I have an Oyster ll satelite system, I know it's old but to upgrade to Oyster V is circa £3-4k, should I spend that sort of money to upgrade or scrap the whole thing and buy a smart TV system ?

People with sat should look at the newer super low noise LNBs. I also think Oneweb LEOs will wipe the board, they use vpn access as they are orbiting apparently.
Go on Nick, enlighten us luddites please, as to what you are referring to. ;)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Sorry Jock, misunderstood the question.

The Oneweb satellite system is reputed to globally use the same block of IP addresses linked by a single private (network as they are low orbiting - Leo=low earth orbit) devices, so they share the same connection to the internet,

So far, that's in Telehouse East and Telegouse North, in Docklands, London

They will also be acting as gps beacons, as part of the UK answer to the EU Galileo system. Whether the gps (GNSS) can or will be linked remains to be seen, but the CPU processing overhead is huge, and the smart money is that they will just allow equal access to all - at home and abroad - in much the same way as prodicers largely gave in to region free DVD,

None of this is set in stone, but the smart money says wait a year - 18 months, I doubt it will be that long, as the ground control system is in place already, Eutelsat have partnered and whilst latency (delay) is higher, it is minimal, wont affect streaming, the sats are London controlled and reortedly a fraction of Starlink prices

What is it they say, about everyday being a school day? ;)

Thanks for that explanation Nick. (y)

I looked at an 85cm dish for more southern climes but have decided to stick with the jailbreak firestick and Euro VPN's. We don't pay roaming charges as the contract comes with zone B.

Hi all,

Too much for me to run through unfortunately right now but I'll have a look through the replies in a bit more detail when I get chance. In the meantime if anybody wants to speak to me directly then please drop me a PM or call the office on 01858575928 and I'll try to help and advise best I can.

Thanks to PP Bear for the tag.
