SatNav

SomeoneElse ?
Have you got an sd card in it? If so, what size?
Yes I originally had the supplied 8GB card in the camera slot which it had said on a couple occasions was worn out. With a 64GB card the the system slot formatted for internal use.
The first guy suggested a only use a 32Gb card even through the manual says 64GB is OK.
Yesterday I replaced both cards with new 32GB extreme cards before making the third call. They made no difference. I also turned thr camera off before using Express. I can't think of anything else I can try so I'm totally in the hands of Garmin.

For our new MH we have got a TomTom Go pro 6250 which was on special price at Amazoom and it seems to be grand, so far.
However, there seems to be a preference for Garmin here so am I missing something negative about TT? Is my bargain not so much maps for life but potentially a faff for life?
Having never used a separate sat nav before as my cars have had them built in for years this is a new area for me. Before that we amazingly found our way around using only printed maps and road signs, not that the kids would believe us!!

Seems to me this will go on forever. Whatever one poster says others will come up with their version of a better or worse make or app. Through the years I have had most of the well known devices or apps and think its like the ads that promise to rid you of back pain, why are there so many if one alone really works.
Currently using Garmin device with TomtomGo on my smartphone as a backup but do I trust them?
The trouble mainly relates with most to the maps that are often a year or more out of date when you download them. I once bought Co-pilot that failed to show a by-pass that had been in use for a year (money back please)

I have the opposite problem with Co-Pilot: it wants to take me around a by-pass that hasn’t been built! Last year and this.

Can anyone with a Garmin have a look around Sablé-sur-Sarthe (France, WSW of Le Mans) and tell me if it thinks there’s a usable by-pass on the West and South side?

I’m about to try Sygic, but that also has this phantom by-pass (though at least you can report map errors). Here maps online show the by-pass as dashed, which I take to means it’s planned. There’s certainly nothing but fields at the moment.

I dislike the new version of Co-Pilot. I don’t like the interface, navigating to a specific place on the map appears impossible, no Aires as POIs, re-routes are terrible, no way to set max speed, no indication if a route has tolls, etc., etc. Initial routing seems good, though.

I use ViaMichelin to plan the route, then a SatNav or Memory-Map most of the time.

I’m tempted by a Garmin. Does anyone who uses BaseCamp to plan a route know if that routes with weight, height restrictions or show restrictions when planning a route?

Ta..

Used to have CoPilot Truck - very expensive at the tine but fell out with it when they changed the software.
Switched to Sygic Truck. Also very expensive - and absolutely USELESS. (See my posts elsewhere I. This pile of c@@p).

Niw back on CoPilot Truck PLUS have added a Pioneer unit with CarPlay so 8 ha e CoPilot on iPad and Google maps o. car play simultaneously.Interesting route variations from tine to tine and need to use common sense but this is a good combination.
The speed and speed limit warning on CoPilot very useful to avoid inadvertently getting a speeding ticket.

Given you only bought the unit in February and Garmin don't seem to be able to correct the issue remotely I would be looking to return the unit under warranty.

That may become an option.
At the moment Garmin are working on it. They have given me web access to send them large amounts of data. Overnight I sent them a complete copy of the satnav's internal memory.

Never used them but it does look interesting.
As an aside you can get the 780 from QVC for around £265 but better check it's the full spec version.
I did a bit of research and the Garmin Factory Outlet store is not an authorised dealer as stated on its website. So i'm not going ahead with them. Have gone for the QVC offer instead which still represents a big saving on the list price. So thanks!

Thanks for the feedback.(y)

I be had a snooper S7000 truck for 15 years I fitted the Camper chip which has done well for the last 8 years . Sadly it’s age us showing now and I have updated to the Ventura S6900 , 7 inch screen and much faster operation than its ageing predecessor ,
The lane positioning is very good on both and I have been well served by the old one for a lot of driving miles, the first one was used every day in the early years while I was still working. I have had a Garmin system previously but it was a lot more difficult to set up routes with. All the campsites and Aires are shown when navigating with the Snooper and I was lucky to find one as they are out of stock in most providers.
not the cheapest but I am happy with it.

I'd be interested to know if the lifetime maps update is included with the QVC offer, as it's not stated on their advert.

I have Floureon same guts different name as Xgody

Well I looked up the spec for that model on the Garmin website and it says it is.
Thanks Graham, I appreciate that Garmin say that on their site, but QVC doesn't mention it and the other Garmin they have for sale, the DriveSmart 65, specifically states it has lifetime map updates. I hope it does have the updates if it does it's a bargain but to me, it seems the discount they are offering has to have some draw back. As I said I'd be interested to know when you receive it if it comes with the lifetime updates, as if it does I'll be buying one if they have any left :giggle:

We bought a Garmin Camper 780. Works pretty well and I've had a lot of experience with different systems.

Got the 780 a few weeks ago. Excellent device. Contains several very useful databases of aires, MH service points, camp grounds, etc... Tons of POIs. Shows very clearly what to do at all times. Very readable screen in every light. Just works.

+1

I have an Aguri 720 with combined 9inch tablet and built in dash cam and can honestly recommend it.
UK and European mapping, lane assist and much more.
Worth a look and think Funsters get a discount direct from manufacturer.
Works on Android.

My time with Sygic started badly. After using the motorhome facilities in Mortagne-sur-Gironde, I started it up. It wanted to send me North along a dirt track. 😡

On encountering a Route Barrée, I first chose to use the ‘Avoid Now’ option for that stretch of road, but it ignored the request. So I started to find my own way until it sorted itself out, only to find it wanted to send me down some narrow roads and then a private road. Good job I’m good at reversing!

The final nail in the coffin is when I wanted fuel and noticed a petrol station coming up on the map. On passing the location it was clear the place had stopped serving fuel many years ago!

I wonder who sells Garmin France...?

My brother an experienced caravanner and MH'er recommended this so I ordered the 720 DVR De Luxe, Its a dashcam and sat nav and gets pre-programmed with weight and dimensions straight out of the box.
Fun3 code gets £50 discount although there's a standard £50 discount on the website on their website anyway

Where do you site the 720 on the dash or the screen?

IMHO Sygic is rubbish

It doesn’t matter who sells it, Garmin provide the lifetime maps for free.

Is that the one from QVC UKbandit? TIA Mark
Think they are referring to the link I gave to the Garmin 770 specs on the Garmin site and not the 780 on QVC.

Well I'll find out for sure, just ordered one and will report back once it arrives, figured they have a 60 day returns policy at the moment and a £5 off offer with code FIVE4U if you are a first time QVC shopper, that will cover the return postage cost. I'll report back once I know.

I understand there are options of a bracket screwed to the console or suckers on the screen or just simple non slip fabrics on the console for a less permanent portable solution. Passenger could always hold it!

I bought a 70 quid 5 inch tom tom from argos Jan 2018 its done me 2 years all round europe and only on 2 occasions have I encountered a problem with a low bridge.

Always found another route
