Hi. We are trying to decide on which sat nav to purchase. We have a autotrail hiline Imala 720 and plan to go to Europe this year. We are trying to decide between Tom Tom go expert 7, Tom Tom camper max 7 or a Garmin.

Can we have your advice please. There doesn’t seem to be a lot between them which is making it an even harder decision.,
Many thanks

Cheap as chips truck nav off ebay for me. 7 inch touchscreen, can enter dimensions etc. Less than £40 . And works worldwide. Come with sunshades etc

I just buy a new one every 12 or 18 months so you get the latest maps as I don't own a computer for updating.

Put the old ones in charity shop

Far better than the old tom-tom I had

Driving a 44 Tonner, I can honestly assure you it very often does make a difference, and it is that same "preventive thinking" which I apply to our large MH when route planning. (y)
Keeps me out of trouble, as do my levels of observation. ;)

Cheers,

Jock. :)
On a 44t vehicle, yes. On a 4t vehicle that's only a foot wider than many SUVs? Not so much.

I'm not saying it never makes a difference, but on the very rare occasion it does, preplanning covers you most of the time, and common sense (like reading road signs!) should catch the rest.

are you running that through the XGODY sat nav? if so, i would be interested in finding out more about it if its a lot better?
Sorry Dave, I've only just seen your post, quoting mine. :(

What we're you referring to when you asked, "are you running that through the Xgody"?

Mine is a 9" Mediatek unit, but like Bill's, it uses the same software.

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Garmin Camper 780, used for 2 years 20000 miles been to France, Spain, Belgian and Portugal with no problems. It tells you that the route is not possible when you select a location where there are weight restrictions and you are over weight, it also advises there is no alternative route, which we found to be correct.

But not for large vehicle route planning, however I do agree that Google Maps are a great up to date source of route info, ie, roadworks, delays, closures, etc. (y)

Cheers,

Jock. :)
We also run the Garmin Camper Nav in parallel with the vehicle and trailer dimensions in, bearing in mind its 9.1m plus the trailer. But, it doesn’t offer any warning of an unsuitable route. However, it is a great Km speedometer when abroad.
