Run to the sun….

Was having a chat with a friend yesterday about my rough route through moroc (roughly anti-clockwise) and realised Marrakesh is in the middle of it so checked it about on maps last night and saw that it’s 3-4 hrs away from here so tomorrow I’m going for it, I’ll whizz over there for a couple of days then come back to the coast to Essaouira and the continue down past agadir then onto taffaroute towards Merzouga and then back up…🤔

Anyone got any thoughts on that, if you’ve been here…?
Merzouga is a bit disney imv and a long drive from Tafraoute. Depends what you're looking for but once was enough for us. I've no idea what your time frame is but if its tight you do need to be a little careful how far east you get because snow can cut off the High Atlas and Rif mountain passes and its a long way to drive around. It is a very different part of Morocco though so well worth visiting.

From Tafraoute we will probably go to Zagora then Ait Benhaddou, then as long the Rif weather is looking good go to one of the gorges, then over to Azrou, Fes and possibly Chefchaouen.

From Oualidia I would recommend going to Essaouira, although not as easy to visit by motorhome these days so might need to think about staying outside and whatever method you use to get in and out.

Essaouira to Marrakech is very easy but watch out for speed traps. We ve stayed at The mosque parking and it was absolutely fine.
Ourika is an interesting place to visit from Marrakech, much of it can be seen from the roadside but the terrain away from the road is challenging. I would then go to Agadir area via Essaouira because I love the views from the road but it is easier to jump on the Peage.

It can indeed. But you can still camp in it 😜😜

Caught us by surprise.

That's roughly the route I went . You can see the desert if you head south from zagora to mhamed. I'm not sure if I'll go same route this year or not . Will depend on taffroute

Myself and my good lady visited that Souke when we were in Marrakesh, within 2mins of being there, and joing a crowd watching some dancers, I was chased by one of the dancers demanding money for watching

We moved in deeper, walked around a corner, and one of the locals thrust a snake in my face. Snakes are my biggest fear, hence the 100mph dash leaving the wife standing

Needless to say, we didnt bother with the Souke again!!!

Another thing I’ve noticed is no matter how much of an old scrap heap of a car is I’ve noticed that they all have good tyres, crap brands but good tread. I wonder if they would get done at all the road blocks if they had bald tyres…🤔

Probably each village casts their own tyres mate, recycle is the way forward

Or perhaps their roads kill the tyres off quicker than most areas , as in tyre damage.

A few from yesterday, during late afternoon they set up loads of pop up restaurants in the square and that’s where we had the seafood last night… didn’t get hassled as much as I thought we would and has a pleasant time haggling for some items we bought.. it was an overload of sights sounds and definitely smells… we had a great time..😎

Parked up behind the mosque 150d for the night, expensive but excellent location and 5 minutes into the heart to the action…

How much better are their toll roads than the non-toll ones?

I only did the first two days on toll, they're quiet and just like a normal dual carriageway…

The other roads vary, all tarmac so for but some are bumpy and there are some potholes, town there are silent and sometimes invisible sleeping policemen that can launch you…😆

This one….
