Save money and winter somewhere warmer. Won't work for us!

The suppliers have the trump card, if you don't use it they just increase the standing charge. Mine is just 27p a day for gas only but this is about to change increasing by some 80%. So don't think that leaving an empty house will mean zero charges. It wont......
I don't know how common it is, but my Mum's house insurance says she must leave her thermostat at 15C when away!!

You could put those light switches in that you have to push and the light stays on for 10 seconds.

WiFi light bulbs and tell Alexa to turn the lights off at 10 pm.

Take the fuse out of the dishwasher and tumble dryer.

Charge them 50% of their wages as rent. Then charge them 1/3 rd of the electric and gas.

A friend of mine does this but without telling them puts it all in a savings account and will give it to them when they are ready to buy their 1st house.

We have a grand child living with us who is nocturnal.
So used all power and lights all night. Goes to bed at 6am up at 4pm.
When we we are away leaves everything switched on doesn’t clear up so after 4 or 5 weeks away I am under pressure to return home to ensure “ damage limitation “ 🙄🙄
we have tried hard to break their habit but so far even threats haven’t produced a change in habits.
🤐
My son inherited a girl which came with the wife to be, she's now 17, my son and his wife (her mother) can do nothing with the lazy good for nothing, My wife and I went down to my son's to help with housework, I took a photo of her bedroom chaos and clothes were dumped on the floor at least a foot high all over, she's a bloxxy nightmare

I recognise some of that 🫣

o yes, been there, done that.

Did you know internet access is a human right?

I thought I had successfully put access control on the router so that I could programme in allowed hours / blocked as decided by their mum. It was only when I could not log onto the router to change some settings that I found a school friend had found out how to recover a lost password on the router we then had, gained access to the router and turned off access control (and set a new password the little s***). Fortunately I could follow the same process to regain control.

It was during the subsequent discussion with their mum that the human right point was made.

by the way, I think all parents should encourage children to ensure they get into detention at school on a regular basis this winter.

Free child care and supervision in a warm environment - result!!!!!!!!!! >:):roflmto:

The thing about grandchildren is that you can return them to the parents.

If you were really clever. You’d have tied yourself into a 2 year deal last October that alone will literally save us thousands. We also get £400 towards it.
Hopefully prices will drop back down before next October
Like many others we had just started a 2 year deal but the supplier went bust. Obviously you are really clever as your supplier stayed above water.

Hallo all

I heard an amazing thing the other day from my girlfriends brother and sister in law when they where chatting to there 8 yr old daughter

They have told her from little that it's illegal to live at home past 18 and has warned her that she needs to move out just after her 18th birthday

She believes it's, and tells her uncle off all the time and worries that the police will call as he's still at home while at uni

All being well we will have 3 months away after Christmas but apart from one light on a timer everything else will be turned off including the heating.

Brave man! My House insurance stipulates when unoccupied heating stat needs to be set to 15 degrees!

Rule 1, never open the door from a teenagers room, rule 2 never give in to the urge to clean anything up after them, rule 3, lock certain things away, so when you want clean plates there is still some around, rule 4, keep smiling, one day they will be parents and have children, karma is a bitch😆😎🤷🏻‍♂️😆😆

Hmmm had 9 house sits since May, stayed mostly in properties valued between 1 to 3 Million, here and in mainland Europe, utility bills you say? What are those? 🤷🏻‍♂️😎😆,
Sorry have to shoot off, Hot Tub is waiting 😇😇😇😆😆😆

Definitely more luck than judgement. We never went with small suppliers. Been with Eon for a while and always had a reasonable deal. Was about to go on holiday and unusual for me did 2 years knowing when I get back I’ll have more time to look into it. The rest is history.
We have already discussed the following winter as that is when we will be hit and heading off to Spain has already been thought about. It could pay for itself. Hopefully this will all be back to normal before then

Have Nest installed and look at the forecast. Turn it on as required from anywhere. First time I’ve heard of that stipulation though very interesting

I charged them rent, and saved it for them. It paid the deposit on their first rened property with left overs fir furniture it also taught them to live within their means. They hated me at rhe time lol
But both good with money now, and homeowners.
I done exactly.this and never told them. Charged them 50 each week includes house money and a new mobile phone & contract every 2 years from since they started working.
Last year number 1 son was looking for a house with his girl and I dropped the 25k for the deposit I'd saved him for the past 10 years or so that he had been paying me "rent"..it went down very well as you can imagine.
Only issue now is that the cat is out the bag for number 2 and number 3 son..

Gets them a good start on the ladder I spose

With fuel bills heading where they are, for some it might work out cheaper to put their heating on a frost setting, get in the van and head off and find a bit of sun.
Though as me and Siân were discussing yesterday, this wouldn't work for us, as those kids we leave at home, without us here chasing them, would never bother to turn lights or heating off! The tumble dryer would be used on sunny windy days, and the diswasher would do a full cycle for one cereal bowl and spoon.
Par for course Jim

Has been given notice of eviction 🤭
Are we too soft to carry it through 🤷🏻 Time will tell🤣
Strength my friend it may be the only way. A friend of mine had to go farther with police eviction ssad to say we make them like that by not nipping it in the bud.
