Satellite T.V. could soon be obsolete.

I rest my case but didn’t know they was launching it this soon.

Since the smallest TV set they are offering is 43”, we certainly won’t be having one that size in the van!

We have at last rolled into a new month with Vodafone so are back streaming again. It’s still very poor with buffering even though I reduced the picture quality and the sound is out of sync! Funny how we never get any buffering during the adverts! Not a long term solution as it stands at present!

I refuse to have a TV in my Motorhome,...Kills all conversation, Just walking around the campsite you can see whole families sat watching the tv and NOBODY is talking to eachother!...might just as well have stayed at home !..
I think that's a very ignorant opinion .
You don't know everyone's circumstances...
Perhaps they've had a full day of family activity... and are just chilling (together) for a couple of hours.

We just changed our van and it doesn’t even have a TV aerial, only a DAB one-previous owner rarely watched tv. So over to you guys-what are my options if we decide we would like tv, mainly in UK, France, and Spain + possibly Italy?
We had a satellite dish on our old Hymer but it was an early version and I had to tune it manually which was a bit of a pain but doable.

John
Your Hymer like all Hymers has TV aerial you need enable antenna 5v supply on your TV, to power the amplifier.

I tend to agree with the poster, I don’t think it’s an ignorant opinion. It’s just their opinion. I have a similar outlook re the TV. We certainly don’t need a TV to chill. In fact to us chilling is about as far from TV as you can get. Perhaps it’s more ignorant to not understand that there are still a few (a diminishing few) that don’t need TV in our lives.

The "ignorance" imo is to criticise everyone who watches a bit of TV of an evening.
It's also not about "need"... but perhaps preference.
Maybe, just maybe, for some it might be the only opportunity to watch a movie together, or a boxset, or even a bit of sport.
I'm not critical of those who don't watch TV, but I don't think it's right/fair to knock those who do.

I don’t understand how I could ever have “the preference” to watch TV over, well, anything. Reading, walking, going out for a drink or a meal. Taking the dog out. There’s always something I would have a preference to do over watching the TV.

I sort of have a foot in both camps we do watch some things on TV but not very often in the motorhome. I do think some just sit there no matter whats on and it's an opinion whether or not thats wasting what little time we all have on this earth. On the other hand you could say so is reading a book!. I do struggle a bit with the people who think it's a disaster if they're unable to get tv reception for a couple of weeks.

Have you tried manually selecting another network Robert? I'm not sure whether its been mentioned on this thread already but most devices give you a manual selection option.

One of the unfair elements of roaming is that a visitor has access to whichever network is strongest - unlike an actual customer.

A Sky Smart TV+

I really need some sort of accident to happen to my still great current telly ☹️
Would you really want to be an early adopter of Sky Glass?
I think I’d let it bed in and go through a couple of revision cycles before jumping on that band wagon, by which time your current great telly just may warrant an update.
Whilst I wonder where they are sourcing the panel from, I’m not curious enough to try to research it.

Where do you think :banghead: And will you be the only one doing the watching? We are seriously letting China get far too powerful.

TP Vision is an electronic manufacturing company that makes Philips TV sets.

It is a subsidiary of one of the world’s largest electronic manufacturers, TPV Technology, which is based in China. However, TP Vision is based in Amsterdam.

Sky test their new product on their staff before then asking some early adopter customers to try the products.
They end up with a working product.

If you’ve a working television and streaming solution, sure, let that age a bit &/or your subscriptions get close to ending but if you’re ready to upgrade either, go for it.

I got a tv two in my MoHo plus a big bugger projector screen with big speakers for outside use just to make someone moan and groan about someone watching tv.

So sad if peeps want to watch tv, golf the bloody birds well done them got nowt to do with anyone else.

Next they’ll be complaining about my barking dog and my loud genny.

Well it ain’t obsolete yet - and I know from personal experience.
Cannot watch either F1 or Golf on my satellite set up so go through a firestick.
My iPhone is recognized but cannot get a good enough signal to stream. However a small mifi unit does the trick - some of the time. So far in the UK only about 50% of the time does it work. A satellite dish gives me a really good quality image, apart from the initial outlay (which I agree is not insignificant) it costs nothing and it’s easy - no faffing about. So I don’t think you can be so polarized about which system you use.

I didn’t know that Lenny-there is no visible aerial on the roof apart from the DAB radio one-although that has a co-ax leading to a small outlet just by the habitation door? Is the tv aerial hidden in the roof?

john

Yes, on older models I think is in the over cab, newer ones have a small whip aerial on the roof.

It has been suggested that we get a Firestick???
Can someone please explain whether we could use a 'Now' stick? (Looks like a Firestick and it's presently stuck in the back of our 'inhouse' TV.)

I don't think you can get Prime on Now as they are owned by Sky, otherwise it should work.

Haven’t tried it but this article suggests there is a Prime app for Now TV

That is correct. AFAIK you cannot get a ‘NOW’ stick anymore, it’s shifted over to the Firestick in some kind of amalgamation or takeover.

That's two separate things there but combined you are right (y)
1) Roku discontinued the standalone Now TV box and I can't see other Sky Now TV hardware to buy as a new customer, but if you have old Now TV sticks they'd likely still work. Now TV's supported devices still list "NOW Smart Stick"

2) Sky & Amazon had agreed to host each others streaming services. :)

and you can now get apple tv through the fire stick as an app.

I don't want to start the watch tv/dont watch tv/never watch tv argument off again, but i will add that we watch a lot of tv at home or away - i love watching documentaries or history programmes and movies - i dont see the difference between that or using my Readly subscription on my Samsung tablet (on which i now have tv programming installed ) OR reading a book, going for a walk.

i think its unfair to criticise how a person chooses to relax, chill out etc if it itsnt inconveniencing anyone else.

we watch everything through a firestick and will be installing a satellite dish in the new year. which will save on data useage abroad
