.
When I visited earlier this year, I stayed on a site in Cayton and cycled into Scarborough via the south cliff and their bench. There were quite a few vans parked on the roads near the south cliff but its hard to tell if they were only stopping off or staying

I haven’t read it myself buy a friend who has overnighted there was telling me about the ban and now the council are looking at cancelling the ban. Perhaps a check on the latest news would be best by anyone who would use it.

We were in whitby/sandsend 2 weeks ago but in a car
I couldn't find any signs to tell you there was no overnighting on the seafront road into sandsend, there were 6 motorhomes there and a pop top camper when I arrived on a friday morning at 6am...some on ramps so definitely been there at least one night
I thought maybe I had heard the news wrong but obviously not
The parking payment machines had nothing informative on them either and I guess they will be covered over as usual at the end of the month when charges stop.

An update for you guys, it comes in 1st Nov. Overnight parking ban on marine drive and also cayton bay in scarb and the long parking area at sands end. Daytime parking is still allowed , free in winter.. they have now added a few roads on the south cliff around the clock cafe and a few streets on the north side around peasholm park. . Concerns were raised about Van's been parked elsewhere and the council have said that if photos are sent to them further streets could be included in the ban.
We often visit Whitby, Scarborough and have seen vans parked up overnight (camping) taking several bays, chairs and tables out, I understand that this type of behaviour lead to complaints and that Scarborough council have a "consultation".

It has been reconsidered and is still going ahead with extra streets added. The bulk of the complaints seem to be around open fires bbq,s and tents gazebos. The dumping of black waste on grass verdges etc and some with disabled badges taking up 3 spaces for weeks on end. Again a very small minority have caused these issues and led to a avalanche of complaints from an equally small minority.

to be honest it a shite hole of a place only had to go there when we had jay to see his mum.

I don't know as I have only parked there once, but wouldn't it have been better to put a biggish toll on it , say £15 a night surely that would deter most flts but still be handy for those that were just passing through, and also have brought some money in.

And if I recall right , everything is already there ,parking lines and machines so wouldn't have cost a penny to put it in action, could have put cameras in if they are not there already to check who was parking.
Seems a no-brainer to me.

You paid during the day summer period only, then completely free during the winter, so in summer people would turn up in the evening and leave early, and in winter spend longer there, unless you had a blue badge so certain individuals could still over three bays completely free.
Should have just made it a payment per hour, 24 hours a days, 365 days a year
We parked our car on marine drive earlier this year and saw what looked like the deposit from a toilet cassette, our dog nearly went in it
.Unfortunately if a small minority can’t behave and inflict their actions on others, then the majority of sensible people have restrictions place upon them.

Whitby has 4 campsites,
3 to the north of town on the outskirts, (30-40min walk)
and only one in town to the south (just to the south of the river) 5 min walking distance to the centre
Folly Garden is the only one in town and it is the smallest.
To be honest I don't know if you could just park there for the day,
I would guess it would depend on how full they were and how much you were prepared to pay !
The main big car park just to the south of the river does not allow motorhome, caravans etc to park (it has a couple of coach parking spaces)
Motorhomes can be parked at the Whitby Leisure centre car park at the top of the hill, it even has space for coaches.
(I did not see any signs about overnight parking, but I was not looking, so that does not mean they are not there!)
